Pictures arent allowed here. This temple is listed as one of the oldest Taoist/ Buddhist temples in the US. This temple has been here since the 1800s and was meant for new Asian immigrants to find some footing and reconnecting with their homeland. This temple is located at the very top of the inside of a building. Youll have to climb up 4 flights of stairs to reach. Make sure to make donations to light incense inside.
Such a great experience and Susana is so nice. Definitely recommend coming by and getting your fortune read
Worth a visit whilst in Chinatown. Our tour guide from walks Isabella made it easier to follow
Very good visit, as a tourist. The flags on the ceiling make the temple beautiful. The oracle reading was interesting and useful.
Is a good place. Is in the 4rt floor in a building and you can take pictures of the temple. It has a good view of San Francisco. And you can see almost chana towns.
First Taoist Temple in San Fransisco that can be found at Chinatown.
Tiny hole-in-the-wall temple in Chinatown. Easy to miss the entrance and youll feel like youre entering someones apartment but its worth the hike up 3 flights of stairs.Great view up to Coit Tower from the balcony and friendly ladies who will show you around if you show interest. No photos allowed inside.
Great views. Get your fortune read!
The oldest Chinese Temple in San Francisco. An exhibit at the rich Chinese heritage in Chinatown. Family friendly. 5 minute walk from the Fortune Cookie Factory.
How do you rate an experience of culture, intense and beliefs. Great view from 3rd floor.
Cheap stuff. You get what you pay for, but the kids loved it.
Its located at 4tg floor. Its easy to miss it. Usually the temple entrance is at 1st floor.
Nice enjoyable building in the heart of Chinatown.
A couple of things to keep in mind, if you plan on dropping by as part of your tour of Chinatown. First, it is a functioning, neighborhood, buddhist temple; It is not primarily a tourist attraction. The temple seems to be cool with tourists, but many of the people there are simply local people going about their daily lives. (If you are a christian, imagine going to a church where random people off the street walk in and out of your services to look around at the church and you.) Second, the temple is in the uppermost apartment in a four-story apartment building. You have to walk up four flights of stairs to get there and when you get there, it is tiny, probably smaller than you had expected. But it is beautiful and worth dropping by to see and they will even help you interpret your fortune if they have time.
Just a curious place in Chinatown (the oldest temple in SF). Photos not allowed inside.
Very nice place to visit!
Good place to visit to see a different culture.
History from before the 1906 quake.
Went there as part of Chriss Foodie Adventure food tour of China town. He gave is some history and then the lady inside gave us some more history. I wont spoil it for you. Definitely worth going. Make a small donation and experience how to get your fortune told! Pray if you want.
