Really nice beach. Make sure to go when its not high tide. The view is beautiful and there are tons of lovely little beach pebbles. At low tide, anemone are stuck to the rocks all over the shoreline. Wonderful!
A good walking beach when tide is not very high, especially around summer. Went looking for tide pools and other beaches such as Devereaux point might be better instead.
Definitely not a thousand steps to get down and back up! Great to see sunsets from the bottom. Note that the steps can get extremely wet therefore wear good shoes. Not a lot of parking at the front of the steps, but If you are able to find neighborhood parking, thats the way to go. The beach is very narrow, so dont expect spread out if you have children. Actually not a very good beach for kids.
A cool stairway down to the beach, and only about 60 steps or less. The top of the stairs are at the end of a dead end street where the cliff begins. I would recommend parking at Shoreline Park and walking the one to two blocks down to the dead end street and stairs. The stairs have runoff water running down them about half way down from either a home or street drainage. This runoff water has made the stairs extremely slick and covered in water and algae so be careful if going all the way down to the beach. Since the beach is secluded it was fairly empty when I visited during the middle of the day on a Wednesday, however it was nothing special just a peaceful beach with a steep cliff side.
It probably shouls be called 200 steps beach. Easy walk even with kids or baby. Not stiff at all. Nothing special about it except not a lot of people there. If you wanna get some tan without the crowd, this is a good place to go.
Steps down to a narrow beach along scenic bluffs. Popular for the drivable kelp bed. Limited parking.
Its not 1000 stairs, stairs are like around 150 and they are wet and slippery. The stairs lead to a beach. On one side you have steep rocks and one side the ocean, the beach isnt big but its pretty.
About a 170 steps. Ha, but the beach is relaxing. It was basically empty!
I walked down those steps and back up. I was dying to finish. It was a big workout. Took a walk around the area in 2 hours!
Walked along the coastline from Arroyo Burro Beach to walk back up to the community through the 1000 steps but it really is not very daunting and far less than 1000 steps up or down. Only took maybe a couple minutes and was relatively secluded along the up/down path although there were many beach goers on the beach for this July 4th weekend.
This place was okay to visit because the 1000 Steps Beach title is actually hugely deceiving. My partner is disabled and still urged us to go, and as we looked down the daunting first hundred steps she still wanted to dive in. As we walked down the first set of steps, I looked back and counted them. 20 steps. Using rough estimation skills, when we approached the landing halfway down and we could easily see the beach I counted only a little more than 220 steps from the road above. We were quite pleased and happy the steps were wide to accommodate her cane just fine and NOT in fact 1000 steps as described; however, when we approached the end of the staircase we could not make it onto the beach below. The stairs hover at least a foot and a half from the top of a round rock placed just underneath. This meant it was too dangerous of a drop for her to attempt to set foot on the beach after having climbed down these hundreds of stairs. The sadder part was she had to climb back up without having gotten onto the beach.
Went during sunset, while we could not see it very well, the beach was so peaceful and the sky was beautiful.
I have been to a lot of beaches everywhere in California, but this is hands down the most gorgeous beach I have ever been to. Definitely coming back, would recommend.
A nice hidden beach not to far from the main downtown area. Finding the steps down to the beach is not as hard as the trek down as the steps are in bad shape. Not recommended for people with difficulty walking. Make sure to look at the tide tables before heading out to make sure the tide is low or youll find your trip in vain as the beach disappears at high tide. Many little nooks and crannies to hide in if your interested in some privacy. Can get crowded during low tides on the weekends.
Great place for walking and beach running. Really pretty cliffs on one side and beautiful waters on the other
What a great beach for walking, and walking the dog. Some interesting things to see along the cliff base too. If we lived closer, this would be one of my go to spots!
Beach isnt clean and almost impossible to swim, but very beautiful view.
I definitely a very nice beach. Its just not 1000 steps. More like two hundred and something. Still, that doesnt take away its coolness and Beauty.
Lovely walk on the beach. Enough sand, rocks, and ocean to create a lasting memory
Beautiful and amazing views, but quite steep and slippery to get down. The waves literally splash onto the bottom of the steps. The time we went were quite high tide. Because of the marsh environment, there were growth of algae on the steps which can make it quite slippery and dangerous to get down. Lots of growth ofFlying bugs or mosquitoes?? We saw professional photographers taking family pictures at the small sliver of beach area at the bottom.
What Can I SayIt took my Breathe AwayThe Steps for me was Awesome
$#$#nice view great exercice
One of the few places that has beach access from the street to the cliff down to the water.
Its really just a beach access. The beach was nice. On a Sunday afternoon, we had the place to ourselves.
Only 149 steps.. leading to a nice beach. The stairs are full of mud so it is pretty dangerous.
My kids love here, just be careful, have many lichen on the steps.
Great spot but the stairs get a little slippery at night
Pritty cool. Stop by. Its only 149 steps btw... lol
The only issue its the packing besides that... I love it.
Parking is very limited but a nice view n work out if your looking for one
This is a great place for a beach walk. My wife and I went here the other day and it was very pleasant, there were people but it wasnt overly crowded. There were many dogs playing around. Just a warning, the bottom few steps are warn away so the last one is a bit of a doosy.
Great public access to beach, not very crowded. Great place to walk on the beach with dogs on leashes.
Sand fleas are awful, but the beach is beautiful
Great secluded beach, very pleasant walk there. Will visit every time I go to SB. Other reviewer mentioned possible petroleum from an oil spill - unlikely - this area (SB Channel and Carpentaria) is known for natural tar seepage and Native Americans used to come to this region to harvest tar. However, even considering this fact, the beach is incredibly clean and the water is very clean as well. Not dirty whatsoever.
A not so well known hide-a-way. Perfect for visitors new to the area
Awesome beach with easy access and very simple to get too..
It is a very nice clean beach. Get some good exercise every time you go there too.
1000? More like 100 steps... Im from SoCal so access to beaches like this is normal. Puts you at the bottom of a shallow cliff side. Be careful at the bottom of the steps when the tide is high.
150 steps. I don’t know why they named it 1000. Beach is a bit dirty and a lot of kelp in the water
My friend Merrilees favorite beach. We had a candle light vigil for her here
Beautiful sunset, did not go down to the beach but great views from the street just next to the stairs
Note. Only 125 steps not one thousand
Awesome place to view the waves at! Very relaxing and beautiful.
The beach is good to walk and not many people.
Last night
A hidden gem on the Santa Barbara coast. Great for a jog, stroll, or to take your dog. Watch out for high tide. You may not see the beach
Super interesting place to check out for sure
More like less than 200 steps but still amazing. 4 stars for false advertising
The beach is Rocky and its not a 1000 steps for real. But it was an interesting find
Nice steps but there were only 145 and not 1,000
Santa Barbara Best kept secret!
Thankfully it was way less than a thousand steps
Beautiful at low tide!
Beautiful beach scenery. The best thing is that not as crowded as the beach near downtown. However, watch out for the high tide.BTW, the steps need some reconstruction.
Great beach for the pups.
Not a thousand Steps and very empty.
Not really 1000 steps.... It feels like it but maybe just around 100-200 steps. When parking be considerate to other visitors and dont be the ass that will take 2 spots.
Its a nice spot but be safe when going on the stairs as its slippery.
Nice secluded beach not many tourists.
A fabulous little get away for peace and serenity! Check the tide. Definitely at low tide. You feel like you own the world!!!
Well well well what can i say but there 149 steps and this place is perfection!!!
Cool view but dirty
Access to the beautiful Santa Barbara beaches . The staircase is very slippery and broken in many sections, but you can’t beat the beautiful views below.
Awesome
Awesome views.
Beautiful, quiet beach....
Very beautiful and a nice place for a romantic walk
Barely anyone there and it was a Saturday afternoon. As someone from LA, that is truly a rare and welcome sight.
Nice walk, but definitely less than 1000 steps. Staircase is in terrible shape, steps can be wet and slippery. Leads to a secluded hidden beach.
Locals are familiar with this stretch of shoreline Beach, it is beautiful and usually not crowded with interesting geological rock formations the length of the beach. Be aware that there is a long walk down steep steps to get to the beach, this the name 1000 step Beach. Well worth the trek.
Dont be fooled by the title - go down only 150 steps and enjoy a beach that is beautiful enough to be worth it on a rainy day also !
This is a great feature of Shoreline Park, but the steps are unfortunately in terrible shape: wet and slippery from runoff and algae or moss, dangerous at the bottom... The city parks department had a plan to repair this, but the historical preservation folks said no - you must protect the historical integrity of this place. Absurd.
Very private! Very beautiful
We counted 148 steps. Just saying.
Great place to see sun sets and experience nature
Nice
Nice beach for a pit stop. No parking for the beach itself. But residential parking near by.
It used to be a natural path, an old local reminiced. Today, water seepage, moss and algae halfway down the weathered concrete stairway creviced between folded sandstone and shale cliffs, offers the extra, human touch.
Cute secluded beach with cliffs, totally empty when we visited! The steps are slippery so be extra careful on the last part. It seems to be accessible only on low tide.
Gorgeous beach, not too crowded, cool tide pools
Had a beautiful 2 mile walk, along the beach, with my husband. Luckily! he knew that you should wash your sandal afterwards. Sadly there is tar in the sand! :-(
Thank you kanye very epic
A must-go if u visit SB
Nice escape, actually 150 steps
Magical views. Seclusion. Lost history. Stones... Nuff said.
When its not washed out. Enjoy the hike.
Beautiful and scenic, incredible place to take pictures and a nice small hike if you wanted
I was expecting more steps. Not really 1000
Hidden jem, for locals yo get to the beach during low tide
