I have been here 4 or 5 times, a couple times for film fests and a few times for movies. I like this Theatre. The parking is great, it is right in the heart of the Castro district which I love and each time I have been lucky enough to find free street parking literally right out front, the prices are great and the staff is always really friendly.

Recently attended the Nurse Blake event with friends, and it was amazing!! The theater was so beautiful. In my opinion, there were no bad seat in the house. Lots of places to eat before or after the show just outside the theater in beautiful downtown San Diego. Parking was super expensive for being there for 3 hours; I paid $34.00. Overall, the experience was fun.

Balboa theater is my favorite place for stand up comedy. I was just there to see Seth Meyers and the acoustics were excellent! We were in row J which has extra leg room and you can still perfectly see the stage without having to pay extra for the first few rows. They have a nice bar and snacks that you can bring inside and you can pay for parking when you ourchase your tickets and use the structure adjacent to the theater. I have been to balboa theater at least 5 times and Ive enjoyed every single one of them!

This is a great theater to see a show! I went here to see David Spade. Even though it was a sold out show, there was plenty of room to move around, and plenty of bars (with high prices) setup around the theater for drinks. The staff were all very helpful in finding seats. Its definitely a fun night out, Id recommend going here.

Excellent staff and good views from the balcony. I saw a live locals show from The Last Podcast On The Left and the sounds was good! The line for drinks can be super long(maybe just the events I have been to are all heavy alcoholics?) bathrooms where clean and place smelled clean.

Beautiful theater and great acoustics. We saw a piano concert here and it was amazing. So glad theyve kept the character and beauty inside. Not a bad seat in there in my opinion. Theater also is on the plaza which is nice. Parking is not always easy if youre not familiar with the area. There is a parking garage but it will cost you.

The Theatre was great! My girlfriend and I attended a comedy show here. Entry access was easy, secure, and the staff was very friendly. We wanted to grab a drink prior to the show. They had plenty of bar space that allowed for quick service. Restrooms where also big enough to allow people to use the facilities without long waits. We a had an awesome experience here. I will definitely attend other functions at this Theatre for sure.

We went to the San Diego Gay Mens Chorus. The show was worth admission. It was entertaining. Nothing not to like. The theater was beautiful, not a bad seat, at least for listing to music. The only thing would be the seats in the balcony are not made for people with padding. Pay for the lower down seats.

First time catching a comedy show at this theatre. It was easy to get in, easy to find our seats. There were lots of staff on hand to help. The bathrooms are located the next floor down which is weird, but they were clean. It seemed like any seat would have a decent view, so I wouldnt worry about where to get tickets for the next show. Only qualms were that the pop-up portable bar was kind of pricy for the tiny drinks ($11 for a 9oz cup of gin & tonic...but they did use Bombay Sapphire gin, which was nice), and that the exit doors closest to the stage exit out to the street directly lol Side note: it was cheaper to buy the tickets in person rather than online! But the box office is located at the other theatre! Still worth saving the fees!!

I love this theater...too bad the womens bathrooms are either way downstairs or upstairs. They should make the men go downstairs or up and have the womens bathroom on the main floor. The only other thing I do not care for is that the main lobby is really tiny! It is way too crowded when everyone is trying to get food or find their seats, etc. The seating area is beautiful with all the old scroll work on the walls. The sound quality is very good as well. There are no bad seats even up in the balcony.

Heads up if youre a Type 1 Diabetic. They do not allow you to bring juice into the venue. Even if you divulge that you are Diabetic and even if the juice is in sealed containers. The purse checker even called over the paramedic and the paramedic also reinforced that I wasnt allowed to bring the juice in.This is the first time Ive ever had an issue with this and I was actually really surprised. TSA doesnt even give me grief for carrying juice. Not even on international flights!Seems like it should be illegal to deny someone access to supplies that are necessary to avoid life threatening hypoglycemia.

Theater is beautiful and very reminiscent of a time gone by. The seats are incredibly small and close together however. I am 6 foot 4 inches and physically cannot sit in a standard seat. Luckily the house manager Brenden F. Was extremely nice and helpful in not only addressing the situation but rectifying it. Him and Patty have made sure that I will be seeing many more shows here.

I went for the first time to see a live play by Fellowship for the Performing Arts at this venue. Delightfully old style inside. A theater from the past and unique experience to see this type of venue again. I am glad San Diego realizes the value of this place. My only disappointment was that they do not sell any food and refreshments. Go there if you get the chance but eat first. There are several restaurants close by. One tip, it is adjacent to Horton Plaza Macys. Instead of paying $10 for parking or more, Macys will validate your ticket for free no purchase necessary.

Nice theatre, not my favorite but its ok. I have been to almost every theatre in the San Diego/ downtown area and this one is my least favorite.Parking sucks (tip: park in the parking lot under the NBC building, its the closest and reasonably priced, if you can call any parking lot reasonable). Lots of homeless people litter the area, so it reeks like urine and feels unsafe. It is easy to find & access though since its on a major thoroughfare, so thats nice.Their seats are comfortable but lacks leg room. Since there is such a small area for people to pass by, even if you stand up, people commonly step on your feet. The sound quality is good. The stage is shorter than most, so you feel closer to the performers, which I like. The concession area is small so you feel very cramped. Since its long and narrow, during intermissions its hard to navigate. Also they offer much less variety of food and beverage choices than other theatres in the area.If you have a choice, go somewhere else. But typically you dont, so it doesnt really matter if you like the theatre or not.
