Grew up here. Its much nicer now then it was then! Updated a few years ago improvements done. However, north side of the river (Dock Street) has a completely renovated Waterfront railings, benches, grass, parking areas lots of fun if you like to fish! You just got to know when and where to go!

Cool place to visit but not for the history. We visited to check out the slave trail. Not really much to see in the way of the history of it all outside of a few posts that marked the trail and a few informational signs here and there. But the area is pretty scenic and the actual trail was fine. There is also a boat landing and lots of places for fishing ..

The water level is said to be around 12.6, Tuesday morning. I took these pictures around 4:15pm Tuesday. The damage to property and amount of debris is crazy. The fast pace of the river was just mind blowing, and dangerous... Please use caution when stopping and taking pictures.

Nice hike on a cold day, but on a warmer day the smell might be off putting from the nearby sewage treatment plant (hence the nickname the poop loop). Trails are definitely designed more for bikers than hikers, but they do have them designated so you’re not competing for trail space with the bikers & all of the trails get equal wear & tear.

Good place to fish or just watch the river. Huge parking lot, two actually, along with a big boat ramp. The slave trail and poop loop trails are also there.

Ive never been to Ancarrows Landing, but thought since they have a few trails to check it out. Well, beside the trail along the river with glimpses of Rocketts Landing, the only other designated trail is for bikes and not worth walking. My advice is to go in the other direction (downstream) and follow the Slave Trail. This is where it starts. With frequent pauses to read historically signs, it is well worth it. Especially, if you are not rushed and have the legs. Round trip around 7 mi.

The mountain biking trail is great for beginners, and a good workout for more experienced riders. There is no elevation gain (or loss), so you need to constantly pedal. Rainwater tends to stay for long periods in deep puddles making washouts common. That being said, I usually add this loop to my route as a warm up or a cool down before connecting to/from Buttermilk and North Bank.

Love the trails. Walked my dog Gizmo there many miles. I park at Forest Hill Park and we walk from there, cross Riverside Dr. and follow Buttermilk Trail to the 22nd St walk bridge over to the river and follow the trails to Belle Isle. We then follow the trails of Belle Isle and come back the same route. About 6 miles total. Trash along the trail and on the rocks and island - subtract two stars. Rude, aggressive mountain bikers who don’t seem to understand that the trails aren’t for their exclusive pleasure, who expect the walkers and hikers to stand aside so that they can blast their merry way through, whose tires reduce good paths to mudholes and destroy delicate root systems of the once abundant wild flowers - also cost two stars. I hope that the other walkers who often share these trails with will also file complaints. The trash is bad enough, but the selfish bikers are the worst..

Very fun, peaceful, chill place to come with your kids or friends to fish boat or take a hike. Or even just sit around & look at the view of the James River which is right at your feet or the beautiful skyline. Its open to the public 24hrs a day everyday. This spot is in my top 3 places when people ask me what is there to do in Richmond.

Ive been here 3 times in the past few years. The whole place has geese poop all over the grass/dirt. This wasnt as bad years ago. Visitors have done a pretty good job of throwing their trash in the many trash cans provided. Benches are good. The steep cliff for fishing is not good. Same with the plants growing on the wall, watch your line when pulling your lure out. Ive also not catch any fish.
