Thank you Ethan for all the information you shared with us! We are so glad we have done this tour! If you are in area this gem is a must to see. What a trip to the past! My 8 and 9 year old didn’t breathe the whole 45 minutes. Cant wait to be back in the spring.
This unpretentious looking house serves up a fabulous tour. The tour guides know an incredible about about John Marshall and his time here from the 1780s until his death. At least half of the objects in the home are original to the family and the house. It is amazing to be so up close to the very items that this famous family lived in day and night. I would heartily recommend this tour if you have any history in our country, the constitution or the Supreme Court. Marshalls rulings changed the way the Supreme Court worked and established it as an equal third branch of the government.
The John Marshall house is structurally the same house from when it was originally built in the 1700’s. The History Guides here at this house have a plethora of knowledge that they share with each tour. The History Guides will ensure that all your questions are answered with the correct questions. If you are in the Richmond area I recommend that you stop by this House to learn more information about John Marshall and all the things that he did for the United States.
Very nice historical home right in the heart of downtown Richmond. The house contains many detailed and informative pieces about John Marshall, his life and career, as well information about the periods in which he lived and was chief justice of the Supreme Court. There is a nice garden in the rear to sit and enjoy the grounds. Its directly across the street from city hall.
How did I grow up in Richmond and not come to this! Awesome home in great shape with knowledgeable guides! Parking can be hard, it is worth it. The home is mostly original and has many original furnishings.
Im sorry not being handicap accessible is not a reason to leave a bad review for a historical building. They are literally unable to alter the building to be accommodating.
I only saw the outside of house but its beautiful and serene with a gorgeous garden.
Guide, James, was friendly and well informed. Learned a lot of interesting facts. A good portion of furniture is original to the house. Very good gift shop.
Cool historical spot in Richmond. Easily walkable from other sights near the capital.
Good history site to understand where we as Americans came from. How how our country came to be. Not wheelchair accessible though due to the age of the house.
Excellent informational tour of John Marshalls home. The furnishings include some family pieces, and also original correspondence from famous men of history.
Excellent tour! Tour guide was very knowledgeable and gave numerous examples of John Marshalls 34 year career as Chief Justice. Loved the orginal furnishings in the home. Very glad they have preserved this home with its history.
A great tribute to one of our most under-appreciated Founding Fathers. Definitely worth a visit!
The place to go to learn more about this early legislator. Friendly curators and gift shop staff. Check out the membership which allows entry to several other locations including Patrick Henrys Scotchtown in Hanover. Parking can be a challenge in downtown Richmond so weekday travelers be aware. Scotchtown, no worries, plenty of parking.
Nice for small group tours. Not handicap accessible if use wheelchair or cant handle stairs. Sit outside on benches if cant go with your group. Entry fee about $10. Street parking. Open on weekends. Gift shop good size.
Admission high considering the length of the tour however worth it if you are history buffs like we are. Period furniture was mostly original to the house and guide was very knowledgeable to the history of John Marshall. Not as elegant as Jefferson Davis headquarters so you may want to go here first as you may feel a bit let down if you finish here.
The guides were awesome and knowledgeable. You could tell they enjoyed telling the stories. Another nice piece of history in the heart of Richmond. Hope people dont overlook it!
A very knowledgeable guide. Great history.
We were lucky to have James as our guide. He was friendly and a true expert. We learned of interested things about John Marshall and the area in general. We all enjoy the tour and were amazed that a lot of furniture is original.
Very well done tour of the house. Much more interesting than I expected. Nice gift shop in the basement. Cute outside garden.
Sarah was a great tour guide! So enthusiastic and kind to my kids.
This is a hidden gem in Richmond! Beautiful furnishings, many which are original. The tour guide was excellent! If you enjoy history, this should be at the top of your list in Richmond!
A nice slice of history. Good book shop. Interesting house.
Excellent old house, interesting narration. Probably more interesting to a history buff. I attended John Marshall High School.
Super cool little house. I love RVA! Me and a friend couldnt resist stopping to take pics in the money on the lawn! Awesome memory!
The John Marshall is exquisite hotels that takes you back in time
Loved everything from the garden to the upstairs. The tour guide was so knowledgeable on every aspect of the family.
