This is one of my favorite museums. There are more things to see here than I could ever fully explore. This great States history has been captured by little treasures that hold stories of real people. Other locations and monuments complement this museums and can be could all over the state. Take the family, go for a minute or spent the whole day. Truly incredible.

We only were able to view from outside the gates, but cant wait to go back to tour when it is open (we were there a few hours before it opened). Village is beautifully set right next to the water. Enjoyed our walk around.

I loved every minute I was there. This museum is awesome, and the price is right.

My Dad and I spent hours on this building. Many of the pioneer tools used for blacksmithing were the same tools his father used. It was an awesome walk down memory lane for him. He also saw exhibits of floor installation tools that were like the ones he had used, only older. It was awesome. No photography allowed.

AMAZING...did not have time to see everything due to being part of a field trip. Definitely returning and taking my whole family. Printing out the scavenger hunt form and questions was so fun!!

Feb. 2019 : Though it was my intention to visit the museum itself, got there just before closing time which is 4PM during Winter season. Tough luck...The historical building itself - located next to the State Capitol - is definately worth taking pictures of. When in SLC again I will make sure to pay the museum a visit.

This museum was surprisingly cool. Especially downstairs. Theyve got some really cool artifacts. Once you do the basement and first floor the rest felt kind of redundant... The hair wreaths were kind of creepy.

It was a very nice place to go see. There are a lot of interesting things to see at this place. I would go there again, because there are too many things to see in one visit.

Lots of cool things to learn about, we went on Pioneer Day and they had activities for kids, everyone was dressed up, and they even had a Brigham Young show up to take pics with. My wifes phone got the picture with BY, but still very cool. I also learned that my Grandmother x4 is in the museum and my daughter can join the International Society Daughters of Utah Pioneers since she is a descendant of a pioneer.

Spectacular! What history, all contained in a beautiful place! Weve been three times and still havent seen everything!

Very big (3 floors), full of interesting artefacts and traditional tools and you can observe everything through cristal clear glass.

This place is fun to walk around and learn about Utahs roots. The museum contains pioneer artifacts that are interesting and nostalgic.

Really enjoyed it. Lots of history. Lots of variety. Free. Not crowded. Not bombarded with religion. And the staff was very happy to help with any questions

A great overview of early Mormon life. A few glaring inaccuracies though, but many many great artifacts and displays.

A fascinating, extensive (at times surprisingly exhaustive!) collection of artifacts from the time of Utahs settlement by Mormon pioneers through the mid-20th century. The museum is operated independently of any official state or church organization by the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, who take seriously their charge to present history through its artifacts as factually and accurately as possible, neither glorifying the beliefs of the pioneers nor belittling their courage and faith. And its free (donations appreciated).

Thousands of exhibits, but some small items are too cramped. Just looks cluttered. Several floors. The place is like a maze. They provide you with a map, but it is inaccura re you cant find your way out of the first two floors with it.

Beautiful building and the artifacts are laid out to be easily seen. Well taken care of!

This place has A LOT of pioneer things from clothes to medical supplies to dishes. If you think you have pioneer ancestors, do your homework before you go so you can present them with a few names. The have everything logged in the computer and can tell you which items were from which people.

I love the collection on display. Such a lovely variety and interesting items. The short movies are enjoyable and give your legs a break if you are there for a long time. It is well organized and the volunteers are delightfully chatty. I do feel that the display boxes are a bit over stuffed and there are quite a few repeated items, but we enjoyed the visit. There is a small cute gift shop too.

Jam packed full of love for our ancestors

This is a fun museum for an hour or two. They have a TON of stuff that is piled up so you can browse through interesting pioneer artifacts. The building is cool and the staff was really nice and willing to answer questions (but mostly they leave you alone - which I like).

This is the best museum I have ever been to. The sheer volume of antiques, relics, and photos make you feel like youve taken a time machine to the 1850s, and every item tells a fascinating story. If you are descended from pioneers, odds are youll find your ancestors somewhere in the building. I found two of my own. Theres even a scavenger hunt for kids, so the whole family can enjoy it. Loved it! :)

What a hidden gem! I had a great time strolling around the Pioneer Memorial Museum and learn about Utahs Pioneers. There are so many artifacts. My favorite was the stained glass painting in the meeting room on the first level (What a beautiful painting!). The museum is well-kept and the staffs are very friendly. Admission is free so you cant go wrong.

Very good museum. Lots and lots of things to look at, some of the obscure items could have used explanations, but otherwise a great stop.

This museum is impressive in the amount of artifacts displayed, almost overwhelming, in fact. There are 4 floors in the main house and 2 more in the carriage house. They have many amazing things, however most are simply displayed with only the items name and date. There are very few interpretive signs which is too bad as the pioneers stories are so incredible. Not a place many kids would like.

The dup Museum was wonderful all the people were so very helpful. I took my 9 year old grand-daughter. She can hardly wait to join.

Fascinating to see and learn from so much pioneer history. I enjoyed the museum and only got to see a fraction of the displays.

Not so much a story of history as a story of individual peoples lives and belongings. Its mainly a collection of stuff from Mormon pioneers--shawls, dolls, pianos, personal effects, samplers, clothes, photographs, etc. Very cool to walk through. Free to visit.

I came here with my niece and we were so pleasantly surprised. Room after room of pioneer belongs. We could of stayed all day. Its a beautiful building near the capitol. Id highly recommend. A wonderful place.

So many things to see & learn here, be sure to take a few dollars for the gift shop. Entry is free and donations are very much appreciated.

Its got a lot of cool, old stuff and spooky old portraits inside. They recently changed the hours so that its only open until 4pm instead of 5pm (at least on Saturdays), so we only ended up with about 30 min to visit. Otherwise, very good. No entry fee.

4 levels packed with pioneer artifacts and information. For being free you could do a lot worse. Need something to do on a Saturday in winter? Go check this place out. Its quite the experience, and you and your kids will learn a ton about Utahs interesting and faith-filled history

Brought 50 7th graders here on a field trip. They loved it. So many amazing artifacts from Utahs past.

So amazing...you could spend hours and not see everything.

This place is a treasure trove!! If you like history or antiques, this is a must stop. Give yourself plenty of time because you could spend hours taking everything in.

My kids thought this museum was super interesting. This museum has so many different things from the past. My teenagers were freaked out by the old black and white pictures of the pioneers who look ghost-like They call it the freaky pioneer museum and love taking their cousins and youth groups there. Best part is, that it is free. They accept donations when you walk in and is encouraged.

Awesome to visit, supposedly haunted was a plus. Went for a field trip, loss of historical treasures.

Interesting museum. Mostly earlier earlier settlers belongings. Dont miss the 2 headed lamb and the hand craved wooden leg.

Lots to look at here. If you are like me and like to read all the displays, plan on spending some time here. Great resource for learning about Utah history. Lots of displays and artifacts. Parking is kind of tricky though.

They had so many different artifacts from the LDS pioneers. It was really cool and interesting to see exactly what sorts of items the pioneers had. It was almost like going into a time machine. Awesome museum!

We arrived to find a sign on the door saying some emergency caused them to close early. We drove about 35 miles for the disappointment. We got there not long after lunch.

It is always a great experience to go to the pioneer memorial museum. Everytime there is a person I have not seen before I talk to. I get great information this way about certain things the person has knowledge of. They are so incredible nice and show you what they taking about. There is so much in this museum that it is a good thing to come back to it. The stories from some people are incredible and when you focus everytime on something different you will see a lot more than others!

Four floors and a carriage house of anything you could think of relating to pioneer life. You can spend hours and still see something new the next time you visit. Oh, did I mention that its free and out of the sun.

Pioneer Memorial Museum, 300 North Main Street, Salt Lake City, UT 84103 is a cool museum. Little kids might not like it, but I liked seeing all of the old stuff and reading about the pioneers. My wife has an ancestor whos picture is in there and we took the kids to see the Pioneer stuff. It was free and killed a few hours.

Edit: its not 2020 and I occasionally think about this museum back in Australia. I think this place is a museum done so very well. I also remember the amazing staff member who talked with me for ages explaining the exhibits. Ive never been in a museum where Ive felt such a personal connection to the exhibits and a love for the place from their staff. She offered me a lovely book on the place which i didnt take ...I always regret that as Id love to look at it to remind me of my time there.highly recommendedI visited this place on a whim and I was not dissapointed. This place has collected so much from the early settlers and it is amazing to see what they brought with them (Steinway Pianos). To have covered wagons so close you can touch them. A must see. The staff were also so helpful.

A building pcked full of artifacts from early saints in the Utah area. Feelers ver very authehebtic and helps to make the saints and their experience seem more tangible. The wonderful women’s working in the front front are very kind and knowledgeable! The museum is free, and donations are welcomed. They even have a scavenger hunt to help kids (or adults like myself) through the museum.

There are lots of pioneer relics, a scavenger hunt for kids and you can read the life story of thousands of pioneers, often on their own handwritingThese histories are a treasure.

I cant believe the assortment of pioneer relics in this museum! The staff is friendly. There are three or four levels to the museum so plan accordingly so you dont run out of time. Be sure to visit the carriage house.

A great place to learn about the founders of the salt lake valley.

Second best collection of wreaths made of human hair I have ever seen. Super helpful staff, lots of primary documents, and compelling stories of early women on the frontier.

It has interesting stuff, but it looks more like a storage place, rather then a museum.

I visited this museum on a field trip when I was in elementary school and could hardly remember it. Lately, my husband and I have been super into finding our ancestors and learning their stores. We decided it was time to visit this museum. It has free admission as well.The museum was easy enough to find, but we werent sure where to park. We didnt see a parking lot, so we parked on a nearby street for 2 hour parking. Later, when walking out, we saw a small parking lot with around 5-7 parking spaces directly north of the museum, FYI. You get to it from the road directly east of the museum (turn into what looks like an alley and it will open up to the small parking lot).We walked around to the front or south side of the building, and noticed the ramp for strollers/wheelchairs was on the west side. My husband decided he just wanted to carry the stroller up the stairs instead of walk clear around the building for the ramp. The front doors are pretty narrow. Our stroller barely fit. I didnt see a wheelchair/handicap button to push.We entered and were greeted by two friendly women sitting behind the front desk area. One of the ladies gave us a map of the museum, explained it to us, and asked if we were looking for anything in particular. They had a free coloring book for Pioneer Days and a free Days of 47 newspaper activity thing which we took.We walked into the first room of the museum and noticed it was jam-packed full of stuff. Pictures of pioneers are all over the walls covering every inch of the museum. There are different glass cases with lots of pioneer clothing, blankets, hats, weapons, tools and a lot more in them. Every item in the glass exhibit cases is labeled with a little piece of paper in front of it, and most included names of who the artifact belonged to.While we were in the first room, another woman came in and asked if we needed help finding anything. We started talking to her, and she brought out a binder that had names of which pioneers are pictured on the walls. We looked up two ancestors in the binder and she gave us directions where to find the pictures.It was difficult to find the elevator and bathrooms, and to find our way around. They could use some helpful signage. We were able to find some pictures of our ancestors and some other neat things like John Moyles wooden leg (a famous pioneer who walked 20 miles each week with a wooden leg to Salt Lake City from Alpine to work on the Salt Lake Temple).This museum is so rich with pioneer heritage. It honestly was overwhelming how much stuff they have in there. Definitely a great place to learn more about pioneers if you have some time. We spent an hour or two inside and could have spent weeks with how many things they have to see. We had a great experience here.

Best for the kids to understand Utahs history. It is the 4th grade curriculum.
