Grew up there in 50s and 60s and although baptized a Catholic never went there frequently. Ive become a Mytholic throughout my life, but never a non-believer in the Mysteries of Life, and this edifice has and yet still evokes something of those Mysteries to myself. The architecture is splendid, and it was only recently I ever noticed the statue of St. Paul (actually Saul)above the entrance-way.
Beautiful classic church. Needs additional lighting on dark/gloomy days. Also needs another restroom; only one stall restroom for both men and women.
Beautiful Catholic Church, very Gothic looking. This is the Church the Movie Sister Act starring Whoopi Goldberg was filmed in.
Huge church...sister act was filmed there!it seems the Church st and Castro crowds are focused more on dogs, promiscuity, booze, coffee, gay rights and mentally unstable transgendersthen worshipping the Lord God......very little patrons in attendance
Beautiful church with a warm and welcoming congregation. I started going every now and then with my wife and I was surprised that I was welcomed and no one even asked if I was a Catholic. I enjoyed the positive energy at Mass, so I began going more often. After 7 years I asked about becoming a Catholic and I completed their RCIA program to do so. Visitors come for the free coffee and donuts after 9:15 Mass, or just to see the church where Sister Act was filmed. Many return for the sense of community that I found.
Very enjoyable visit over Easter week. Will return on my next visit from Ireland
Its a beautiful area and the church.
Beautiful Church! I have been going here for over a year and love, love every minute of it. I have met wonderful people and decided to stay at St. Paul permanently, Left my old Parish.
I grew up there. The latin community did get a lot smaller tho. Theyve basically have gotten pushed out to the Eastbay
The church from Sister Act, one of my favorite movies.
Beautiful old traditional church!
2005 my husband and I where on vacation in san francisco. We stopped by the church because we were desperately trying to have our first baby and nothing was working. Well we went inside the church and it was late. The priest came out of no where and when my husband told him the story he made a special blessing and he was gone. Well a year later we where blessed with a baby girl. We where so tired that night that we could no remember his name. And we never got a chance to say thank you he heard your blessings.
My local parish church. Great pastor and congregation. Everything a Catholic may need!
Great experience magnified by great movie.
This is next to Heaven. The people are super friendly, welcomes you with warm and loving smiles. The Parking is great too. I just love it! Fr. Farana, a great priest, his homily helps my children come to church all the time. They look forward to his Homily. We found out the 9:15 Mass have Coffee & Donuts, drinks for the little kiddies, mingled with new and old parishioners, its a wonderful place to share stories with others. I am really happy I joined this Parish. My children attend CCD classes here and is the best place to bring your children for religions classes. I can only say the best place for families and their children. The CCD teachers, are the best. Dorothy Vigna, Director, she is the best. You dont worry about anything else. St. Paul you are the best Parish in SF. My whole family loves you! Look forward to next CCD class in September 2014 my kids loves you.
