The place was clean, the seats were comfortable, and the screen was big, clear, and loud. Besides, the staff that entertained me at that time was very helpful, nice, and accommodating. Eventually, I truly have fun watching movies in your place. It was satisfying! Thanks!
We saw “Leave No Trace” here on a Sunday afternoon. The staff is wonderful. They even had a guy step out in front of the theater and humorously remind everyone to turn their phones off, and to not talk during the film.I can’t speak to the food. We just shared a root beer. The little mall is really neat. We walked, but apparently they validate parking. Our only gripe was the seats. I guess we’re just spoiled, but we’re accustomed to seats where you can put your feet up. The seats allow you to lean back, but they are not designed to remain in the back position.Overall, a well-run theater.
The space is beautiful, but the sing-a-longs are definitely the reason Im giving Landmarks Hillcrest Cinemas 4 stars. Ive brought different types of people to the sing-a-longs and they all had a great time. Even if you dont know the words to the song (itll be displayed on the screen) or you dont like to sing, the crowd is a show in itself. Everyone gets into the movie, cheers on the protagonist, boos the villains, yells at the screen. If there is a movie you like and its one of the sing-a-longs, I strongly recommend going. It will really make you love the movie 10 times more.
The Landmarks Hillcrest Cinemas is an amazing San Diego landmark. The theater is beautiful, and its a shame that most old theaters in SSan Diego are now gyms and 99 cent stores. It feels like something out of old Hollywood. Its a real gem, I tell you. Also, it doesnt cost any more than say the Metreon to see a movie here. The snacks are expensive, but not any more than AMC 1000. So why waste your money at one of those places when you can do it in the Landmarks Hillcrest Cinemas, with charm.
The cinema has a really nice reclining chairs, there is not a lot of seats which makes it feel more relaxing place and a bit more intimate and exclusive atmosphere feel to it. As you enter the ticketing area it is cramped because it’s really small. If you just want to get in and out and watch your movie this is a place to go, just be prepared to spend $8 for parking fee located underground.
This place is freakin amazing! I had heard great things about the Castro Theatre going into my first time experience here, but none of them actually compared to the real life inaugural encounter I had with this historic and remarkable landmark.
Always great movies, great staff! Super clean too. Glad to be back!
This is the kind of place and establishments we all should be supporting! As someone who always loves to watch and support local movies, this place gives the fix. Its a cozy movie house with free to use blankets, which makes it different from the usual mall cinemas. We will go back and bring friends!
This is one of our favorite film theatres. Their projection and audio equipment are excellent. They have recently updated the complex with new seats and carpeting, plus a new concession area now with a liquor license. They have the best popcorn in town and are generous with refills. There is an underground garage and they offer three-hour validated free parking.
This theater is wonderful. They have a nice selection of concessions with the best popcorn I’ve ever had. Came to see Parasite, which was incredible, and had a lovely time. I’ve been here before and since they’ve remodeled, they only have recliners in some of the auditoriums. Wasn’t an issue for me at all but thought I’d mention that they’re not in all auditoriums. Both types of seats are pretty comfortable but the recliners are definitely preferred. Staff was super friendly, positive, accommodating, and even announced the film to us beforehand, in person. They validate your parking for 3hrs which was perfect for us but if you’re seeing Irishman, which we plan to soon, I heard someone explaining that they won’t be able to give more than 3hrs. Makes sense to me since Irishman is just extremely long (almost 4hrs). I’d highly recommend this place for any lover of artistic films and an overall good movie experience. We’ll definitely be back for Irishman and Honey Boy
Good news, in addition to movies, they have globally sourced non organic, blue raspberry slushies, made without ever touching an actual berry of any known existence to mankind and that are the best. Get one. If you drink it really fast, it has this unique effect of giving you a headache to help you think about your decision not to savor this delicious beverage. Once its gone, only 2 more movie trailers so there is time for a refill.
I love all the independent films they show here. Good parking access w free validation, good variety of snacks especially the popcorn flavorings and comfortable seating. Affordable ticket pricing also!
Awesome little cinema with great seats. We sat 2nd row because we arrived late to a show but the seats were so comfortable it didnt seem like the screen was overwhelming. Parking was about 3 dollars and didnt think to ask if they validated. Popcorn was overpriced as expected but tasted great. Excellent service and friendly staff. Beer is served at the concessions as well.
Love this theater. Just saw Emma. Wonderfully done and just delightful. Perfect cast! Love the story.
Loved this movie experience! Underground parking. Buy a snack, get parking validation= excellent. Each chair is a clean leather recliner. Good width on chair. This was very comfortable. I also appreciated the movie host to remind us of no talking/ cell off and how many previews there would be shown. Verdict, going back asap!
Just saw a movie with my son. The theatre wasnt crowded, the movie selection was good, nice snack bar, kind staff. All around a great experience.
Very nice movie theater. The seats were nice and comfy. They reclined also. This theater sold your normal concession stand items but they also sold adult beverages, and hot tea. When we went it was a Monday evening and there was no one else besides me and my boyfriend. After 8pm m-f if you park on the street there is no charge for parking. If you use the garage they will validate your parking also. If we lived in the area we would definitely go to that theater again.
Always nice and clean. This is our preferred movie theater in the San Diego metro area. And they have independent and foreign films which is nice of you dont care for the mainstream dreck.
This theater is great! The plaza has parking at $1 an hour I believe but have your ticket validated when purchasing your ticket to have free parking. They have a very small selection of movies that generally do not play in bigger theaters. I love how someone comes In and speaks to you before the movie starts. They also have reclining seats that are very spacious and comfortable as well.
Flipping love it, abso-freaking-lutley, it was my honor to see Wont you be my neighbor, upon my first visit to this magnificent theater. I know they are big supporters of Independent film, always advertised exciting trailers, types of films you wouldnt know about otherwise. What woman doesnt love variety? They sell artisan snacks even wine, & the seats are quite comfy.
If youre in mood for a movie outside of your usua; to inspire you or just move you - not the Marvels, the Foxs, the Disneys or anything commercial Hollywood but more life-like and believable, this cinema is for you. Their movies are usually art, documentary or narratives - sometimes foreign language as well...The seating is super comfortable and reclines !Also, they validate parking.
Its a pleasant and clean cinema. Watched a really good Korean movie. 10 oclock showing only had about 6 people in the theater. Undergroung parking available and you can get your ticket validated.
My favorite movie theater to go to in San Diego. The employees are usually super friendly and you can tell they have a passion for film. Some of the auditoriums have leather reclining seats, which is a plus. Good snacks, and usually show all the best independent films. Can sell out for some of the bigger releases but usually a nice, quiet place to watch a good movie.
In the daytime, Hillcrest is just an awesome place to visit. You can get almost everything you want here.
I love this theater! Ive been coming here for years and will continue to enjoy it for more to come. They have a great selection of indie movies and reasonable prices. The popcorn is amazing as is their Italian soda. However, I do miss the coconut flavored Italian soda. Hopefully they bring it back!
Super comfy seats, cozy smaller theaters and friendly, polite staff.Only con is that the theater was heavily perfumed. It didnt smell bad, but if someone had bad allergies or bad asthma, I wouldnt recommend here.
Awesome selection of films and great location.
The theater has been renovated.New seats very comfortable recliners. You buy tickets inside.Parking validation machine inside also, for 3 hours.
Nice movie theatre with comfortable seats which was important for a 3 1/2 hour movie. The manager was a hoot! Told jokes and introduced the movie to us.
Such a cool theater. The staff is super cool!
A plush viewing experience for reasonable ticket prices. Loved it.
Went to see The Farewell at Hillcrest Cinemas. I recommend everyone see it and Im giving it 5 out of 5 stars. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. The seats are comfy and the air conditioning was on and kept us all quite comfortable.
Wonderful customer service. I tried to purchase tickets for the Landmark in Santa Cruz, but accidentally got tickets for Hillcrest through the online ticket vendor. When the ticket vendor wouldnt issue me a refund I contacted the theatre to see if they could help. The assistant manager of the theater sent me two tickets via mail. Assistant Managers name was Luke and he was lovely. Thank you Luke!
Legendary movieplex. Excellent movie selection
Great location, reclining seats, friendly staff and movies you cant find anywhere else!
The attendants at this Landmark theater are rude to senior citizens. They act like police walking into movies and checking peoples tickets with flashlights. I think they should improve their customer satisfaction policy. No other movie theater that I am aware of treats seniors in such a demeaning manner.
Theater is freezing cold, popcorn was cold, rude staff, still had to pay for parking because they dont validate for the entire time of the movie. Only reason I went to this theater is because it was the only one showing the Irishman. now I know to never go back.
Had a pretty good experience, the 2x I was there... Except for some very rude fellow patrons who were loud talking and chomping on food loudly, then they got up and come back 6 Xs spilled soda and snacks every time.. possibly drunk. Mom of teenage kid that shouldnt be in this movie, fell asleep and snored REALLY loudly... .... Relatively Helpful staff. Prettty Good parking situation... until the second visit when the main entrance to the parking lot was suddenly & inexplicably closed without warning nor explanation disapointing to have some more rude+ selfish fellow patrons chose to cut into the long exit line that some more patient folks and I had been quietly & calmly waiting in line for a long time to exit from... honking & causing a scene. Nice theater. Could really be cheaper... maybe a student and disabled persons discount would be nice, especially considering the huge amount of extra money and effort/staff (expenses) required for a disabled person to go out to a movie. I would go more if I could afford it.
Seats that are almost like beds. Reasonable prices. Friendly staff. Free parking in the parking garage from Hell.
Popcorn is terrific here. The seats are so comfortable.
Unique movie selections available. I love the small theater feel and the non-mainstream documentary and independent films shown here. The price is the same as big mainstream theaters even though the theaters are smaller. But the seats are very comfy and plenty of leg room.
The staff were very helpful and the seats inside the theater were very comfortable.
A great little theater and pretty much the only cinema playing indie films in the San Diego area. Parking garage is easy (and free if you get your ticket validation.)The seats are nice, and recline all the way back with a button. Our theater was clean and at a reasonable temperature (unlike some freezing cold theaters.) They also serve beer and wine, along with other snacks and refreshments. We will definitely be back in the near future.
A dream after the remodelling!I am so thrilled that theres a comfortable place to watch my indie movies now!! Enough with the character building, hard chairs that dont recline an inch!! We got space now, a decent recliner and wine/beer. Yay. And with the validated parking, it makes it very easy to watch your flicks. The prices went up too, so I gather the remodel got passed on to us, movie viewers.
I cannot say enough good about going to this theater! One of the employees gives a live intro to the movie you are going to see! I love it sat in the recliners tonight and had s great time. Parking is excellent just took elevator up and there it is! The employees there are the friendliest ever! I absolutely will go back again and again. Food is good there too!!
It is a cinema with a calm atmosphere where you can watch movies comfortably. Great experience at an affordable price. Sound is always top notch and seating was comfortable. Many food options are available which you can enjoy in the break. Popcorn was amazing and all the things are available at reasonable price.
I really liked the vibe of this discount theater. It was less than $10 a ticket for a 5pm showing. They gave a curtain speech at the beginning of our movie with the reminder to turn off cell phones, and announced that they would be showing 4 previews selected to go with our film. They were for non-mainstream movies, some foreign, some indy. It was really cool. The seats are comfy recliners and it was all at a similar level, unlike the normal stair set up of most theaters. My only complaints would be that the projectors luminosity wasnt very bright, so certain bits of the movie looked off or dark (I could tell because I was seeing this film for the second time with a friend) and some of the speakers sounded like their drivers may be a bit blown out. Most people probably wouldnt notice though, so enjoy checking this place out!
Very friendly staffWas very impressed at how clean everything was.
A great little theater fantastic seats, they serve beer and wine, along with other snacks and refreshments. We will definitely be back in the near future.Worth a visit If you like indie movies.
Yes. It is undergoing renovations, but it is still the best place to relax and see a movie that is not being shown at the malls. For cheaper than those sticky-floor auditoriums, you have recliners, loads of walkway space, personal service, great food options. I especially like the touch of having an actual human being introducing the movie. He seemed so appropriate for the atmosphere.
Excellent place to view movies, friendly welcoming staff.
Nice clean and comfortable. The Staff greets you and points out the exits before the movie begins which is very nice.
Staff terrific. Popcorn excellent. Beer and wine. Great coffee. If you go often, buy a book of passes and save a bunch of money on ticket purchases! Some theatres are comfy, but some of the seats are not that great, thus deducted one star. I dont go anywhere else because this theatre has the BEST films.
Thank goodness for this theater! It is one of the few alternative theaters screening film festival quality. I get so tired of mainstream theaters....same stuff always. But this theater really chooses carefully and cultivates a provocative and interesting selection of films. We go in Monday for less crowds.
I love this theatre. They always have the artsy, trendy movies. The theatre is always clean, concessions are efficient and good. Not all theatres have the fully reclining chairs so make sure that youre getting what you expect by double checking when purchasing your ticket online.
This is the only movie theater that always has several movies worth seeing. They also hold events like meet-and-greets with directors and the like. Service is friendly and knowledgeable, there’s plentiful parking what with the underground parking structure (with 3 hours of validation!), and the best popcorn around.
They have those new stadium seating chairs that go almost flat back. The theater is very clean and comfortable. They serve wine and beer and food. Prices are on the high side. Adult tickets were $13 for a Saturday afternoon. A bit High I thought.
Landmark theatre has very unique movies not available in national movie chains.
I like the comfortanle seats and the intimacy of the Landmark Theater. The flavored popcorn enhancements are good too.
This theater is just awesome.Great location and parking.Newly renovated with new reclining seats. But most of all they show some of the best art films and documentaries.Ive been going there since 1998 and will continue.
My favorite Movie theater! Very relaxing place.
Venue OK, but parking bad. Took forever for 6 cars to get out of the garage
Great place to watch movies with your sweetheart!
It’s so pretty, so clean, staff it’s friendly and helpful, never crowded, My favorite movie theater!
Theatre was clean, staff friendly, audio and video good quality, chairs comfy, prices reasonable, great selection of movies, free parking with validation. I will be returning here for more movies for sure!
Courteous staff. . Parking validation is a plus along with the clean and well lighted area .
Love the movies and staff is very friendly and would give a five star, but for females the shared bathrooms on the first floor is miserable for any female (we dont like to share bathrooms fyi and see urine on the floor is disgusting). They have two they could easily make one female and one male. You have to go upstairs if you have to go during the movie and takes more time away and really not necessary,
Since they have updated their theater, Ive been able to enjoy movies seated in reclining chairs. Their food is excellent - onion battered green beans and gourmet hot dogs! I also love their lemonade chiller. Their ticket prices are either matched or less than AMC and Regal, but their food is more affordable and better quality. Plus, the theater experience is just overall better (no interruptions/the other movie-go-ers are considerate/the theater doesnt smell of stale nachos). The employees are so polite, helpful, and friendly. And, theyre accommodating. The place is well-kept, Im pleased to see the theaters and bathrooms so clean. Free parking with validation. Love this place, and they play some good indie movies.
It was great! Completely new and automated. New large recliners and automated ticket purchasing.!
Leather reclines alone are worth the price.
AMC Luxuries without amc prices. It’s also more effective in terms in cleanliness. They validate parking so you don’t have to worry about the misery of street parking and always have a wide variety of movies, showing blockbusters and indie/Sundance films. Their popcorn tastes fresh, not artificial, you will definitely taste a difference. With my military discount my tickets are usually $10 and they have a self-purchase kiosk for expediting your wait.
Easy validated 3-hr parking in a cool part of town. Great movie selection and the popcorn here is the best!
Favorite spot for those seeking quality films in a comfortable, clean theater. Recent upgrades to seating and concessions. Comcessions include beer and the usual treats. A great place to go!
Love this theater. They show great films - so many Oscar contenders. Many of the auditoriums have super comfy reclining chairs. And the popcorn is sooo good!
Small and comfortable theater but no free parking
Its a small, but great, movie theatre. Parking is free with the movie purchase. The staff is very attentive and nice. This is a great venue for watching independent films.
This theater is so cool I love the area and I love the architecture that they have at this theater especially the new construction they are doing there the workers there are very nice and know exactly what theyre doing
Nice place. Cozy. Good films.
Itwas great clean and they serve beer
Central San Diego location with underground parking garage (free with validation) offers a selection of art and documentary films. The concession stand serves as ticket sales as well for a one-stop purchase of a nice variety of refreshments which include egg rolls and beers. Try to avoid the downstairs restroom if possible, head up for a clean, well-tended respit.
Beautiful theater, easy parking and close to food.
About the average price of a movie ticket these days. Great seating options. This theater chain shows more serious films, if thats what youre into or want to try out something different this is the place. I watched Loving Vincent and The Shape of Water here and sinfully enjoyed my experience.
One of the best theaters in town! It shows intelligent, thought provoking indie films and documentaries. They just remodeled the theaters and did a great job.
Clean. Good popcorn. Seats recline. Comfortable
Awesome leather recliners in theater where saw RBG. Great remodel for comfort. Better variety of food available. Good parking with voucher. Able to take service dog.
Enjoyed Mary Queen of Scotland, great movie. Also loved the reclining seats and the popcorn was good too.
I love the movies, and go to this theater very frequently. They have reclining seats in some of the theaters which are like heaven!
Seen a Great movie If Beale Street could Talk? Good clean movie theater with plenty of seating.
The recent renovation is lovely. Super comfy and huge reclining seats. Ticket prices are still reasonable. They are always offering the less-mainstream options. I also love the in-person speech preceding the previews.
It is very relaxing and laid back. Not full of young punks all over the place
Employees are always gracious and expeditious. To boot, on this particular visit, we were in a huge rush running behind and accidentally purchased child tickets at the kiosks by pressing the wrong button. They caught the error, fixed our tickets and still had us in the door on time!
Worth a visit, seems like a nice place for your better than average date night, however be aware, they show Indy movies only.I cant give a higher rating because I didnt stick around, I just happened upon the place looking for a regular movie theater, bad listing online.
Love this theater! Reminds me of when I was a kid, when theatres were more intimate. Theyve also remodeled and the seats are so comfortable.
Updated interior, clean, functional, and the staff were very friendly - there were smiles, and a polite urgency to assist the customer. I was impressed by the seating, very comfortable and non-fabric (which is much easier to keep sanitary). Parking underground is a snap and free with validation by the cinema staff.
Great neighborhood theater. Like the independent style movies, staff, the patrons. Promise myself to go more often. Matinees!
