One of the most beautiful and underrated monuments in Richmond, it was serene in nature. I was there as part of a statewide scavenger hunt, and the docent came out to meet me on the grounds in order to tell me the history of not only the museum, but also of the monument and the significance of it. Fantastic experience all the way through, and I look forward to going back to tour the rest of the museum.

Pulling up you realize this venue has a great setting overlooking both the river and the city skyline. Walking around the outside youll see a great monument with the names of fallen Virginia veterans and an outdoor amphitheater with a scenic backdrop. Inside is a totally revamped museum and multi purpose facility constantly being refreshed with new exhibits and hosting many events to honor Virginias involvement in military history. The staff is there because this is a passion of theirs and it shows. A must visit for any veteran in the area!

Absolutely beautiful memorial! They did such an excellent job creating this place. Inside is a little museum full of collections of uniforms and weapons from the different wars. They also have videos available of interviews of veterans from Virginia from each war. Best part was the 3D photographs. They were stunning my kids really enjoyed their visit.

The staff here are top notch and extremely knowledgeable and dedicated people. First class. The exhibits are very well done and detailed with plenty of regalia to enjoy. The outdoor wall and plaques are a sobering reminder of our history. Very well maintained and recently renovated.

Grand, but peaceful. Names are easy to find if you know what county they come from.Only issue is that the glass panels are a little dirty (unavoidable given that it is outdoors), obscuring some details.

We got married here in the fall and it was the PERFECT venue!!! We fell in love with the views of the city and of the river - its one of the only venues in Richmond that you get both. Our guests also thought the venue was beautiful and unique. We also were very impressed with the staff. The main coordinator - Kate - was a dream to work with. She was super flexible and accommodating to our needs/wants and she always made sure we were happy. We cannot say enough great things about our experience getting married here and we cannot imagine our day at any other venue!! Thanks Virginia War Memorial!!photo credit: Afterglow creative

This is an awesome venue! The board of directors and staff have put much thought into best practices for commemorating the women and men who have shaped our world through their efforts in war. There is much educational material and the product is insightful. I love learning from the past so that we can progress into a brighter, stronger, more engaging future. I recently attended a premiere showing of the gap between Saigon to Panama, and then Desert Storm. The USA is on a much better path when viewed through the lense of the VA War Memorial. I am very proud to be an American. Please stop by this place and ask lots of questions and join the society to preserve our history and honor our heros.

Eye-catching and beautiful memorial set in a tranquil environment. Like all war memorials, the main attraction is a shrine with the names of Virginians who served between World War II and the present. There is a small museum as well with relevant exhibits. The place is staffed by friendly veterans. One of them gave us a tour to explain what’s on display and share some of the more noteworthy stories of those who have served. The outdoor space offers scenic views of downtown Richmond. Free admission and parking.

Being in a true shrine to those that gave everything is always an emotional experience.Being a native Virginian and having grown up and lived here my entire life its very moving to see all the names etching into the stone and glass walls of the outer walkway! The interior has fantastic galleries, although, if you look close enough, youll find a few missteps with regard to labelling.

My husband and I recently got married here. It was the perfect venue to celebrate our new life together while honoring those who have sacrificed so much for our freedoms. The staff was simply amazing. Our event coordinator Kate Belleman could not have been any better. Despite the venue still undergoing some construction, VAWM did everything they could to make our event special and beautiful. I highly recommend holding your events at places such as the Virginia War Memorial and other museums. Your money is certainly well spent supporting our Veterans. Thank you again for making our wedding day perfect!

This is a really neat memorial with a theater and museum. Its free, so dont forget to donate using the box at the entrance. The wax figures in the glass casings are perfection - you can even see the dirt under their nails. Great job to the artist. So lifelike. If youre out and about near the river, take a half hour or 20 minutes to stop in. The whole memorial is beautifully done.

This museum has so much to offer but many folks simply bypass the beautiful sculpture and never venture in. They are working on a large-scale expansion including a much needed parking lot, but you may use the VHDA parking lot and walk over. Known for its haunting sculpture which has a backdrop of the name of veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice in the many conflicts of our countrys short history, it is also a great resource and a great place for reflection.

Very impressive for its size! Theyre expanding so theres even more to come, but make some time to visit and reflect. Research possibilities are endless; looks like Jim and Morgan are on a mission. They have a unique layout that commemorates fallen Virginians by name, county and more recently in significant detail including color photo. Their program included meeting WWII vets when I was there - one Allied and one Axis and thats something you dont get to experience every day. Bottom line: Ill be back!

Loved the facility however the docent ruined the trip with his trashing of women in the military, gays one the military and John Kerry. My daughter knows that I went to war to protect not just the things I believe in however after listening to this guy express her opinion she questioned everything. My niece died in the war on terror and this idiot tried to take away my families pride in her sacrifices. When I went to war a friend told me he was gay, my response was that it did not matter as long as he had my back, he did. And even though some idiots made John Kerry sound like a traitor, the guy was a highly decorated war hero as far as many people are concerned.

I stopped by on a bit of whim looking to kill time, and I must say I am really glad I did. It is very well done, lots of fun military nostalgia, but most importantly very nice tribute to those who sacrificed so I i could drive around and visit places like this on whim. On of the staff Wilton Curtis was awesome! He checked in with me on my wanderings and gave me some great background on all the material as well as conveying some of his life experiences as an Air Force type. We as Americans dont take the time to give a little of our time to learn about those who gave ALL of their time to us...it is the least we can do.
