It was better in the 80s but it still history. Good or bad history depending on who you ask. I like to learn how they lived & built things.

The site of a ranching outpost for the mission in San Gabriel. It is situated in a beautiful spot, but the original building does not remain.

This place is closed. San Bernardino County transferred ownership to Redlands Conservancy. It will eventually be used for special events like weddings.

Small, well kept, and charming. Not much to see here since it is not a full mission but rather an annex. However, it is still a marvelous site.

A lot of history here! Intended as a replacement for a nearby outpost of the Mission San Gabriel, the Asistencia was still incomplete when the Mission system ended around 1833. Cast adrift, the Native Americans who had been more or less indentured to the padres tried to make a go of it on their own but suffered greatly in an attack by a raiding tribe from the desert. In 1842, the property was acquired by the Lugo family, Californio cattle ranchers with a land grant to the San Bernardino valley. In 1851 the Asistencia passed to Mormon pioneers founding the city of San Bernardino. In 1859, the Mormons were recalled to Utah and Dr. Ben Barton purchased the property. He resided there until his nearby Barton Villa was constructed in 1867. After falling into ruins, the Asistencia was reconstructed by the WPA during the 1930s. A special place to teach your kids about the rich history of our valley and those who came before us. Also a beautiful place for a wedding.
