I highly recommend visiting Presidio Park when in the Old Town area of San Diego. This park offers many places to have a nice picnic, read, or enjoy a hike. As a bonus there are numerous points atop the hill that offer vistas of the city. Not only are there nice views but there is also a rich history with Spanish influence. Along the top of the hill there are original sections of wall which surrounded the mission. As a cherry on top there is a place within the park known for urban legends call the Witches Tower. There are numerous reasons to visit and something for everyone.
This park is amazing. It is a historical site with a museum. However, be aware that there are a lot of homeless people. If you are worried about safety because you have kids or you care otherwise, you will have an unpleasant feeling which you will fight hard to ignore, but is that even a good thing?I wish they had a place to go. We pay such high taxes and can’t even go to the local parks in peace. There are very few homeless shelters around.
Alcohol is allowed in this park, but glass is not, so plan accordingly. Bring cans of your favorite local craft beer to enjoy, but leave the hard seltzer at home: that stuff is garbage and not worth putting in your mouth, let alone bringing to a park.Saw an owl here the last time I visited Presidio, so that was cool. You probably wont be so lucky, but you cant win if you dont play, so might as well take a chance.
Amazing view of the city and the love of my life. Everything seemed to sparkle more while in the park
At the top of a hill overlooking surrounding San Diegos Old Town. Its BEAUTIFUL with trails, historic markers, grill sites, picnic tables and large expanses of lush green turf shaded under old growth trees...at a 45 degree angle! Quaint place for a getaway day.
Love this park. Beautiful views, nestled in a super cute neighborhood with lots of open space with patches of lush green trees.
Had a very lovely picnic here! Restrooms were decent and had soap (what more could you ask for at this point?). Late afternoons are shady and lovely, not too crowded. Drinking is allowed here!!
Its a beautiful place. There was a lot of paraphernalia from homeless people that had been there, but the lady running the museum cleaned up the area before she opened things up. I was nervous the museum wouldnt be opening, but she was just cleaning up first. Great views and great presentation of history, not leaving out how much the success of the Europeans depended on the Kumeyay Indians. Oh, its not very handicap accessible. The stairs wore me out. I couldnt walk by the time we were finished.
Got fast food took my mom for lunch. Beautiful view lots of parking. Easy to social distance. Afterwards drive in neighborhood enjoy Halloween decorations. Then a quick trip through Old Town. Very nice contactless time
What a beautiful place to visit! A beautiful and wide open park with plenty of tables and chairs and parking. Its a great place for a picnic and people watching. Surrounding the park are shops and places for food and drinks, salons, ATMs, and even the Cosmopolitan hotel, which is a great Western themed place. The best part that I experienced was after dark, around 11p, all kinds of bunnies come out and wander around! Ill bring lettuce next visit!
Lovely park to have lunch on the weekends or during your lunch break during the week. Easy access, with reasonable amount of parking available. Beautiful area with views of the Serra Museum and Mission Valley along with views of the old town and mission bay area of San Diego.
Great park, nice atmosphere, great houses near by. The park has public restrooms, lots of shade, and free limited parking
Very nice and quiet beautiful views over the city. Has some historic facts around the mission. Theres no trash can so please take your trash with you to help keep it beautiful, saw so many people just leaving trash around.
Great Park area use or visit. View from Museum/bldg area is Great.Unfortunately the Museum is closed but I will be coming back when it opens up again.
Peaceful, quiet and not many people around. Perfect distance from people. Beautiful day, enjoy your day guys
Short loop trails with nice views, great for walking my dog
Love this park I come here to see the sunset over the water most spectacular sets in the city besides sunset cliffs.
Its a cool place and theres actually alot to be explored here upon second glance.
Great park with something for everyone from flower gardens to hill top look outs to bodies of water, Japanese Tea garden, Botanical Garden, waterfalls, windmills and tulip garden, archery fields, dog walking enclosure, carousel, cant cover it all in one walk. Dont miss the buffalo paddock with real buffalo grazing.
Clean, quiet, scenic. Street parking at the park area is hit and miss, depending on the time of day, but there is a parking area lower on the hill nearer the Presidio, as well as at the base of the hill.Spacious enough that you can get some distance from other people, and there are some bench tables to sit at. Good for a quick scenic walk or leisurely mini-hike. Some good views of Mission Valley and all the way to San Diego Bay. Is definitely hilly so I wouldnt recommend it for anyone that requires wheelchair/wheeled access...its doable but itd be a challenge.
Beautiful; well maintain part of San Diego history. A no cost relaxing spot everyone must experience,
Great stop when youre visiting Old Town, its just above
This park has so many varied spots: wooded, wild open fields, and shaded under the giant magnolia trees. I have done many photo shoots and it’s just a great park to picnic in as well! Beautiful park!
Great park. Super beatiful
It was 106 degrees at our place today so we went for a picnic at Presidio Park. It well shaded with great park benches and a nice 84 degrees. A great place to spend some time relaxing.
Beautiful place that Ive been going to since childhood. So good these places are still around to bring our children and grandchildren to. History come alive.
Park of historical significance. Beautiful place. The primary building looks like the Presidio and looks like it is old, but it is only 95 years old, not 300 years old. Its not the Presidio, but it has great views and offers a historic site. Great museum about a person fundamental to the European settlement of California.
I havent walked here in over 20 years. WHY? I really cant tell you! But i will be back soon. GORGEOUS. The views were INCREDIBLE!. There are some slight hills or you can just do flat.I got lost, LOL.. ( easy for me.. I have little to no spatial awareness!) but the freeway was a great landmark and led me back to the parking lot I was parked in.
Great hikes,, beautiful views seams like a good place to take the family
We walked here at sunset and were treated to some amazing views and history of San Diego.
Needs to take care of a graffiti problem on plaques.
Beautiful views, lovely trails, smells of blooming flowers and nice place to picnic with the kids
Nice park for a quick walk or a slow walk with a date.
Nice place for picnic, or to toss a ball or throw a frisbee. Close to downtown, great park!!
Its has a very nice view!
I hadnt been here in several years. Its such a lovely place.
Great park with views of the bay.
A Great place when the Beaches are Packedand plenty of Photo opportunities!
Remembering back to how this park looked 20 years ago it made me.sad to visit today. It used to be well kept and now it is full of dead palms and almost no grass. For such a beautiful spot I wish it was better taken care of. They have installed bathrooms which is nice, but far from its former glory.
Great views and gardens, statues, architecture and a neat little spot known as witches tower. Youll know you found it when you see the giant mosaic pentagram embedded in the concrete. Last time I went there was a rather soothing drum circle happening atop the tower.
Gorgeous views of San Diego area. Clean and well kept park.
Nice quiet hillside park..
Love the little hike! Nice place for a picnic!
This is the first museum to document San Diego history a gift of George Marston to the citizens. Now the Serra Museum and part of the San Diego History Center its bin the midst of a major redo of its exhibits. The setting is also spectacular. It now focuses primarily on early San Diego history, including the Kumaayaay. Dont miss it!
Secret hot spot of San Diego. Gotta visit here!!!!!
I stopped here (at the Junipero Serra museum) with friends. The museum was closed but we sat outside and enjoyed the sun and breeze.
This place is great. Starting to fill up. Lots of space
Beautiful picturesque park! Great for nature sightings, wildlife, and walking trails. There are also great views on high peaks.
Beautiful, clean park with lots of space for distancing when needed!
BEAUTIFUL PLACE! LOVED IT!
A beautiful place for a picnic
Interesting place, it has a museum about Spanish conquest. You can even find some ruins there and you will be where everything started here in California! Everything around it is super green, perfect to do a great walk with your dog, have a picnic or go biking.
Beautiful place for weddings n parties!
The view of the presidio is nice. The museum offer a mediocre experience. Historically, there used to be a nice exhibition about the first San Diego inhabitants. Now the empty museum has 8 interactive TVs and the building itself offers almost nothing worth the detour.
Stunning views overlooking Mission Bay and northern San Diego.
Damn fine place to go when needing a safe place, thats a park, for a bit of respite and watch the sun set behind point loma.
Beautiful scenery, great place for a picnic and a mini hike!
Chill spot to get away.
One of the places in San Diego one must go to when visiting along with neighboring Old Town. Beautiful and a great spot for pictures
Pretty chill place to have a picnic.
Nice looking park with easy parking. Seemed like a good spot for casual hiking. There was some trash left about but overall was a nice spot.
A great place to have a picnic!
Allows dogs and alcohol.... sign me up! Great views and a beautiful park!
Great lunch spot for a Sunday afternoon.
What a blessing park ever and best church ever existed its a real church way better then these modern boring churches but this church is beautiful its a real live church just has the whole history of it just takes you back in time it never gets old just stop by on the hill so you can check out this church
Large park with lots of grass to lay down on a towel or blanket & chill
Very nice historical building very well kept. Beautiful views with amazing artwork and sculptures.
One of the best views and most historical places in San Diego. Lay on a blanket and soak it in. We usually walk around after a big meal in Old Town. Plenty of shady trees too.
Found a shady spot to share lunch with my husband with plenty of social distancing room.
A lot of the time I have spent there thinking about what is happening in and around myself and family
Very beautiful place to visit. Lots of history here and its a great park to have a good day at.
Beautiful, peaceful, and clean park. Lots of shade!
Old Town is the oldest place in San Diego county and has history every where you turn if you want to learn alot about old San Diego it a great place to go
Beautiful, great place for pictures!!
Very iconic place, historical too.A place with a view of multiple spots of dago. Depending on what side/spot you are, youll have a few of ALL of san diego:From the bay, point loma, ob, airport, old town, seaworld, clairemont, ucsd, and more.Tis become a tradition with friends on 4th of july!
Nice museum. It detailed the archaeological work that has been done on the site. As well as contained artifacts from the Spanish frontier and the Kumeyaay people.Tip: dont forget to climb all the way to the top for a view of the landscape and compare it to what it looked like in 1929!Beautiful location to spend an afternoon.
One of the few places to truly feel like you are out of the city and in nature. Lots of hiking paths, fairly clean, and not to large of a homeless population. I would say to be careful closer to nighttime especially as a female as there are homeless people sometimes on the hiking paths who are questionable you run into but not often.
One if the most historically important places in California. Was better before the exhibit remodel in 2019 but still wonderful. Dont miss the peaceful Park behind the fort tower.
Great sunset view.
Pretty place
Lovely area. Simple yet meaningful museum. Freewill offering.
Quiet park, good for pictures. Old buildings, flowers.
This the second time I go, the first time I went it was in the night time, I get out my car and walk towards the bathroom and like 10 Mexican gang members came out. Thinking I was a rival or something but they seen the confusion on my face and walked away.. I go park on the bottom side by the freeway 8, and another group of Mexican gang members.. a month later I go in the day time and again more groups of gang members, doing by what it looks drug transactions.. they didnt seem to care that there was people looking but I mind my own and kept walking. Be careful people its getting a out of control in Old Town San Diego
Great atmosphere, beautiful park
5 stars because I can fully experience the great wide open green spaces and the Serra Museum. If you are in a wheelchair......thats another story. The Serra Museum, picnic tables and shady areas are not wheelchair friendly. The museum was built on the top of a hill and its a steep climb from the big parking lot, with NO ramp whatsoever. If you or an acquaintance struggle with steps, which there are plenty, then this might be a challenge.Great views, green areas and hilly dirt paths for walking or running.History abounds in this area, Old Town is a history geeks fun place.
Great place to learn about history.
Its a beautiful place.
Ive had some cool experiences here. From a field trip where we buried a time capsule way back and 1991, to 25 years later having a paranormal experience in the forest, to present day where I brought my beautiful girlfriend to explore and see the beautiful view.
Presidio Park is a great place to walk around, picnic and as for me to get married. Absolutely gorgeous scenery and statues for photos.
Great place to watch the sunset in San Diego. Also a great place for photos day or night.
The park itself has great places for slack line, picnicking, and learning about the Mormon expedition to San Diego. Excellent place to walk in the late afternoon. It can be difficult getting up from Palm Canyon, so be careful. Access down there isnt the best. I would recommend entering from the top and going down rather than from the bottom up.
Nice to see people out and picnicking again
250th Birthday of San Diego
The monument to the white deer is a must visit.
