Located along the James River in downtown Richmond Virginia. The Canal Walk is surrounded by beautiful views of the James River and the city. Two islands are accessible from the Canal Walk. Browns Island and Belle Isle. Browns Island is grass and sidewalk covered and great for public outdoor events and concerts. Belle Isle is tree covered, surrounded by large boulders, with the James River flowing around and over the rocky terrain that encircles it. A wide walking and biking trail follows the river around the island in a circle. Belle Isle is accessible by a footbridge that is a short walk from Browns Island. A sure bet for an enjoyable outdoor adventure for friends, family, or anyone. A+

Really great place to get walking in.. walk it to the pipeline bridge and visit Brown Island pedestrian bridge near by. If youre up for it go to the Belle Isle pedestrian bridge too. All are right there together and great walks

With the general dearth of nature sites around Richmond proper this Canal Walk is a true wonder to behold. Stretching far along the waterfront and with numerous entrances and different settings/sites/environments it features the natural beauty of the James River area with a lot of the varied history that has taken place around here. It gives you a great view of the canal and the river as well as much of downtown - it also connects into a very large region of trails and paths. A wonderful nature area to enjoy and explore!

We discovered the Canal Walk going to and from the folk festival. It was a delight and pleasurable walk. Lots to look at and take in from the natural setting to free form art work and graffiti. Great for walking or bike riding. I will say, having walked it at night, that most of the lights were out, which doesnt compliment the rest of the walk.

Playground is nice, but its a bit of a workout navigating the rest of the park.

It was extremely well taken care of absolutely no trash anywhere. Also it was extremely well lit up so we can see, and with multiple options of places to sit down and enjoy the beauty. And that I was extremely impressed by the artwork that was done to a few of the tunnels that you have to walk through.

Took a little bit to find this using GPS but once we found it, it was amazing. Wish it wasnt raining so we could have spent more time exploring but will definately be back.

Its one of my husbands and my favorite places to visit in downtown Richmond! The path is clean and its a relaxing walk next to the canal. There are many great restaurants where you can stop grab a bite to eat along the way.

My first time walking this tour. Between the mix of architecture, especially in the banking district and the natural beauty of the river and forestry at play, makes for an awe inspiring scenic tour.

I lived here for years! Why have I never taken this walk?! I moved out of state a decade+ ago only to visit over the 2018 winter holidays and find this gem. Its a wonderful activity to do with family and friends. The sights are beautiful. Along the canal there are historical landmarks, rock climbing, biking/walking trails, photography ops, and fresh air. Its a clean walk and was very fun with my family. We had a two year old with us too and it was a great sensory experience for him.

The Canal Walk is a nice little stretch through the city of Richmond. It connects Shockoe Bottom (around 14th-16th St) to the James River (around Browns Island). It is great path for a jog or for a leisurely scenic walk. Plus, there are plenty of places nearby to grab a bite if that is what you are looking for.
