Very moving memorial. It is very interesting seeing the names and how they were killed. It is small, and you could rush through there, or probably comfortably see it in around 10-20 minutes pausing and reading each one. If you are interested in history and Salem’s past, this is a must-visit.

If you are in Salem, its a must. I am moved to see that a memorial exists in the heart of town, to reflect on the innocent lives lost in the Salem Witch Trials. So much of Salem is commercialized and touristy, that its easy to forget the real reason it is so important to visit...to reflect on the intolerance experienced in our countrys history! I was also touched to find out Elle Wiesel gave a dedication speech here the year it opened. If this is something that interests you I recommend also visiting Proctors Ledge memorial (only a few minutes away).

What a walk back in time! This beautiful memorial is for all the people that were accused and placed on trial for being a witch. Each bench has the name of the individual and how they were killed. Majority of them were hanged and only one person was pressed to death. So this is just a memorial and is not where the individuals were hanged, that’s at a different location. The memorial is right in front of a very old graveyard, but the graveyard was closed the time we went because of maintenance. There’s no gate in front of the memorial, so it’s open 24 hours, but the graveyard closes.COVID Safety rating: 10/10, it’s outside and when we went it wasn’t busy. There were only 2 teens and 3 unsupervised little kids. Plus majority of people in Salem were wearing masks even outside.

This is a beautifully presented and very touching memorial. The thought that went into the creation and layout is incredibly deep, and thought provoking. Keep in eye out for the final words of the accused, etched in stone on the perimeter ground. Also worth noting, the section of wall that is separate, and inverted, representing those who could have stepped in and stopped the horrors, but chose to stand back and not act.In this era, when were again slipping into witch hunts, and baseless accusations, sites like this are VITAL to remember the mistakes of our past and committing to do better than our forefathers.

An amazing place full of history. Being from California, you cant wrap your head around the amount of history there is here. Just walking among grave stones that are several hundred years old is a rare experience you cant do in many places. And to be able to do it on the night before Halloween adds that extra layer of thrills and chills.

I am very glad we checked this out. It was a beautifully done memorial. If you are going to Salem it should be a must add to your places to see. Since there is no known place of burial for the victims of this event it gives memorial to each one.My daughter had done her research and gave us her own mini tour and that was nice. It helped us understand the layout of the monuments better. I would suggest looking up things about it so you can go in with some knowledge of the layout.

Beautiful and peaceful. Walked through the cemetery and was amazed how old it is. Unknowingly captured some curious voices while recording video of my walk through of the cemetery, it was before 9am on Saturday, July 28. I was the only living being in the cemetery aside from 4 doves so that debunks any extra voices...it would make any sceptics or non believers in the afterlife think twice.Give respect to all, whether in human or spirit form.I would love to visit again!

This was the first place we stopped & a good place to begin a visit to Salem. The cemetery is a little creepy with the many old graves. Wonderful place to learn about our history. I recommend taking an informational tour. When I go I leave tokens for Burroughs, Bishop, contemplate how I am able to practice my religion freely, and yet, they were only perceived as being Witches, died for it. Salem is a great New England sea town. I recommend going in September.

Really enjoyed this place. The stones are in a horseshoe shape and you go around reading the stones. Each person has their own stones with year of birth and year of death as well as how they died i.e. by hanging. I got goosebumps going around to each stone just thinking of the horrible death these people had to endure. Some stones even had flowers on them.

This review is for Salem Witch Trials Memorial which is located in Salem Massachusetts and a popular tourist attraction. The grounds at Salem Witch Trials Memorial are well-kept and the grave sites seem to be respected and cared for which is so much more then they pour accused who are buried there received in their final hours. Its beautiful, right in the middle of Salem. I loved the symbolism of the accused being separated from the rest of the cemetery by an iron gate. These good Puritans were put out of their church, the worst thing you could do to a Puritan, and iron wards off witches. Someone really thought about this. These are not the actual graves of the accused, just markers to memorialize them. It was nice, too, that other visitors were quiet and respectful in this area.

Incredibly solemn, respectful place of mourning. As you approach a hush falls over everyone. This is a place to think. A place to remember. It reminds us how volatile we can be, and how dangerous it is to be different. Cold stone benches that no one sits on out of reverence for the suffering endured. This is a place of sorrow and regret and hope that some day we will learn our lesson for the last time. Its a timeless monument to a timeless crime.
