Great organization doing important historical work related to Utah and the greater West. The oral history work that has been done at the American West center is invaluable and priceless and includes extensive stories from Native Americans, war veterans, and those involved in the early HIV/AIDS activism in Utah. The center is located in the old officers quarters of Fort Douglas. The fort was once the home of the famed 10th Cavalry Regiment—one of the original “Buffalo Soldier” regiments in the post-Civil War U.S. Army. The Fort Douglas museum located in the same area has wonderful exhibits showcasing American Indian history and the history of the Buffalo Soldiers.
