Nice little tucked away beautiful 100 acre plot of history. The mansion and grounds have been returned to a gorgeous state and the interior of the Mansion is breathtaking. The outer grounds are full of animals and gardens and paths to wander along. Suggested donations of $5 to help with restoration but most of it is free and I spent a few hours with no problem. If you enjoy history then you should make a stop at Maymont.

SO worth a visit...free, but even at the suggested $5 donation it is great. Beautiful interior, guided tour of upstairs but go register early, as they only take 12 people in a group. Tours every 1/2 hour, 12:00-5:00. Downstairs is self guided about the domestic help. Visit the grounds too, Japanese Garden, Italian Garden, and animal enclosures.

Gorgeous!!! My family loved the home and our wonderful tour guide! Plan for the entire day out there with so much to see! Even my 4 year old had a challenge through the mansion that kept her attention going. Gorgeous things to see and the stories will really take toy back in time. Imagine yourself living here!! We live touring mansions and this one was one of the best yet!

Been coming to Maymont for 30 years now I get to take my little one. Today was world wildlife day so there was lessons on animals and feeding that made some of the more harder to see animals come out. Bobcat and the new red fox Finn. They also had things going on in the nature center today. Hands on. Very fun day.

Google didnt state the Mansion didnt have close parking, after Google maps kept us riding in circles I just via several park cars and then had to walk nearly 3 Miles to get to the Mansion. Several people besides us got there at 4:33 & we all misses the last tour. Maymont Park is well kept however have on some good walking shoes because everything is about 2.5 miles from each other. Just glad it was a beautiful day yesterday but was disappointing to my 10 year old daughter via Google did make the mansion more appealing than it was. Im only rating it a 3 via the park grounds where kept up nicely.

The area is around 100 acres, but plan to hike to enjoy everything it has to offer. Maymont has many amazing things to offer such as a petting zoo, butterfly garden, waterfalls, exotic flowers and trees everywhere, and of course, the mansion itself complete with a tour. Do everything you can and stay a while.

I did not get the chance to tour the mansion but the grounds are beautiful. The Japanese garden was my favorite, and would have never expected such an amazing site. Driving through the neighborhood I thought we were lost, but it sits at a dead end. This is a must especially if you dont mind walking and you are touring on a budget.

A hidden treasure of Richmond Virginia. The volunteers/staff here are so friendly and informative. There is a walking (lots of walking ) zoo with a few interesting exhibits. A Japanese garden, an Italian garden and just gardens everywhere. So lovely and delightful. Acres and acres of a wonderful walking paradise. Well kept and clean. Bring a lunch as there are only soda machines.

Toured the mansion on a school fieldtrip. It was a very informative tour thanks to our amazing interpreter. Loads of history learned about bot only the time period but also the family as well. Kids had a difficult time staying on the carpets that guide you through the rooms and help protect the original floors but they really enjoyed learning about the history.

For the area... it is nice and full of historical value. However, compared to other manors... it is small and a quick tour. But overall it is a nice piece of Virginia history for the value. If you like civil time period history and are in the area... I think its a good place to visit for the value.

Restoration seems to have been done with a lot of research. Interesting glimpse at how the landed gentry in the south lived a century ago. Also good depiction of what it took in the way of help to run such a household and the conditions those workers had to endure. Grounds and gardens are also beautiful.

We took the tour of the mansion, and loved it. During the Christmas time, the inside of the mansion is decked with era-appropriate decorations. The personal tour offered interesting insights into a leading family from the late Gilded Age. The tour was insightful, the decor extravagant, and well worth the time. We had fun. The recommended donation for the tour is $5 per person - which is what the cashier will tell you when you schedule the tour. And it’s worth that price. The parking and grounds are free, so why not support the effort to preserve and educate local history?

There are some neat things to see from the early 1900s but thats it. They tell you there is no charge to go in then they tell you you must check in with the cashier before you can go in who then tells you they DEPEND on your donation and suggested amounts they want from you. The next question is instantly how much do you want to donate? We asked how long is the tour? The response was as long as you make it. We then asked is there a lot to walk around and see and were told yes its quite extensive.Do not let them fool you.Its extremely small. Possibly 5 very small rooms where you can see some items from the early 1900s and listen to a few recorded recaps of what it was like to work there, and read a few facts. We went to every room read the facts and spent maybe 10 minutes from beginning to end. Unless you have a genuine interest in seeing old food cans and boxes, and some old alcohol save your suggested donation and go see another area of the park.

I took the tour of the mansion during a free weekend event about time traveling to the past. I really appreciate the amount of history contained in the site. It was slightly disappointing that most of the items in the house were not original, but it is explained during the tour what caused those changes and how the house came to be furnished today. The basement is available to tour for free, and I would recommend going to read the enormous amount of historical information down there.During my visit, there was a horse-drawn carriage ride and numerous historic interpreters dressed in impressive period attire. In addition, the grounds and area surrounding the mansion is awesome and very beautiful.

The mansion is beautiful! Something to note however... Ive been to maymont in the past and they have always asked for a donation to see the mansion. However, now they SAY its a suggested donation, but its actually more of a you MUST pay to get in. Okay, thats fine, we all understand that its costly to maintain. But if you are going to charge people, then your tour guide needs to be up to snuff and not use expressions like this area was the man cave!! I took visitors and was completely underwhelmed by the lack of knowledge compared to the first time I visited. Still worth a visit.
