I loved the 5 minutes hike to the beach. Its a good cardio. Nice quite beach which surprisingly didnt get much wind. It gets hot pretty quick here. But I liked the privacy and the quite so it gets a 4 star.
There is a fee for parking. Good part- less ppl visit. Which makes social distancing possible (not like redondo beach which was PACKED shoulder to should during the heat). Love the fine and and water. However the minus star- it is a REAL hassel to take anything down to the beach. You have to take a trail down to the beach and carrying the chair/ umbrella/ cooler/ ball etc.. is a real hassel! And most of all when you hit the beach there are a lot of rocks covered with flies... I mean a lot! But letting you know water and sand is good.
Such a nice spot for relaxing and taking in the sights and sounds of the ocean. Parking seems like it could be difficult at times but I went on a Sunday afternoon and was able to find a spot. I picked up a burrito and soda on my way in and set up with a beach chair by the shore and had myself a nice relaxing lunch. Lots of families and kids around but also areas that you can walk to that are a bit more secluded if thats something that youd rather avoid. One thing to note is that the only way down (that I saw) from the parking area to the beach area is a hike down a dirt path that is steep in some areas and has uneven/loose dirt. Make sure to bring shoes that are safe for this and wear a mask if youre visiting during COVID times because the path is narrow and people are huffing and puffing past eachother.
Its a great spot to go on a little hike. Going down to the shore will take you about 15 minutes or less coming up maybe about 20-25 minutes but can take a lot more depending how far you walk along the shore. The parking fee is kind of steep if you stay longer than 2 hours. $6 for 2 hours or less ; $12 anything more than 2 hours; and free if under 30 minutes. Great place for photographs!BEWARE OF RATTLESNAKES not that you should fear them, but just be aware of your surroundings especially where you are walking.
Perfect getaway midweek, when its not crowded. Go at low tide if you want to explore the life of the tidal pools. Enjoy!
Beautiful and great for engagement photos! Very isolated and not many people come to this beach.
The view from the top looking down at the entire cove is magnificent. The beach is not that crowded so its easy to have fun there without intrudihn on other peoples space. If you live in LA or want to go somewhere thats not as crowded go here or other coves that arent really explored.
Like this place. Lots of flowers surrounded the trail. You can see small dry valley without water. You can see small waterfall and river flow into the sea. The beach has lots of rocks and shells. Ecology is abundant as you can see lots of sea weeds and strange shape of rock. There is a sea cave at the bottom of Portuguese point you should stop by. At north side you can Wayfarer chapels and heard the bells every hour. Nice place to go!
This is a natural beauty... complete with Aquatic Life.
Beautiful area with a nice hike down to the beach.
Amazing view. I love Los Angeles
Beautiful spot for a hike and cool off in the ocean between hiking and looking for fossils
Makes me just want to stay there all day and take in the beautiful place!
Nice little shoreline park. Disappointed that the park wasnt open till sunset considering thats when a lot of people like to go outside. Great views though of the sunsets and lots of pretty wildflowers blooming.
Nice outing for Grandpa, Grandma and Grandson especially during the needed social distancing from Covid 19.
I am trying to explore all the beauty California has to offer and this was on the list. Great place to meditate and enjoy the view
The park contains ecological preserve and tide pools. Amazing rock tunnels where waves rush in and crash through. Enjoy the marine life but don’t touch or take anything.
Really cool place to visit. Go around 1p when the tide goes out and you can walk out pretty far (wear water shoes). I saw some really cool wildlife and the hike was breathtaking
This place is amazing! So beautiful, a great place to visit with the family. Parking is $6.
No one warned me how foggy it can be. Couldnt appreciate the Park beauty.
I love this place!!... on any giving day of the week, the walk on this trail will surely get your blood pumping, its got hills, cliffs, ocean views, wildlife, sealife, a fresh crisp breeze at all times and lots and lots of rocks(some sandy areas as well.) I usually walk the trail alone, I consider this my quick hike getaway since its so close to where I live. The parking lot is automated, there is a restroom and a ranger at most times in the office. Unfortunately, the tide pools have been carefully monitored by the lifeguards on duty due to cliff erosion and are no longer easily accessible. If you venture out into the higher trails, please be respectful to your surroundings and dont go off the main trails and take a bag to pick up your trash.
It is a great challeng by yourself..if you like aventures!!
Great site, lots of sand, and rocks, and tide pools. The beach is down the hill but the walk is not too bad even for someone in a bad shape like me.
Great place for children and adults to be in touch with nature. You can explore the many types of sea creatures that live in the tides. I reccomend this to anyone that has children. Just be careful when walking on the rocks.
Great spot to safely go cliff jumping if you go to the bluff on the left side (looking towards the Pacific).
Beautiful scenic views... Amazing place to come for a piece of mind. They have a grassy park like picnic area nestled at the top, near parking area. Restrooms are nearby parking area too. Parking is very reasonable. Take a walk down to the beach tide pool area for more views. One of the best reserves in the South Bay area.
Nice hike! Lots of tide pools. The water wad perfect on a hot day.
This is a beautiful little hidden-away cove. Its a fairly short (but occasionally steep) descent down to the beach, but does require a bit of prowess to negotiate the rocks once the trail ends. The tide pools are teeming with creatures and the rocks are formed with incredible patterns, colors and textures. Parking in the lot (which is the only parking around) is $12 max (2+ hours) and the machine accepts card or cash. This park seemed very well maintained and Id highly recommend it for a spot of natural shoreline beauty without the crowds that come along with most SoCal beaches.
My kids and I loved visiting this Cove and the tide pools yesterday. It was a nice hike down, accessible for most people, and wasnt too bad on the trip up. The tide pools were full of hermit crabs, snails, sea urchins, sea anemones. The kids loved playing in the ocean and the views were absolutely amazing. The parking cost $12 but we had several hours of fun so I was very satisfied.
12$for all day parking. The hikes are easy and fun. Stay towards the abalone side for nicer beach area
Most beautiful beach to hike and just wonder around and pick some rocks
Not crowded. Nice view. Can hike and swim.
Amazing view of the Pacific ocean. Nice trail.
Best views in Palos Verdes. First 30 mins of parking is free. There is clean restrooms that are well maintiabed. Nice trails especially in the Spring. Spent a good one hour here.
Perfect peaceful getaway and great photo shoot location for my fellow professional photographers
Simply Breathtaking. And great tide pools. I went on a misty day and it looked like as seen out of Game of Thrones . Awesome!!!!!
Is very very nice I like place just problems is doesnt found park there.
I didnt know what to expect. The first time I visited here. The park staff was very friendly and pointed me in the right direction. The shoreline is a ton of pebbles and small stones. There are cute tide pools with crabs and aneome in them. Loved it. Very pretty and clean.
Little far from parking. I hv to leave my a snacks behind cause you hv to go down hill other than that beautiful view
Relaxing place to hike. Amazing scenery
Parking lot opens at 9am. Low tide was at 10am today which was perfect. Walk down is not very challenging. Many people brought down toddlers, though that did take work. Go slow and most should be ok.
First time here. Nice open beach area for exploring, trails for hiking and cliffs for viewing the beautiful coast. A portion was closed when I was there so check the web for current condition.
Clean and you have to work to get there, quiet cove
It was such a great hike. Saw dolphins, hermit crabs, and it was such a beautiful day.
Tranquility and peaceful place...just a small walk from car
Nice little hike and the kids loved the tide pools. $6 to park for 2 hours.
I always find peace of mind
An amazing place for visitors like us. Were Colorado hikers and did not come prepared for this place. But it was amazing!! The trails are steep and the beach was rocky so my feet were hurting. But we just didnt want to leave because it was gorgeous!! Amazing views. So peaceful and serene. We saw lots of crabs and collected some driftwood. Wish I lived closer, Id visit all the time.
Good place for a hike. The tide pools and cove were beautiful. Several areas are closed for safety reasons but there are still several areas for hiking and enjoying the area. The area is accessible by bus, but it is a long ride--to the end of the line.
The hike down was easy, trek up was hard in the heat. But overall it was clean, so many tide pools to explore and not too crowded in the morning.
Such a great adventure for my family and I, cant wait to go back.
Wow this tide pool and place is absolutely stunning!!!! I am so happy we took the kids here. It was a little far drive but totally worth it!! We got to see and play with so many beautiful sea animals and my boys and I were in heaven here. The water is warm and the views are spectacular! Absolutely recommend this place for a family day. The cave was amazing too! :)
Parking was a disaster, there were people parked in no parking zones, saw cyclist almost be hit by a car, people blocking other cars in.The beach is beautiful and the view is amazing. We came during low tide the kids were able to see the sea life, sadly there was trash in the small pools.
Great place for a hike and pictures. Because the recent rain many trails are closed but right now it is blooming and looks beautiful. Highly recommend.
This place is a lot of fun to explore and walk around. I didnt get to check out the coves since the lifeguard was on duty and the tide was high, but the walk around the trails and shore was enjoyable. If youre into rocks you should absolutely check it out. Youll see a large variety of shapes, types, and colors. Im not sure what the paid parking goes towards, but I assume its for the maintenance of the park, so Im ok with paying for it.
Beautiful spot for sunset but the tide pools are underwhelming.
Great park with wonderful trails. There are two separate coves you can hike to. The trails are steep and rocky. We took our infant in a baby carrier which we felt comfortable with. You definitely cannot take a stroller to the coves. Check the tide charts and come at low tide, you will see a lot more then. Also bring a wetsuit and snorkel/mask to get real close to the sea life. We just brought a blanket and sat on the shore and enjoyed the sound of crashing waves.
Gorgeous views and moderate hiking. I love it!!
Short drvie from Torrance. There is a parking lot (cost~$6) with restrooms facility. A moderate walk to the beach not too difficult. But its not stroller friendly but it can be done. Not much of a shore as its very Rocky but there are plenty of space and places to relax. I recommend checking it out.
A beautiful hiking trail, taking you along the bluffs and down to the cove. Great vistas and views of Catalina Island on a clear day.
The parking is $6 for 2 hours which is expensive, but the area is really nice. We hiked down to the water level + back up pretty easily.
Great hike to two grottos!
Beatiful water and scenery. The hike is a about a mile and a half to the cove and definitely worth it
Wonderful place to take the kids. The tide pools were full of hermit crabs, snails, barnacles and sea slugs. The trails down to the sea caves were inaccessible when I was there due to unstable cliff faces.
So beautiful with the flowers in full bloom
Beautiful park with many trail options. Good for a few hours of activity.
Best kept secret in...
Beautiful place to relax and meditate, pure air to breathe and the most beautiful panoramic views, alone or with the right company definitely a place to enjoy
Beautiful views! Not crowded even on a Sunday afternoon.
Secluded beach. Steep trail from the parking lot. Was closed earlier due to Covid-19, now open with social distancing.
Cool hiking spot with amazing tide pools & areas to explore.
Great park. Go at low tide to enjoy the tide pools. Hiking is nice. Not terribly long trails, but fantastic views.
One of my favorite places to go hiking and just be away from the LA crowds and traffic. Very pretty scenes. Especially with all the spring flowers.
Omg... How did I never stop here?! This is VERY WORTH the parking fee..I will bring a lunch next time and stay all day. You have the option of staying up on the cliff and enjoying the view at the rails, you can hike around the cliff area, or you can hike right down to the beach. The upper cliff area is well maintained and has a very decent bathroom. The beach is beautiful, probably because not everyone wants to pay to play... But I will be back with my kids because this place is worth every $$ AND there is a lifeguard and/or sheriff patrolling.
Just beautiful! Combined hiking and beach access cant be beat! Steep terrain so make sure youre prepared. Very rocky beach and totally almost stepped on a huge snake when in went last weekend so be very careful right now as this is the season!!
Beautiful coast hiking
Cool little spot for a weekend hike. The greatest part about it is it feels like youve completely left Los Angeles.
Unexpectedly, I was hiking! Of all my years growing up and going to MANY parts of the LA area, did I know there is glistening black sand around these coves. I felt like I was in a movie
Great place to hike and sight see... totally worth it.
Nice snorkeling. Water is chilly.
Amazing place for short hike, nice view.
Gorgeous!!! Incredible views and beautiful beach. Lots of rocks. A must see. Take the short hike down to the beach. Its worth it.
Great place to have a hike in low tide.
SO BEAUTIFUL! Wonderful for a hike and had amazing views
Beautiful! One of the tide pool areas was closed due to falling rocks, which was disappointing, but the available areas were lovely and not crowded. Id recommend checking tide times for optimum exploration, as we only found smaller sea life in the shallows.
Quiet and small. Watched dolphins and explored tide pools.
Large beautiful area for hiking.
Perfect sky view during the night
The place lived up to all its reviews. Abalone Cove shoreline is as peaceful, serene and picturesque as you see in the photos. Go during sunset to watch the sky change its color over the pacific. Beware though, there is a short (very short) hike to go down the beach. Also, be prepared to not have many people around as company. Its quiet, off the grid feeling is what makes it so special.
Magical place took my 7 year old son, we hiked down in 15 min. loved the tide pools, filled with star fishes, anemones, sea urchins, sea snails, hermit crabs, and many other interesting things. A must see
What a nice view! You will definitely love
