This is really cool to see. I never knew that Rochester had a subway project at one time that crossed the Genesee River and went under buildings in town. The graffiti underneath is pretty cool to see and a little creepy at the same time. I would have liked to legally get down inside the tunnels to see where they go and understand how much of the subway there is to explore. I would also like to know what other history Rochester has to offer.Be careful of the people that are down there.
Not for the feint hearted or easily scared (lile.me), thats for sure. I didnt get very far down the tunnel because my bike light wasnt powerful enough and the flash on in my camera failed anyway. But this is an awesome piece of history that looks like something out of the movie 28 Days LaterNext time Ill bring a flashlight and a willing human being to hold my hand.
Cools really cool and super spooky but lots of construction going on so you cant explore the tunnels
Bring a very bright flashlight with you
Too bad that this is fenced off, severly limiting photo opps.
Calm place to chill and explore. Lots of artwork and graffiti
Barely got to see it. Just bits and parts but it was cool.
Such a cool place! If you are in the area, definitely add it to your must-see list!
This is one of the coolest places to check out in this town. The art is amazing . loved it spent over an hour here. Very cool pictures
There is a building over the first entrance that we went to and ended up walking 14 minutes down the road to the other entrance which was open. It was definitely worth it. Below are 2 photos showing the Google Earth view of the entrance next to the dinosaur bbq and the building that exits there now. The last photo is of the entrance we walked to that is still accessible.
Honestly for searching up things to do near me, Im glad this showed up. My friends and I went and bought one flashlight just for this experience. It was really cool and we didnt go to far. All the graffiti is either good art or just harmless stuff people tag. If you go with others, make sure everyone has their own flashlight. It is really dark in there and my group didnt make it to the end. For sure check it out if you have the time but be wary of rocks and garbage on the ground. There is also sometimes water that drips from the ceiling. Overall one of a kind experience.
So my girlfriend and I did this today. She came dressed like a powderpuff girl. We entered behind dinosaur which is still accessible. We walked through admiring all the cool artwork that’s down there. After the aqueduct we entered into the darkness with nothing more than a couple small flashlights. The artwork does die off a little through the abyss. One thing we did notice is there is and abundance of let’s just call it “men’s genitalia” artwork in the darkness. Hahaha. So we kept saying “ okay let’s go a little further” next thing you know we were at the other end behind Tahoe’s! We got there before we knew it. So now the fun part. As we entered back into the dark she says” how far can we make it with no flashlights” so off we went. It’s interesting how your eyes do adjust. There are sewer drains approx every 1000 feet or so that adds a tiny bit of light ( trust me not much) just enough to add a little bearing. So we made it about 3/4 of the way back in total darkness until I bumped into a steel column. We switched the flashlight on for 30 seconds while standing there just to see what happened. And off the light went and we finished the rest of the tunnel in darkness!! It was actually a pretty cool experience. We also did not see a another single person the entire time either way through. Was an awesome place for a memorable date!
IT IS PITCH BLACK. We went down the first day and realized we need way better lights than our phones! You need a really powerful light to really feel okay down there. We went back the second day with lithium lights and it made the experience alot better! Easier to see the art too! We entered at broad Street and walk all the way to where the blue Cross bridge is. I suggest doing that because its really the only accessible entrance. First 100 feet is real creepy but its very interesting down there. If your scared of the unknown dont go down there cause its like that the whole walk lol.
Beautiful graffiti and artwork, but be careful of the people down there. Also the homes of multiple homeless people.
We had a great time. It can be scary in the tunnel bc you cant see. Suggested definitely bring a flash light the phone doesnt cut it lol
Had climbed down there many years ago before it became a tourist attraction, before the only way to get down was to climb down. Being on crutches I guess I wont be able.
A local treasure. The subway sports some of the best graffiti art in town, and has all the mystery of a haunted house.
I went on community outreach people live down there
Keen$ter Rocks it every time!
Never been down there, Im not that brave.
It seemed like a cool place but I could not get to it because the city closed it down
Fun to walk around Rochester, and the raging river. Lots of sloppy over-tags.
Nice park. The statues are beautiful!
This is not necessarily a tourist attraction tion. Its kinda hard to find if you are unfamiliar with the area. There was lots of garbage and junk left behind from what I assume to be homeless people. You need a flashlight. I wouldnt advice bringing kids or not bringing pepper spray. Seems like the ideal place to get mugged.
Good place to tag up building
Visited this site as a part of a scavenger hunt. My team won of course.
Love the artwork painting on the walls
One of the coolest hidden, back-alley, underground gems in Rochester. The Abandoned Subway! Truly an adventurous photographers/artists/graffiti artists dream! Some amazing graffiti down there by some awesome talent! Check it out if you are in the Rochester, NY area!!!
Very cool, but I was at Nick Tahous.
I think I went into the wrong entrance. It was terrifyingly dark and I dont know, if I had kept going, that I might have seen what the google pictures show or not. Do your research before checking out this spot because I was too scared to continue haha. The scare factor is there so Ill give it a 5 star rating for interesting!
No subways ever came to pick us up.
First place I went to like thstv
I visited in October of 2016 it was beautiful! Then about a month ago (Mid May 2017) I went to visit again and it was under construction. It looked like they were tearing it down. You couldnt even park in the parking area you could only walk left on the trail that goes next to the river. There was no way you were getting near the subway tunnels from near Dinosaur BBQ.Veryyyy disappointed!!!!
Fun place to explore
This place was awesome and scary at the same time! Loved it. May take a minute of wandering around before you find it if you are not familiar with the area.
Such an amazing piece of ROC history. Its too bad that its so damn scary to be down there sometimes. There have been times we have gone down and there are strung out guys who are so high they cant even walk, and other times its quiet as a mouse. You want to see something like this stay around but for the right reasons.
Great at all over the walls but you need to wear a mask
Was awesome to go down there and explore something that I didnt even know existed
Wood love to go more
Creppy strange and fun art to be found. sometimes drugs too!
Dark most of the walk but kinda cool
Diffrent
Great
A piece of history
Spooky
Hard to find entrance
Great for pictures and exploring
