This place is AMAZING. I Dogtown is one of those places you would consider to be a staple in the Richmond Culture. On top of the great atmosphere it provides a safe home for students, teachers, and independent artists to do what they love. Be sure to check out the website to see all the classes offered! Brought my eight year old here to test out if he would like it. Turns out he loved it! The staff is super friendly and the instructors are very knowledgeable yet keep it super fun for the kids. We will be taking him back for sure! Plus this is cheaper than a basketball, soccer, etc....outside rec sport! So yay for all that!

This place was nice. Very clean. The play that we saw was on the second floor and we had to use the stairs. Im not sure if they have an elevator for the elderly and handicapped or not. Also, there didnt seem to be much parking. We parked across the street in the parking lot of the medical office bldg. We enjoyed the play and everyone was nice.

Took Julindas Be Moved class today and loved it. Great class for those looking to get movin without having any dance experience. Low impact, easy to follow steps...fun class!

The Jewel of Manchester in Richmond, Virginia, Dogtown Dance Theater presents modern and high-tech dance presentations in a clean and innovative space. Once a Junior High School Gym, the space has been renovated into a wonderful space to take the family for a dance concert.

The manager of the building Jess Burgess is very rude and disrespectful. booking with this company has been the worst experience ever. They dont return phone calls or emails unless you leave a bad review. And when she finally got back to me. After waiting 1 hour at her establishment to make a deposit payment, I was then threatened with the possibility of not being able to book, which in the long run ended up happening, and when i finally spoke to her on the phone about the refund check she provided me to see where i could go to get the funds. She made it very clear it was no longer her problem.worst place ever and as beautiful as the place is, the employees and manger are so not professional or nice

I went to the Mardi gras event last week. It was great. I thought I finally found a place to get back to my love for dancing and was psyched about taking classes. I came to a class on Wednesday and was told it was cancelled. I came to a different class the same week on Sat. Feb. 28th the doors were locked. Someone leaving the building told me THAT class was cancelled. This is rude and disrespectful people take time to get prepared and drive to this destination. Thing is, I contacted instructor ahead of time and he stated he would be there. I wont be trying to give this place any of my business. Get it together and the board of directors you really need to work on consistency with your staff. You dont deserve grant dollars if you cant deliver services as outlined in your prosposals. Absolutely ridiculous!

Great place for dance classes. Rudy and his team with Salsa Connections do a great job teaching Salsa and Bachata classes. Very friendly environment.

This is a beautiful space at which I saw a theatrical play. The history of the old school remains, but the shine of a new dance school is brighter. I havent attended any, but I know there are some swing dance classes with an open ballroom that its offered monthly. What a fun addition to the Richmond scene!

My Daughters love this place. We have only been twice but they wake up early on Saturday morning just to get ready for their dance class. Thank you Kevin

I enjoyed the show there today with my daughter seeing Karar dance perform circadian. Also enjoyed meeting the Artistic director Jes. She is delightful. I really want to take a class here soon.

Dogtown has a lot of meaning for my husband and I. We first met rehearsing for a dance show in the first floor studio at Dogtown. Nearly four years later, we got married in the theatre where we had our first performance together and had our first looks in the studio where we met. While this fact alone makes for an extremely sentimental wedding, it was the staff at Dogtown that truly made our wedding experience so memorable. Jess Burgess (artistic director) is amazing in so many ways - beautiful dancer, organized manager, easygoing and quick to communicate, and most importantly, caring, respectful, and hardworking. Her staff mirrors her qualities, making for a wonderful and personable crew at Dogtown. They set up for the wedding, ran our sound, lights, and music, helped flip the space between ceremony and reception, cleaned up afterward, accommodated every wish and demand as possible and were friendly and fun as well. Wedding week is one of the most stressful weeks for a bride and groom, but Jess made sure everything was taken care of to lessen the stress on us. She was such a pleasure to work with throughout the entire process - always responding to texts/emails, checking in, and always sending positive words of encouragement. If you’re looking for a wedding or event venue or just a place to take some awesome dance classes, Dogtown is the place. It is sometimes an overlooked gem in the community, but deserves the utmost respect for playing house to so many talented artists. Dogtown is like a second home for my husband and I and will always have a special place in our hearts - not just for the meaning, but because the staff went above and beyond to make our wedding as special as possible. I was just there to fix the roof this time but Ive been to it several times and it a cool place. Get out and get cultured you caveman.

Our experience with this company has been horrible. We booked 3 months in advance(August) for a model call for November 17th. Our Event coordinator followed up last week to ensure everything was okay. They responded back telling us we had to reschedule or give us a refund when we inquired why they stated they had the right to HelloDogtown reserves the right to cancel studio rentals to accommodate main stage events. We have a main stage event which takes precedent to studio rentals regardless of when they were booked. We can either reschedule or issue a refund. We apologize for the inconvenience.Best Regards,They also did not give us a notice of such a change until we reached out but when we tried to call there number no one answered (even from the time when we tried to book from the beginning no one would answer there phone)As a business owner this is the most unprofessional establishment we have ever worked with. We had to find a new place for our models as well as send out over a 100 e-mails apologizing for the inconvenience.

What a great variety of dance classes, and even some for free! Just need to catch up my dancing skills, went to the Saturday contemporary lets just say its nowhere near for beginners

Richmond dance theater not-for-profit. Dogtown Dance Theater is a bombshell of a studio that supports not only dancers and visual artists but those of spoken word, among others! A must visit for any Richmonder who is seeking a fresh look at art in our city and anyone else who wants to share their story or learn about what we in Richmond have to offer. Outstanding.

I really like what they have done to the building. Hadnt been in the area since they started gentrifying it.

Great local performing arts center. They offer weekly classes and also host an array of different style dance shows on weekends. The building used to be a small highschool and was converted into a theater, definitely worth visiting!! They also offer free modern dance classes on most weekends

Didnt go to dance theater but to haunted house staged there. Loved it!!! Very clever and different!!

The Dogtown Dance Project show, Progressions, was extremely well choreographed and performed. Highly recommended.

Alot of studio rooms and staff was great and helpful

Free classes. Amazing artists. The level is ahrd for me but I loved just breaking free, being amazed at those bodies and poses and elegance and then going home and feeling pain in parts of my body that I never knew existed but in a very happy way.

This is a terrific venue for rental as well as a performance venue and home to an abundance of dance classes. Hidden gem in the Manchester neighborhood and former junior high. Friendly staff, excellent classes for all types of body and skill. This is a must do on the Richmond scene.

For the past two years, my dance company has performed our season performance in this space and we have had a wonderful experience. We arrived to set up for the event and were able to set up risers and work with lighting. It is a great space to dance in - very large compared to our rehearsal space - and Rob was very helpful in executing a great event.

Ecclectic, versitile theatre in the heart of Manchester. This space can be converted into a myriad of different performance and event spaces. I married my wife here, I have performed in a few shows as well. Dogtown is home to more than a few dance companies and classes.
