The place is beautiful and sparkly clean. I went with four stars But if youre in a wheelchair its not the most accessible. There are elevators so thats a plus but the bathroom is made up of two hallways and they are small. I posted a picture of one side. The chairs are comfy but they re small. Bigger behinds and thighs beware. There is no way to get a wheelchair down to the seats in the balcony section so its the very back of the balcony or the lower level if youre wheelchair bound. Also something to watch out for if youre tall there is smallll leg room up in the grand tier I added a picture. All in all its a great place and like I said its kept super clean. Ive been to many shows here and will continue to come. This sounds like a bad review but its not I just want to give fair warning for possible troubles.

I like this venue very much. It has seats for handicap patrons. We purchased seats in the obstructed view area. I will post a photo from our seats. My daughter and I had a wonderful time! The Altria has been a part of the community for decades. They have an annual Broadway in Richmond bringing in blockbusters like Hamilton, Cats, and Wicked. Season tickets are very reasonable especially considering the individual costs plus you get the opportunity to buy other shows before they are eligible to the general public. Seats are a bit close together and little leg room. Probably better in the better seats. Absolutely worth going there.

Really beautiful venue. VCU parking garage across the street was a pretty good option. We had to wait a bit to get out but that’s kind of expected. Security was pretty easy to get through and the ushers were really helpful. We even got a brief history lesson of the building. Acoustics were fantastic and the view was great. $18 for two sodas and a cold popcorn was a bit steep, but it was still good.

We just saw Cats last night (Feb. 7, 2020) from the grand tier and although the building itself is gorgeous and the staff very nice, it is THE MOST UNCOMFORTABLE venue I have ever been in! Not only are the seats the tiniest ones I have ever sat in (more like, wedged my bottom into) the pitch, or lack thereof, has you looking directly at the back of the head of the person in front of you. For Cats, mostly a dance performance, having to constantly choose do I go left or right made it impossible to enjoy. So, with being wedged into seating and not being able to see the whole stage at once, it was impossible to simply relax and enjoy the experience that is the theater. Isnt this why we go to the theater? To relax and become immersed in the experience? Theater is to be enjoyed, not suffered through uncomfortably! I will NOT be returning to the Altria theater! Come on Richmond... we can do better than this!

The theatre is well maintained, the quality of the seating and stage seem to be top notch from all perspectives and the ushers made the experience very smooth and speedy. Very classy and open theater. Beautiful carpets and wallpaper and the cleanness was top notch. Sound is perfect. No 5 stars bc upstairs balcony seats are very tight and uncomfortable. My knees were touching the front seat and the person next to me was too close for my tastes. No room to even move to the beat of the music! However if u get a good deal its worth it and the place is very beautiful.

I love this venue. It is so classic. Ive seen many events here and generally love them all. The seats could use an upgrade, but they are not bad. Stay on the lower level or the front of the balcony; after the first 4 rows of the balcony the quality drops considerably. After the show, the traffic is not handled efficiently. This could be improved. Best advice, arrive early and park on the lower level. Level 2 and above will delay your exit by 15 to 20 minutes.

Hamilton was amazing. This rating is not for the show. We went 2 nights to see Hamilton. The first we sat in the orchestra area and the second in the center of the Grand Tier. This is not high quality seating in either section. While the building itself is beautifully decorated, there are some things to remember when purchasing tickets. The show experience was superior in the Grand Tier. The acoustics were amazing and it is an amazing view of the stage, lighting, set, etc. The problem is, I am 6 ft. tall and the leg room was non-existent. I found myself with bruised knees at the end of the 3 hour performance. In the orchestra section, the seating was more comfortable and there was more leg space, however, you sacrifice the best view of the stage and the best acoustics. I am sure there will be no major seating renovations at the Altria theatre in the near future, so this should be considered more informative than complaint. It is an older theatre that has been well maintained. Also, much respect is given to the quality of shows presented. The uncomfortableness is far outshined by the quality of the entertainment and the true theatrical experience. One other note: Eat before you go. The concessions are incredibly overpriced.

They need more volunteers to open the doors and help seat people. The seats are fairly low, so its hard to see past the head in front of you. As expected, the concessions are very pricey and you cant bring in any food or water of your own. It is lovely and very easy to get to. There is a very good parking lot next door, that takes less than 5 minutes to walk to you. My only complaint is that the Duck Donuts inside the theater does it have more options for flavors. Love that is no complaint about the theater itself. Also, the seating seems to be very good. It was hard to find a truly bad seed. I do wish it had a deeper incline so that you could more easily see over the heads of the people in front of you, but again, not a major problem.

Enjoyed a night of music recently at this venue. This place is absolutely gorgeous, but the staff add to the beauty. Everyone I encountered was professional, with an added touch of kindness. My husband and I had difficulty arranging our Lyft after the concert, and the staff encouraged us to wait inside until our vehicle was there to get us. The building was almost empty, and they didnt want us to go outside until they were sure we had transportation. You dont see this amount of caring in most public places. Thank you Altria Theatre! What a beautiful, majestic theater -- ambiance and all, including a terrific orchestra pit and sound system. We have seen several productions at the Altria -- most recently, Charlie and Chocolate Factory, The Play That Goes Wrong, and Hamilton -- and every production was wonderfully entertaining and very well executed. First time visiting the Altria to see Hamilton and we were pretty pleased with the venue. We sat in the front row of the Grand Tier in Section I and had a fair amount of legroom. Those tickets were obstructed view but we could see 95% of the stage. I didnt find a lot of reviews on seats when trying to pick so Ill share my two cents. Im 61 and was a little uncomfortable with the leg room in the Grand Tier, but to save some money I would definitely choose there again. The Balcony seats appear to be very tight. There were quite a lot of obstructed view seats available when I was hunting for tickets, which is due to the fact that the theater is not pitched very steep, so if youre deep in a section there will likely be a few heads that get in your way. Overall for the savings I would elect for the Grand Tier again if the Orchestra level was not feasible for me.The bathrooms were clean and large enough to handle the big crowds during intermission. The concession prices are crazy high but that wasnt really surprising. We look forward to going back.

I’ve been hear twice and both times have been in pain from not being able to sit properly. PLEASE, for the love of God, take a row of seats out and readjust this place. My wife and I were completely miserable. My other complaint is tickets! How is it that as soon as tickets go on sale, you can’t by front row or anywhere in orchestra for less than 160$!!!!???
