In its entirety this is currently a homeless encampment. Parking and surrounding area filled with tents, RVs, and vehicles belonging to unhoused residents. Do not currently recommend for casual recreation. Instead, check your local non-profit groups helping the unhoused to learn how you can help.

I used to be homeless for a number of years, and I never lived the way the people are living here. I always stuck to myself, camped at legitimate campgrounds when i did set up camp, moved every few days, and never left a mess/trace. I respect the city for understanding that homelessness is the real epidemic, and not crimilizing it. Perhaps they should section off some city land and create a homeless camp the way other cities are- or maybe this is it. But as a tourist, we really wanted to enjoy this place, and decided against it after seeing it has been turned into a campground of mostly unsavory types. My thoughts and prayers are with those struggling with homelessness, especially the children!! I saw two young boys that look liked they lived in one of the tents, it broke my heart. I do not want to encourage the city to retaliate against those struggling, but instead come up with a solution that does not destroy their beautiful parks. God bless. Be safe out there.

I was blocked in by several cars and needed to be some where very soon. I called police because they wouldnt let me out. They started threatening me and my dog, the police wouldnt come out! First question was do I recognize the car, not are you okay! They get new police station and the protect and serve is left behind!!! Stay away from this park! Even the city of workers take our taxes for pay and just do a drive through! They also meet up to take breaks over the bridge where tax payers arent allowed!!! That is messed up!! Basically the city of salem have become horrible thiefs, the still our taxes and insult tax payers

Could be a really great spot, but the dog park isnt finished, and the place had gone into disrepair since the homeless population has moved in. Used to be a nice place to take the kids, bbq, and feed the ducks, but there too much trash, broken down vehicles and people doing things they shouldnt be doing in sight of families to spend any time there now. Very sad

Last time I was here there was human feces by the pond and it was so nasty, but that was awhile back. I know that it was cleaned out and the people cleaning it had tarps laid out and covered them in used thrown out needles! People are so disgusting! But it is a nice park other than those issues. Hopefully if people cant go anywhere else and live here just clean up after yourself and dont be nasty.

If you like to save money and enjoy some much needed entertainment this is the place. You can people watch for free and most of the time its better then going to a comedy show or watching a movie the characters here deserve an award never a dull moment . You can also enjoy fishing in the pond for bodys or 3 eyed, they also have a disk golf course. The creek is nice to cool off in just be careful where you get in at so you dont run into any homeless camps and across the bridge you got a couple parks for BBQ and the kiddos to play. I used to take my kids and have bday parties there as my parents did when I was young but since they closed down access to drive across the bridge theres no way Im parking and packing all the kids and everything that far and have to worry about my car . Not to mention you might want to have 4 WD for the parking lot its real bad in the winter .

There is a lot of homeless people that have made and sleeping in their cars that have broken down otherwise its a nice clean dog park its well-kept clean nice pond area to go fishing and for animals to splash around the only reason of the rating of one star is because of the homeless other than that its a good Park

This is a very beautiful place to take a walk, and even though the county is working very hard to clean it up by cutting out the brush and over grown bushes so that the homeless cant hide there; I still wouldnt suggest walking it alone, or at least with out a dog and some pepper spray, or some sort of protection! The water path though is remarkable for picture taking! Enjoy and be safe!

This could be a really cool park. It has a small lake and stream, big trees, nice lawns. But over half of the parking areas are blocked off, so it can be hard to find a parking space. The bathrooms have been closed for years and only Portapots are available. Many homeless have set up camps in the brush by the freeway, creating big piles of litter. I counted over 50 discarded shopping carts. The many ducks and geese are kinda cool, but they poop everywhere. Just like the homeless do.

Salem is a city blessed with many parks for its size, and they are extremely varied in size and character. Cascades Gateway, located on the eastern edge of the city, is almost flush up against busy Interstate 5, but you would never know it. The park, though not overly large, provides ample green space, walking trails, and -- best of all -- a small pond stocked with trout. It is a wonderful place to sit or walk peacefully, watch the ducks and geese, and, if you wish, try your luck with the fishing pole. Ample parking.

This park is not one I would go to alone. I come here with a group every weekend. There are homeless all over the park. Normally this wouldnt bother me but a lot of the homeless in this area seem to suffer from some sort of mental disorder that has them randomly burst out in anger and yell.I dont let my son out of my sight when we are here. We only continue to come to this park to enjoy the group we are part of.It has many large areas. Great for large gatherings. Two of these fields are near a playground. A great place to let the kids run around, if the whole park didnt have a sketchy feel to it. This park feels like it wants to be better quality. The playground looks safe and mostly updated. There is a covered area with a lot of tables and benches. There are horseshoe pits. As previously mentioned there is a full playground as well.
