Rancho San Marcos is a beautiful course nestled in the Santa Ynez Mountains with some breathtaking views and awesome layout. A must play for any golfer we definitely love having this gem of a course close to home. The course is well maintained and the greens roll true. Highly recommend to all!

So much fun to golf here and a beautiful spot on the central California coast. The course is recovering since the drought and this year there are also lots of wild turkeys.

Course is in good shape. Fairways are green and rolling out. Greens are fast and smooth. The sand traps can use some work. Better get out there before it drys up! Greenskeeper.org has a $59 special with cart unlimited golf for June, must sign up.

This is my favorite golf course in Santa Barbara. It is quiet and the views are beautiful. There is always something to watch besides golf, just in case the game is not going well! Turkeys, deer, bobcats, and bird watchers love it for the variety of birds. The staff is excellent and always go out of their way to make your outing enjoyable.

The course has a beautiful, challenging layout. The practice facilities are top notch. The quality of the course varies with the seasons. Because of the availability of water the fairways can dry out and turn brown. Therefore, spring best time to play this course.

Customer service is outstanding and very friendly. Greens are excellent and tee boxes are very good. Fairways are seeing some greening but mostly dormant Bermuda. Still great to play.

Great course, especially when its green (winter and spring usually). Front is walkable, but prefer riding the back. Food is pretty good too, and they have great outdoor seating. Overall, a great spot!

Challenging course, especially from the tips, based on the distance. Front is walkable but advisable to pickup a cart at least for the back 9. The greens are fast and have some tricky undulations. Fairways were in really good shape given the dry weather through the summer. Always enjoy the setting; look forward to playing again.

While traveling from So Cal to the central coast for a golf trip on April 17, 2015 I saw the course from the highway and it looked nice! I turned around and went back to play a few holes. At this time it was about 6:30 PM. From experience let me say, If you want to enjoy this golf course in the best possible way I suggest you drive by, say oh, that looks nice and keep driving! When I arrived at the clubhouse I was greeted by a young man that had the demeanor regarding the course more along the lines one may expect from a counter person at Augusta National. I asked what itd cost to get in a few holes (at this point its nearly 7:00 PM). The charming (not) youngster poked around on the computer screen for a minute or so, as if it was quite an epic chore to figure out an early evening few hole rate, then said how about $51.00. I was excited! $51.00 to play a few holes of a completely vacant golf course in the middle of nowhere....it must be spectacular! From my hour long golf experience let me say.....if you happen to be a horticulturist thats infatuated with weed strains or the best methods to poorly maintain all forms of landscaping....especially grass, youll think $51.00 for a few holes is a decent deal. If youre a fan of bare dirt this place is a good deal as well. However.....if you happen to be an individual thats absolutely bonkers in love with gophers your going to be compelled to give the wonderful fella in the clubhouse a several thousand dollar tip after your hour on the course! If, though, your goal is to enjoy an hour of golf(ish) activity you may be better off to put on a collared shirt, pocket your $51.00 and just go hit a few balls around in Mojave desert.Malcom

This would be the finest course in Afghanistan, which it sometimes feels like youre visiting when out in the rugged Santa Ynez Valley, but worth the drive to its isolated location. Challenging holes, occasionally rough and dry terrain, but a pleasant experience overall.

Rancho San Marcos Golf Course rated 4-1/2 stars: What Santa Barbara may lack in quantity of golf courses, it certainly makes up for in quality. Rancho San Marcos is another gem. There is no housing to be seen on or from the course, although a few historic items are occasionally in evidence; namely a few preserved 19th century adobe structures and the route of the San Marcos Stagecoach trail (in use until 1901), which runs alongside the par-4 17th.

Excellent Course behind the coastal mountains. No wind. Very helpful personnel, we had a really good day of golf. Due to a draught very often thin lies but regardless of that in really good condition. Offers stunning views and provides fun to play for all level of golfers. 15 is really tough, 16 a long par 3, 17 is ok and 18 a really finisher! Beautiful tee shot 50 feet downhill to the fairway! Youll like it!

Visiting from Texas .. played with my son ... yes the fairways are a tad dry but to be expected given the lack of water .. however, great layout ... difficult course but a lot of fun to play. Reminds me of Apple Mountain (course in Camino, Calif .. just north of Placerville). Staff was very friendly .. watch out for the black birds .. they are aggressive little devils that steal your food from your cart. A must play if you are visiting Santa Barbara..

The fairways are brown. There is no grass and they still charge to play here? Only the greens and tee boxes are green. I understand we are in a drought but at least charge low fees to play.
