Awkward but very beautiful spot especially at sunset. Great picture taking opportunity. Love the history, look it up.

Somewhat hidden spot near Shockoe Slip and Browns Island. Super historic in that this is the approximate area that Christopher Newport sailed up the James River while on the Jamestown expedition (yes, THAT one in 1607 with John Smith). Getting to the Fall Line and not being able to get much further, Newport supposedly put a cross in, met some Indians and traded before going back down river to Jamestown. Also, he claimed the area for England (of course) and later on, the site became Richmond. Now you can rent a Segway and tour the area which is a very nice park with cool murals and a hip urban vibe!!!

Its a big cross installed by Christopher Newport. Its big, its foreboding, its historical. It cant really control its own quality, so 5 stars it is.
