Many trails to explore and tons of great staircases for exercise. There’s tennis courts (2), a playground, and what seems to be a defunct off leash dog run. Great views from the top and an open green space to setup a blanket on nice days.
This park is beautiful but don’t expect breathtaking views or handicap accessibility. The city does not maintain this park very well and fun note, the trees here blocking the view were planted by the city! So it looks nice and stuff but, in reality, this park is human made. Enjoy!
One of my favorite spots in the city. The main viewpoint takes a bit of uphill work to get to. There are multiple paths up and down. 2 tennis courts, 1 playground, and a very rewarding panoramic view from Golden Gate Bridge to mid-market. Its not as popular as the small hills in Golden Gate Park or Alamo Square. Theres a picnic area with another climb from this viewpoint of the city where a few parties can hang out (while complying to social distancing). You can really see the fog rolling in and feel the breeze if you stand or sit for too long, so remember to bring a jacket, as this is a prime example of SF weather. I mainly enjoy the climb for the exercise.
This park is a welcome surprise in the middle of the city. If youre willing to make the steep uphill climb, youll be rewarded by being surrounded in nature and feeling a world away. Then you can reward yourself with a snack in the Haight or Duboce Triangle as you head down.
Lovely park with lots of great trails to run and walk on. There are plenty of stairs to climb to the buena vistas. Great place for dogs and kids on leashes. Yes keep your small kids on a leash the paths are steep in some places and it’s a high fall! There is a playground for small kids but closed now due to COVID-19.There are parts of the paths that are paved and stroller accessible. Plenty of space to social distance and have a nice stroll. The neighborhood around is beautiful with a mix of modern and Victorian homes. Be sure to curb your dog if you’re bringing them. Have fun!
Beautiful nighttime views. Amazing vintage housing. Very dark tho. They have bathrooms but idk if theyre open.
Nice urban hike to this park through the castro from soma. Great views of the city from the top.
Great views from the top, lots of trails, varied topography. In a wonderful neighborhood with friendly neighbors
The times I have up there are great its crusty at the top and theres alot of guys there practically like all night
Love this place...butt kicking climb right in the city, makes for a great 40 minute bike ride that stuffs in some workout even in the short time
Be aware of large coyotes in this park do not bring your dog! Coyotes here are not afraid of humans.
DO NOT BRING DOGS. COYOTES ARE NOT AFRAID. Beautiful park and great walk, but we had a very scary experience with our small dog. We had him on a leash and all of a sudden there was a coyote 10 feet from us. We immediately picked him up and walked toward about 10 people on the grass for protection. The coyote followed us and stalked us. We stopped in the middle of the grass surrounded by people and the coyote stayed 10 feet away staring at us and cornered us so we couldn’t get out of the area. A man ran at it to scare it away and it backed up slightly but wasn’t afraid. We definitely think if we didn’t act quickly he would have grabbed our dog from off the leash or even could have grabbed him from our hands since he was so used to humans. I grew up on 5 acres with coyote sitings weekly so I am used to them and I have NEVER seen one get so close to humans.
Steep climb up to a beautiful panoramic view of the SF Bay,including the GGBridge.
Serene bliss. Nice place to walk and enjoy city views. Look up climb before you go.
A wonderful view of the city from here . Such an apt name. Hikes are great. It would have been nice if they had made available information about the trees.
Youll love this park if you like vertical adventures! Its relatively wild and unmanicured compared to most urban parks - a plus in my book!
It was difficult to enjoy for it was dark but a terrific place to let the dogs romp.
I come here just to meditate and get back into nature. This place is a great place to go if you want a major workout.
As a young man in 1988 I would go to golden gate park and play pick up soccer games with whoever was there. One weekend it could be Europeans and the next week I playing with south Americans in jeans. This is a very relaxed park. Fond memories.
Beautiful historic party with lots of birds. Many people walk their dogs here but I do not recommend it as there are a pack of Cyotes that live in the park and gave attacked dogs there. So please be weary and ALWAYS keep your dog on a leash!
Great place to work out! Beautiful, fresh, close to shops and restaurants, I fully recommend a morning run with a friend!
Everytime I go theres another God dang ky-yot walkin around
Quiet park. The park is well maintained with nice walking trails and great views of the city.
Just stopped for a few minutes to enjoy the shade, its a beautiful place
Awesome dog park! Rad views of the city!
Great little park to walk around or have a picnic.
Peaceful. Beautiful. A great place to hang out with friends and kids. Has water fountains and public restroom. Wonderful view of the city.
Lots of mosquitos. Bring bug spray. Otherwise a nice place to walk around and maybe run into some adventuring men.
Still love this park. Great place to hike about and the rangers arent v present ;)
Great park if you are into hiking. I live right across the street. No picnic tables which would be a plus. The trails are well maintained, bit it needs a set of restrooms. Dog friendly, and at the West side of the park is the kids play around. Remember every adult must be accompanied by a kid.
Bring your water, walking shoes and camera! My legs feel like jelly but it was worth it. Nice view of SF
I absolutely enjoy attending this park. It is magnificent. I love hiking around the trails. Bring a blanket if you are having a picnic, there are no tables. I would give it five stars if there were not gang members hanging around.
Terrible views. Packs of hyenas roaming around.
Very nice view i would return to that place for sure..
Pleasant atmosphere, very tranquil, one of the best scenic views of the citys most intriguing buildings, bridges and Colosseum. While escaping s.f. crowded sidewalks, streets and malls. Flee the polution which resides in the city and hike through the trees and walk along dirt paths.
Great place for morning walks.
Beautiful park for walking and jogging in the middle of San Francisco. Gorgeous views of the city and bay. A must visit...
Great views. Good workout
Nice park to take a walk with shaded paths. Well maintained as most parks in SF are.
Love this place....Loved it more when it was just a gay mans park even more....
Because it isnt cruszy anymore like it used to! Lol
Really great place at every day. With fog in the trees the park looks mysterious and is it sunny, you can hear all the birds around you.
Lovely spot for a pic5 overlooking the city
Nice place to relax and exercise
Stay away from this park, especially tourists.Indeed, stay away.
Amazing like always
Stunning, still my favorite park in SF
Great views at sunset. Great place for a pigment.
Really really nice park. It is a large park with plenty of trees, trails, hills, and beautiful sights.Would be a 5 star park if it wasnt full of homeless hippie punk kids
History this park has is incredibleEspecially the grAve stone aqueducts and the local coyote
Ive been going to this park off and on for years. Its a nice park but has a reputation for nighttime activities that makes me avoid it when the sun starts to wane. Last time I was there there was a portable bathroom set up out by the Haight street entrance. I think it was one of the pit stop bathrooms.
If you think its time to get a gym membership, look no further. Hike up and down around this mountain of a park, your calves and thighs will vurn; your lungs will exhaust themselves until cleaned out on the crisp cool air. Homeless have taken up camp, though camouflaged well enough that youll surprise yourself when you discover its right there. No harm no foul, nestled in the high rent district just south of the Haight.
I can see Buena Vista Heights and the treetops of the park from my window. I dont spend as much time there as I should, but its surprisingly big, with paths going every which way. A very quiet, peaceful place for a walk or a sit on a bench.
Beautiful view of the city from the park summit. Scenic walks.
It is literally in the name. Just go! Stretch, take your time, and the payoff is totally worth the surely well deserved exercise! Plus you are at the foot of one of the nicest retail walks in town.
One of the best city parks in a city. Compact, but luxurious, with plenty opportunity to hike and enjoy the view from above. Inumerous birds create a unique musicality to this park and the eucalyptus trees keep the air fresh and perky.
I was planning on going to Golden Gate Park for my weekend dose of nature and stumbled upon Buena Vista Park. It felt like stepping into a different world. The park is situated on a hill and there are quite a few trails and not very crowded on a Sunday. Definitely a hidden gem!
Great park great views
Very cool historic park wirh amazing views
Beautiful park.
The oldest park in town, with a unique and almost magical atmosphere, be it for the old growth trees that tower over its steep slopes, or the views over the city and the bay you can glimpse at through the vegetation. Recent habitat restoration efforts, still ongoing, have visibly improved the environment, contributing to an even more pleasant visit. On top of that, at least one coyote has taken residence in recent times. Here are a few pictures of the well-fed, gorgeous predator taken just a few feet from the edge of the park, looking from the corner of Buena Vista Ave and Upper Terrace, just about half an hour before sunset, on March 28.
Fantastic place to escape the city,0!
A fantastic park easy to miss just south of the famous San Francisco Panhandle. There is a dog path, spectacular views of the city, and playground. A great vacation stop if in the neighborhood.
Dark at night but beautiful during the day!
Great at dusk and dawn.
Best to go after dark for a fun time.
Great little park. Spent some time here with the dogs, and really enjoyed the afternoon. You can also get some pretty good views of the city when you near the top. These two guys loved the adventure!
We discovered this park a by pure hasard as we were walking through the city...a great view awaits you at some point a beautiful forest is there as well. The view is one for the eye and not for the cameras ( I do some photo and a big tree blocks the view on the golden bridge ) but the park is still worth it.A good mix of nature in the middle of the city .
Beautiful views! Fun day
I love this park. It is steep so be prepared for that if you want to walk to the top but it’s totally worth worth it. Fantastic views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the city in general. Usually not too crowded once you get into the park and away from the Haight street entrance. There are a lot of random staircases to explore. Just watch out for the coyotes
Good for hill climbing on paved paths. Not may view spots.
A little bit of California brush in the middle of the city. Peaceful during the day
Hike to the top for a beautiful secluded hideaway. Views are partially blocked by trees which also help provide a peaceful quiet space.
Cool breeze of air and the view is also good
Gorgeous courts with epic views.
Beautiful and a great work out
This is a beautiful park with lots of stairs and inclined paths but with exceptional views, as its name suggests. It also has plentiful blackberry bushes - I have no idea whether any pesticides etc are used, so I am not recommending eating any ripe blackberries that happen to fall into your hand, especially without washing them. However, at the start of July, the berries were not quite ripe but still tasted 1,000% better than store bought ones. Or so I heard. :-)
Beautiful park and only gets better the higher you get up the mountain. A park with plenty of views, tennis courts, playground area, plenty of hiking, as well as areas to picnic. Beautiful park that is spread out.
Walking this park and all of its steep paths is a workout for your legs, if you need the workout then its a good thing. But if you are there for a casual stroll it gets annoying; every turn of the path reveals either more steps to climb or a steep uphill climb. But when you reach the top there is a small grass area with beautiful views of the city and the Golden Gate Bridge (or the fog depending on the weather).
Nice view from all directions, live been amongst the wild, yes lots of wild like coyotes, they will walk with you like their your pet but dont get too friendly with them remember they are still wild.
Great hiking trails that lead to a beautiful view! About 500 ft in elevation starting on paved roads that then lead to dirt trails, where good shoes and bring some water and a snack :)
Nice place to have lunch, yoga, or even catch some rays
An amazing nature oasis unbothered in the middle of the city!
Fantastic view over the city. Nice trails and benches everywhere
Great vantage point!
Gorgeous views. Nice hike. Good exercise.
