Grew up here. Its much nicer now then it was then! Updated a few years ago improvements done. However, north side of the river (Dock Street) has a completely renovated Waterfront railings, benches, grass, parking areas lots of fun if you like to fish! You just got to know when and where to go!
Cool place to visit but not for the history. We visited to check out the slave trail. Not really much to see in the way of the history of it all outside of a few posts that marked the trail and a few informational signs here and there. But the area is pretty scenic and the actual trail was fine. There is also a boat landing and lots of places for fishing ..
Nice hike on a cold day, but on a warmer day the smell might be off putting from the nearby sewage treatment plant (hence the nickname the poop loop). Trails are definitely designed more for bikers than hikers, but they do have them designated so you’re not competing for trail space with the bikers & all of the trails get equal wear & tear.
Nice place to go for a walk or run. Good scenery safe and ample parking
Good place to fish or just watch the river. Huge parking lot, two actually, along with a big boat ramp. The slave trail and poop loop trails are also there.
Ive never been to Ancarrows Landing, but thought since they have a few trails to check it out. Well, beside the trail along the river with glimpses of Rocketts Landing, the only other designated trail is for bikes and not worth walking. My advice is to go in the other direction (downstream) and follow the Slave Trail. This is where it starts. With frequent pauses to read historically signs, it is well worth it. Especially, if you are not rushed and have the legs. Round trip around 7 mi.
Love fishing here! Benches and plenty of fish!
Peaceful and everyone was friendly. nice place to hang out at
Great place to enjoy the fine fishing in the metro. Very family friendly.
Nice place for fishing, especially American Shad, white perch and bass.
Nice little park off the beaten path right up against the James River. Great walking trails including the end of the historic Richmond slave trial. Plenty of parking and never too busy.
Just love being at the water. Its so relaxing
Nice river side park, decent boat launch, nice trails.
Peaceful and serene, but slightly dirty. Too much litter for whats supposed to be a special place.
Historic Landmark, through untold history
The mountain biking trail is great for beginners, and a good workout for more experienced riders. There is no elevation gain (or loss), so you need to constantly pedal. Rainwater tends to stay for long periods in deep puddles making washouts common. That being said, I usually add this loop to my route as a warm up or a cool down before connecting to/from Buttermilk and North Bank.
Excellent fishing spot.
Quiet and Relaxing. Every once in a while youll get a swift of good smelling cookery from the Boathouse.
Beautiful place on James river
Great time canoeing
There is no elevation gain (or loss), so you need to constantly pedal. Rainwater tends to stay for long periods in deep puddles making washouts common.Nice place needs a little bit of daily cleaning and path clearing but it is the middle of the hit summer so I kinda understand.
Smells like poop, but rather scenic.
Nice place needs a little bit of daily cleaning and path clearing but it is the middle of the hit summer so I kinda understand. Think it would be even nicer during cooler weather to visit. Watch out for the poison ivy
Good place for catfish
This place is beautiful. Wonderful place to go to if youre not in a good headspace. Youll completely forget why you were in a negative headspace to begin with.
Great views of the RVA skyline and James river
Great place to take my kid on a nature walk. It IS long, though.
Beautiful place to walk
Police and fishing sheriff told my family we couldnt fish
My quiet place....nature thinking and to rejuvenate!
Well kept but no place to put garbage? Over all is a really nice spot.
Good hitting catfish
White people stare when you read the slave trail placards but its nice
The river and the fishing the hiking trails the trees
Awesome spot on the James River right downtown with a boat ramp
I love this place. Bring a chair or a fishing pole...either way, enjoy!
Very nice and relaxing
Good fishing spot
Beautiful place to get quality time with my man!
Love the trails. Walked my dog Gizmo there many miles. I park at Forest Hill Park and we walk from there, cross Riverside Dr. and follow Buttermilk Trail to the 22nd St walk bridge over to the river and follow the trails to Belle Isle. We then follow the trails of Belle Isle and come back the same route. About 6 miles total. Trash along the trail and on the rocks and island - subtract two stars. Rude, aggressive mountain bikers who don’t seem to understand that the trails aren’t for their exclusive pleasure, who expect the walkers and hikers to stand aside so that they can blast their merry way through, whose tires reduce good paths to mudholes and destroy delicate root systems of the once abundant wild flowers - also cost two stars. I hope that the other walkers who often share these trails with will also file complaints. The trash is bad enough, but the selfish bikers are the worst..
Very fun, peaceful, chill place to come with your kids or friends to fish boat or take a hike. Or even just sit around & look at the view of the James River which is right at your feet or the beautiful skyline. Its open to the public 24hrs a day everyday. This spot is in my top 3 places when people ask me what is there to do in Richmond.
Nice place to go walking and nice fishing pear
Nice boat ramp
Peaceful
Just a nice walk. Looks like good fishing.
Ive been here 3 times in the past few years. The whole place has geese poop all over the grass/dirt. This wasnt as bad years ago. Visitors have done a pretty good job of throwing their trash in the many trash cans provided. Benches are good. The steep cliff for fishing is not good. Same with the plants growing on the wall, watch your line when pulling your lure out. Ive also not catch any fish.
Southside part of richmond. Great fishing and relaxing environment with mixed race coming out to welcome you and enjoy whoever thats out there for company. Love it when motorcycles go under the overpass and rev the engine...sounds awesome. Makes me forget about the fish lol
Only use the boat ramp each year for seasonal fishing. The improvements Ive seen over the years are truly amazing. A great asset for the boating public.
Be careful of siltation after heavy flows. Inspect or ask a local at the ramp if unsure.
Nice place to fish or just walk the trails....
Good place to fish
Relaxing place to chill with my Taco
The city has done much to improve this boat landing and park to make it somewhere friendlier to go. Parts of the slave trail are here which provides for some interesting (albeit sad) history. In the evenings youll find people there fishing. Worth a visit, but beware, the mosquitoes are vicious!
Made me cry seeing where and how black people were treated as cattle.
Nice and quiet, but watch out for the mosquitoes!
Peace and quiet and night fishing
Nice place to fish or chill.
Nice place to fish
Catfish nation.
I love sitting by the water and fishing!!! Peaceful place 2 just clear my mind.
Plenty of parking. Don’t leave valuables in the vehicles, busy place Access to the river, steep banks for fishing. Clear trails for mountain bikes and hiking.
Great park near the river not a busy as other public river settings for those who want to relax and nit be in a crowd.
The true crossroads of Richmond.
Plenty of parking. The ramp needs dredging and people need to stop throwing trash around the area.
Great Local Escape!!
Nice views of Rocketts Landing across the James River. Boat launch, fishing, and access to Richmonds Slavery Trail.
It was dirty
Lots of history here....good & bad.Beautiful views of Downtown RVA & Libbie Hill.
Its where the slaves where brought to America. Very sad place.
Shad perch and herrin are now running heavy. You also have the slave Trail to explore
Boat ramp unusable Richmond lost aLot of money this spring but they dont care
Good fishing
Great place to fish
This park was sketchy to the point of scary. It was covered with litter and hadn’t been mowed in weeks. There were plenty of trash receptacles but they were full. One was overflowing with garbage all around it. The only other visitors we saw were individuals hanging around or in their cars. Obviously neglected!
Glad to see the parking lot was changed up. Alot nicer and better to handle with trailers. Need to add kayak/canoe launch area. (Times they have and are a changin.)
This space has grown up a bit in the last few years. Strange to step up to it but the history notes are nice. Maybe not a place to visit alone if youre easily spooked, however.
Larger boats cant launch till the landing is dredged...filled in with silt and mud...
Great fishing
Whiff of chlorine from the rank outside the park and access road has horrible p i tholes, but the park itself has recently upgraded parking area and an appreciated portapotty. Great to see Richmonds other side.
Aka HARLEM View River
A great place to fish and have fun.
Great place for working class Richmonders
Good for fisherman not families, ok for dog walkers. No dangerous homeless people, but it is dirty and unkempt.
They have done a great job with this place
Nice place
Always crazy crowded. Pretty dirty, but its a spot to fish.
Good boat landing
Peaceful and nice river views.
Catfish look disgusting
This place is ok 4 kids.. Lots of grass to run in
Muddy ramp almost lost my truck and boat ....ozborne landing is for me...
Big fish
Just a pass through on a MTB ride. I see people fishing though, so its got that going for it.
Beautiful
Absolutely Beautiful!!!!!!A long time coming.
Great place to fish
