Better than no park at all I guess, but this place is a dump and it has been this way for years. The park is on a slant so you cant really play any sort of games or fetch with your dog as the ball just rolls to the bottom fence. The area is mostly dirt with a few scraps of grass, and is abundant with rocks, glass shards, and other debris. the latch to the gate is always broken, and the water hose is usually leaking or left on so it turns the dirt into a giant mud pit.
2 large fenced in areas for dogs of all sizes to run around. Both yards have dog pools, dog dishes, covered seating areas for humans, and a hose. The big yard often has some old toy remnants and is pretty rocky though. All maintenance is done by a volunteer team, so you cant expect perfection, but the gates are in need of some repair. No risk your dogs will get out though.
Honestly, I am not bringing my dogs back here. There was broken glass everywhere including inside the dog area. I started to walk around the field and just saw glass every step I took. The water bowls looked like they were getting rusty and had algae growing inside. The only good thing I can say about this place was the 2 nice dogs that were friendly and sweet. In my head, I’m thinking maybe COVID-19 is having some effect on the maintenance of this place.
A good sized field that’s fenced in well enough but it’s pretty run down - latch on the gate was broken but someone left a bungee cable so it still worked. There’s a dog trash can that desperately needed to be taken out but it was nice that it’s there. Also had a faucet and a few dog bowls for water so that was a plus
Maybe I just had bad timing, but I brought my 6 month old pup here for the first time tonight and another dog got aggressive with him almost as soon as it arrived. The owners apologized, but didn’t leave. Then that dog went on to be aggressive with 3-4 more dogs. As I was leaving, I saw it bite a dog as that dog was entering. This couple and their dogs were there alone (because everyone left) for about 20 minutes or more. I don’t know why they didn’t leave after their dog kept being so aggressive. This was my first and probably my last time at this dog park.
Big dog park, with hardly anyone ever there - if you’re looking for a less busy place to play with your furry friend. Biggest flaw, and probably the reason no one is ever there: it’s a giant mud pit. It seems no matter the time of year, this park is always muddy (probably cause it’s at the bottom of the hill). They have a hose available so you can spray your dog down after a romp through the swamp, but still it’s kind of annoying. The park is kind of hidden in terms of location; it’s on the backside of the hill of Chimborazo Park (look for the yellow building and it’s behind that) - the “Churchill” name is somewhat misleading. The privacy is great, but not sure the mud pit is worth it.
Nice place to take your dog. Responsible owners, friendly dogs. Theres two sides of the park, small and large.
Love it! I have been to several of the dog parks in the area and this one is one of the best. Everyone is friendly, there is shade and water available for the dogs. There is a little pool also for the dogs to play in. I have never had a problem here. The only downside is there is a little walk/hill to get to the park but it is well worth it, just be warned if you have trouble walking this might not be the park for you.
Nice location, I prefer to keep my dog outside the corral though where theres grass and shade. The corral is basically just dirt, rocks, little bits of glass here and there, and no shade. They do have hoses with running water, and a dog pool, which is nice in the summer.
I visited here several times. It is also a great place to relax away from home where it is quiet.
Really awesome area. Absolutely beautiful--definitely worth walking around and coming to visit this place even if you dont have a dog. Unfortunately in the big dog section, the water was turned off when I visited and we had to go to the little dog part..of which the hose was broken. There also werent poop bags. if the water situation is fixed, then its a great park.
Nice place to take your dogs. They have to very nice sized pens for your dog to run around freely and play with the toys they have there or play with other dogs that are there. They have a pen for big dogs and a pen for small dogs. My dog loves going to the dog park, he gets excited when we pull up and realizes we are at the dog park!!
Suuuucks. Hate dog parks. This one is the worst. Prove me wrong. The surrounding park however is bar none the best place to run a good dog that responds to commands
Nice enclosed spaces for both large and smaller dogs, although the small dog areas tends to become muddy. Friendly socialized pets, accompanied by friendly socialized humans who for the most part are accepting of instinctive canine behavior.
The weather was perfect,so many different breeds of dogs and friendly people. I really enjoyed myself even though i had to work it (RMC) my co workers was the best and my manager Marl was awesome
Beautiful location
Great place to let your dog out and get some extra size
Great park! People are always nice, my dog always has fun. Its a little dusty, but thats to be expected. There are two pens, one presumably for the big dogs and one for smaller dogs. Theyve got running water and pools for the pups in the summer time. Really cool location too! Lots of space around the park to hang out with your dog.
You got to climb down a hill, walk through two broken fence gates, and then you enter the main side of the dog park. Sure there is some water and shade, but most of the park is a barren field of dirt and rocks. This dog park is probably best for dogs in NASAs astronaut training program.
I wouldnt call it a dog park lol I thought it was like a horse stable or something. But all-in-all its a big fenced-in area for pups to run around in so five stars for that..
Amazing spot for the pup to stretch their legs
Beautiful location. The doggy bags and grounds arent kept up as well as they could be.
Churchill yards do not often offer snow sledding advantages, so Im so glad for this dog park, it has a relatively safe but Steep Hill that is perfect for my five year old during snow... I will be returning here as often as I can for its wonderful curves. Ive heard good things about the actual dog park as well
What a lovely space. There are two huge sections for doggos; one for more social pips and one for any guys. There is also a tub/pool that is easily cleaned out and a hose is easily accessed to add fresh water.
Great dog park for Church Hill residents and others. It features a large and small dog section as well as nearby walking paths. The gate could use a little work, so make sure it latches as you enter.
More like two corrals for dogs.
It stays pretty quiet and its tame when compared to Barker field in the museum district. The locals and their dogs all seem very friendly. It stays pretty clean but I would feel a little more secure of the gates were patched up a little better. Ive seen clever dogs sneak through the back gate which isnt closed off very well. The small side has a nice little pool you can wash your pup off in. There are always a few toys around.
This dog park is alright, but it needs some attention. The gates to get inside the dog park are both broken and have been for 5 months. The park is also built at the bottom of a hill and it’s mostly dirt, so anytime it rains, you’ll want to wait several days before thinking about going to avoid the mud. But any place where you can let your dog off the leash and run around with others is always a good time!
Green and beautiful, it features 2 runs: one for large dogs and one for small dogs. There is a covered area with a table to keep the owners in the shade and a hose to fill water bowls provided. Very well kept and no poop to be found. There is a station to grab a waste bag. A great place for your furry friend and you...make some new ones!
Great off leash park for dogs
Large space for the dogs to run and play. Its not ideal for anyone with a walking disability though as it is down a steep hill or some steps.
The dog park is in great condition!
Better to walk around the park than go into the fenced in dog area.
Nice dog park. Mostly dirt though so if it has recently rained there is a good chance the park is a mud pit
Has two parks one for large dogs one for small dogs. Its on a hill side so a bit of a unbalanced terrain and the large dog park has minimal grass. The people and dogs were super friendly and we had a great time.
I love this park! Its probably the best in the city. Puppy swimming pools, a water source and SHADE are all provided at this beautiful park! I had 4 pups with me there yesterday and we had a great time!
This is a decent sized dog park, does have some debris from broken toys all over though. Not the busiest place but every dog owner was nice
Wish there was more grass in the fence and less glass but the community of dogs and owners is great. A wonderful city amenity!
Large area. I have yet to see other people a d dogs here but fingers crossed. Beautiful views and large area, look for the stairs near the entrance before trying to climb down the hill....I learned the hard way!
Lots of broken glass inside the dog area.
Its a fine park, but it needs some tlc. I wish theyd close half of it at a time in order to grow some grass and clean up the rocks.
This dog park is just okay. There isnt a lot of shade or anything, but the worst part was that there was apparently a lot of broken glass on the ground near the back corner (away from the entrance). The grass had not been cut in a long time. And the entrance door looked a bit mangled and sharp metal edges protruded out all over. It is a solid option for your pup to play, but just watch your dog very closely.
Its really convenient to the Church Hill and Shockoe area but youll find glass in some spots of the park and its overgrown and not well maintained in others.
Its a little ruff and could use some love. However, there are still a decent amount people who visit with their dogs. My dog, Kali, loves the place none the less.
Dogs had a ball! Clean beautiful & scenic
Very nice park. In the middle of Church Hill. My dog had a great time there. I mean, what do dogs want? Run and be free. That is all they need. A park is a park and as long as the park is safe, i am good
Nice open fenced in area has dog pool .nice people
Beautiful place with views. Lots of land for dogs to run around. Will be back
Poorly maintained with broken entrance gate and fencing turning to dust. The park is a few patches of grass dominated by hard and super rocky terrain. There is also a considerable amount of broken glass on the walking path! This park tends some real TLC from the city!!!
Two Fenced in areas, Small/Large dog. Always clean kinda rocky but nothing majoy. Seating areas are always clean Hoses and water bowls for pups are provided.
Nasty run down place. Low fences with broken posts. Trash & broken glass everywhere.
Really good to have a place where my new rescue dog can spread his legs and make friends!
Great place for dogs and people to enjoy the outdoors
Remote dog park. Mostly safe. Some illegal activity during off hours in the park but not the dog park.
Worms.
Nice scenery and atmosphere.
I took my grandson to the park to play
My dog love it
He enjoyed its clean
Simple, bark works
Its was a nice place
The park itself was nice but theres broken glass bottles walking down to it that could hurt my dogs feet. Some of the fencing could use some repairs.
Not a lot of grass. But great for dogs to get along.
Just a quiet beautiful place to take my dog
Community supported. Good place to socialize your dog in a park like setting.
Its a nice place. The Cobble path way on east end needs to be cleared.
Not very busy usually, it is nice for its location but often there are not many other dogs to play with. If your dog gets overwhelmed at other parks I reccomend this one but if you want more company ride over to Barker Field.
My dog really likes this place.
Great place for your dogs to run
The small dog side is wonderful!
Nice place to walk
Come here about once a month. Not too shabby of a dog park.
Family history here !
It was terrible
Never crowded. my dogs have never said anything negative about their experiences at bark park.
He loved it
Very clean and dog friendly!
Needs to be cleaned up.
There were doggos
Its peaceful
Empty
Nice place for dogs!
Its quite .
Best dog park in the city!!!
Appears to be abandoned. Equipment is falling apart and Ive yet to see another owner here.
