When I was growing up in Richmond my dad would bring us to Capitol Square and we would play under the giant magnolia trees. Very important part of Richmond to visit. I really love the renovation that they have done, this was the first time I have seen it. Fantastic place for a stroll!

Possibly one of the best states capitols in the United States. The building itself is a testament to a founding nation and was the mindset of one Thomas Jefferson. It sits on top of the city and is surrounded by many awesome monuments to important figures who helped create the USA. Well kept by staff and a walk around the square will take one back in history.

Took a stroll through the Capitol of Virginia. Fantastic architectural details which was reminiscent of a mini version of the White House. The statute and the fountain were perfect additions to the Capitol. The surrounding Federal Buildings were a nice complement to Capitol Square.

Paid a visit to the Capital to see the new Virginian womens monument - Voices From the Garden. Though still in progress, the 7 of 12 planned statues are very expertly crafted and worth the trip to see. Surprisingly diminutive in size, the statues are realistically crafted and pleasantly life size. The memorial lacks information and context at this time. There are no plaques nor hint of who the women are. So its necessary to Google and learn who the figures are and whos to come. Not really a problem. All the more reason to pause and enjoy.

Beautiful spot to walk, sit, enjoy a meal and absorb some history. I work nearby and walk here at least twice per week. The flowers are worth the visit, and they change with the seasons. I love the tulips, daffodils, dogwood, etc. in the spring. The autumn flowers hang on until very late in the season. Tour of the Capitol is free, and the other monuments in the area are very interesting. The fountains add a really nice touch. My favorite is the old buildings, though. So much more character than the new glass and steel showing up everywhere.

We took the free tour of the Capitol on a Sunday when we had friends in town visiting. The tour provides a good mix of information about the architecture and history of the Capitol building - beginning with Thomas Jeffersons role in its creation. Also, how the construction of Virginias Capitol building influenced subsequent design choices in Washington, D.C. and government buildings throughout the country. The tour includes entry to the house chambers. We really enjoyed the tour and the expertise of our guide.

An incredible building and beautiful park around it. There is a lot of history here and too much to embrace in just one visit. The hill gives you an incredible vantage point on the surrounding area and the park is filled with historic monuments to Virginia’s history. The interior is of course the Capitol itself and has so much depth and surprises in this building by Thomas Jefferson’s design

Attended the unveiling of 7 of the 12 statues of women from Virginia history plus a wall of remembrance of over 200 names of women from Virginia history. My family and I were there in honor of Virginia Estelle Randolph, a renown educator from Henrico County VA. The dedication ceremonies were well-attended and well done. It was a beautiful day to recognize these women coming on the 100th Anniversary of the law permitting women to vote in the USA.

Our tour guide was AWESOME! He made the tour educational and entertaining we enjoyed sharing this experience with our homeschool youth and will be sure to followup with the African American experience so our students can have that perspective as well. I would definitely recommend this experience!! ( I caught this great pic as he joked with the kiddos to encourage their expansion of the meaning of the flag)

It was a bit bizarre to see a bunch of corn-holers throwing bags back and forth at boards, but the statuary and the perfect, Fall weather made for a memorable walkabout. Next time we will visit the interior of the historic building, but it was enough to have most of the Square mostly to ourselves that early Saturday.

The ground is solume and grand with beautiful statues and fountains etc. Lots of historical artifacts.Take off one star as my last visit ran into a crazy woman shouting racial slurs and cursing at us. There was no security staff on site and doesnt appear to be surveillance either. What a shame to have this sacred ground violated by individual acts.

Third time posting. Those who participated in the Second Amendment rally were gracious and incredibly well behaved. Virginia leadership made the Capitol Square unsafe with fencing bolted together and absolutely no planned exit putting thousands at risk. True free speech was put at risk on the Capitol Square during the rally.

Its a nice place to hang out for an hour or so, in the shade. Lots of park benches to relax on. Very little loose trash, everybody knows how to use the many trash cans. Its a nice place for snacking on whatever you bring. No fast food restaurants or restrooms, unfortunately. The nearest Starbucks is down the hill - along with the Shockoe restaurant district. The Square is closed at 23:00, so no hang out after the clubs close. But daytime and early eve theres always a few people there.
