If you like beautiful ponderosa pine forests in the mountains with spring feed creeks and abundant wildlife, youll love Prescott national forest. My wife and I go camping there for a couple nights each week ever since the virus took our jobs in March. Theres GOLD too! Panning for gold is allowed there and we got some!Last week we explored and were amazed to find a cabin built in 1874. Ill post some photos.
Beautiful country! A little town in the mountains,an old mining town. Nettled into the mountains, lots of neat little shops and Haunted Burgers is a must eat place to visit. Beautiful view of the valleys below from 6000 ft. In elevation! Quite a sight,as a matter of fact, Haunted Burgers has a great view from the dining room windows. Great place to visit, and camping high in the mountains. South of Flagstaff, Arizona, near Sedona, Arizona.,off Interstate 17,South from I-44.
I love the Prescott Basin. Its a beautiful area with a wide variety of activities available. Its typically cooler than Phoenix by 20-30 degrees making the area an ideal reprieve from the heat.
A peaceful retreat to forest bathe! My first night solo camping I decided to dismantle the bowl shaped fire pit and make it a bit more windproof.
Went on a side by side adventure, the views were incredible. Having just moved from Minnesota the ability to go out exploring is unique and well worth the time!
Visited Goldwater lake. Was beautiful. Park is very well taken care of. Took our three kids kayaking and hiking. Had a picnic afterwards.
Absolutely jaw dropping and breathtaking. Currently staying at a friends cabin on Spruce mountain. Everything from the sunrises to the stars at night are stunning. I have encountered javelina, deer, wild turkey, and lizards. I would recommend to anyone and everyone to take a trip here.
Theres the haunted city of Jerome AZ by there, but the roads going there are extremely twisted with high potential for sliding rocks. Its very beautiful and peaceful with lots of trails even for beginners.
Great hiking options. Shaded with easy hiking trails. Many trails are sandy
Great trails, beautiful scenery that make for a great time! What are you waiting for? Go out and check it out, you arent going to live forever.
Beautiful horseback riding with Prescott Horseback Riding. Amazing terrain and sunsets..
Beautiful little lake high up in the Mingus Mountains. Trout fishing. Picnic spot. So cool up here. Love it
Hidden oasis in southern Arizona, this place is amazing!!! Great for a hike, get some fresh air and just be at one with nature
Amazing and well kept Forest 500+ miles of trails to explore. 5 lakes in the Prescott area to visit. All are non-motorized though and no swimming Please help keep it clean and pack out all trash!
Blue Ridge reservoir is a good lake for kayaking, its long and winding.
Beautiful area and cool weather. Great escape from the city.
Search a nice quiet place to go
What can one say about this place? Just gorgeous all around. Beautiful scenery and of course, the skies are amazing to watch at given moments.
Good hike with nice shade... And a bear! Didnt seem concerned with us though
Wonderfully cool and calm place to visit many different things you can do in the area but just being there is its own experience
This is a really fun campground. It is very quiet and peaceful out there. My dogs loved it!
Beautiful trails. Parts are easy to go with a sedan. Others 4WD is required.
Great area lots of hiking. This is wolf creek falls.. there is a water fall here best time to come and see it is (according tho the ranger) after a very hard rain week.... check on weather before you come this is a big loop
Awesome, get your permit for the trailhead fossil creek if you dont care for hiking. Very clean
You probably dont need me to tell you...but I will anyway. Mountain biking around Prescott is AMAZING! The entire city is surrounded by trails. In fact theres literally a 57 mile trail that loops the entire city. There are trails for all skill level but be sure to pick up a map of the local trails and stick to the ones you think you can do. Coincidentally the $1 map you can pick up around town is tre best one Ive seen. If youre into apps then go with REIs MTB project app for great details, plus it runs in airplane mode so you wont blow your battery searching for signals.Hiking and trail running these same trails is very popular. Plenty to do up there.Camping is all on a first-come basis. Most sites are easily found off the upper portion of Thumb Butte Rd. High clearance vehicles not needed but definitely a plus, the county does not maintain the roads and they are closed in the winter. For any other details, well youll just have to check it out yourself.
Beautiful scenic highway to drive on. The mountains are highly visible while driving through this national forest. There are some lookouts where you can stop to take great photos and a couple times a month you might find a Navajo artist selling jewelry at one of these stops. Be warned--if someone in your party is wary of heights, this is NOT the drive for you! The drive is mostly on the edges of very steep cliffs with no shoulder. Drive safely! Smaller vehicles are easier to maneuver up here.
Great time @ the DeSoto mine trail!
Beautiful! Well worth the drive! Beautiful views looking over the city. The thing we like best when visiting the Prescott/Prescott Valley area is the variety of different terrains we encounter in just short distances.
Always beautiful to get out into the woods, feel far away but minutes from town
Beautiful part of the world a must seen. My kids absolutely loved it.
It is a great place to be on any day. Today was special because the weather was warm and sunny. My grandson loved his driving lesson on the forest roads. My car drives well on many forest roads. I encouraged a woman today to do some offroading in the forests of AZ since she has a jeep that she has never taken off road. I told her about the forest road maps.
Prescott National Forest is a great area to go for hiking, shooting, camping, four wheeling, and much more. It is most always a nice temperature and great weather out.The area has amazing sunsets, great mountain views, trees, shrub oak and much more.
Granite Basin Lake ... small but beautiful setting!
Awesome. Best ruins I have ever seen.
Prescott is such a beautiful city my parents live there and I enjoy visiting when I go out over.
It has alot of great trails and has great camping spots, also there is also a cliff for hang gliders
Its gorgeous, so beautiful. Everyone should come.
Slide Rock is amazing
I hike with the Prescott Hiking Club and we hike various areas through out Prescott. Its a beautiful place to live.
Always a beautiful place.
We drove through here on a little sightseeing drive through the dirt road that travels through the forest from Seligman to Prescott. It was gorgeous; we saw some bucks, cows, little rabbits, and tons of birds. We stopped and picked up some trash on the way through as well.
Nice & quite & cool
The Bradshaw mountains her great place close to Phoenix to get away. Very cold during the winter slightly warm during the summer.
Fabulous scenery entering from south on hwy 89. A great escape from warmer temperatures in the Phoenix area.
Breathtaking views lots of historic buildings memorabilia I mean Im sitting here looking at call Manning equipment cool cars copper core the old car lot of history here Largest operating copper mine.
Beautiful place to spend family time.3
Went exploring trails with caravan of Can ams!! A Lot of places and trails to explore! Nice weather!! Gotta love our forests!!
My wife and I and 2 friends drove up to Crown King to see the sights. It is a 20 something miles to the top. The primitive road is only 1 lane in a few points, but most of the time the road is good. You really dont need 4 wheel to get there. We stopped at the original bar and had a beer before heading back down the mountain. The variety store in town has plenty of products to buy.
So many pretty things to see
Unlimited recreation opportunity
Beautiful trail ride from Prescott Valley to Jerome and back.
Beautiful forest! Worth driving to and spending time in. Found some blackberries that were delish! Kids always have a blast out there!
Free camping out at Thumb Butte Recreation Area. Firewood wood everyplace. Snows in winter. Still the camping is hard to beat. No fees for camping. No facilities and pack out what you brought in.
This is such a beautiful place and just a short drive from Phoenix .
Beautiful! Drive the Senator Highway. Make sure that you have a capable SUV or truck. It was a beautiful day when I went. A nice mix of Ponderosa Pine and desert.
Fun hiking trails and a great way to get out of the heat in Phoenix.
Small forest in the middle of larger forests. Dont know too much about it but anytime you can get to the trees, its better than being in the dirt.
Always been a pleasure to deal with our forest service office I love our forest rangers too, thanks for keeping an eye out there
Dogtown lake area is GORGEOUS and well kept!! We come camping every year!
Lots to offer in the Prescott National Forest. It spans over many different elevation from the Dessert north of Phoenix to Sedona Az
FSR 171. Very good FSR 171 road. Lots of camp sites for everything from Class A to tent sites.
Arizona has many National Forests & Parks; the Prescott is beautifully scenic. I was only passing through after I got my car out of jail, so I was not able to enjoy the many amenities afforded...
Visiting the Prescott National Forest is a great way to experience the beauty of the Arizona mountains. Love it!
Dirtbike riding is the best, throttle wide open flying thought the country is the best feeling in the world besides flying through the air
Stunning views,. Pretty easy hiking trail.
Close to the valley yet an pine woods paradise. Visit the firetowers, enjoy Horsethief Lake, really a great area to visit. Be sure to check for fire restrictions.
Beautiful scenery. The rangers assigned were polite and a pleasure to interact with them. Even a forest fire just added to natures beautiful scenery.
Hiking, biking, camping or just hanging out! You can do it all here and look good doing it!;)If you like the outdoors at all its all here for you waiting to be explored and enjoyed!
It was amazing mental spiritual and physical health trip LOL I felt really good after coming back
So nice to drive up to Jerome - the less-traveled way!
Well ok nothing to scream and holler about just lots of pines nothing exciting I wouldnt run down the road with Bells and whistles
Great whether, got some rain.
Prescott, Prescott Valley are beautiful year round. In winter it snows, blows and gets real cold. The views are spectacular!! Its not over priced but expect to spend some money while there.Check out Watson Lake and of course Wiskey Row.
Its so peaceful and quiet. People just need to remember that we should not litter. I do my part to to keep this forest the way it was intended to look
Prescott National Forest offers a wide variety of activities for every age group. They have walking trails, bike trails and some amazing wilderness watch areas. During the summer visit one of the lookout towers, the Ranger on duty is happy to give you a tour of the tower and tell you some wonderful facts about the area. They have day use and camping areas. Our forest is home to several species of birds and wildlife. A wonderful place for family and friends to gather. Please use our forest responsibly, PACK IT IN PACK IT OUT!
Great adventure ride just be careful on the loose gravel roads..
This is a great area, actually can enjoy the 4 seasons around here, well most years anyway. The land is a nice break from the scorching desert heat. everyone loves the smell of fresh pine trees! the area is in a drought tho so please be careful with matches and fires.
Is a good forest, a fine forest
Love this place
Absolutely Beautiful and the vendors had some amazing items too
Depending on where we go inside the Prescott National Forest, we usually enjoy the fresh air, the smell of pine and juniper, the wildlife and a sense of being a million miles away from civilization. The nice thing about Prescott is, its close to Phoenix, which makes it great for a day trip or for a weekend of hiking, exploring and camping. It has a lot of great places to eat and every type of store for your supplies.
This is lynx lake within Prescott national forest. It is free on Wednesdays or any other day is $5. You must have $5 cash or you can risk getting a ticket from the sheriff if your car is in a spot that is not paid for. There are many places that you can register for to camp. People have kayaks and canoes all the time on the lake. You cannot swim in the lake this is not a swimming lake.
Road trip driving back going from Sedona AZ to Prescott AZ. The drive was scenic.
Stunning and beautiful.
Portions of the Prescott National Forest today are much the same as they were when Sam Miller panned for gold in Lynx Creek and was wounded by a cougar, or when General Crook’s flag fluttered over Palace Station. At the lowest elevation, the primary vegetation is of the Sonoran Desert type. As the elevation rises, chaparral becomes common, followed by piñon juniper. Above that, Ponderosa pine dominates the landscape. There are eight designated wilderness areas comprising of more than 104,000 acres located entirely or partially within the Prescott National Forest. Apache Creek Wilderness, Castle Creek Wilderness, Cedar Bench Wilderness, Granite Mountain Wilderness, Juniper Mesa Wilderness, Pine Mountain Wilderness, Sycamore Canyon Wilderness and Woodchute Wilderness. The Prescott Forest Reserve was established by the General Land Office on May 10, 1898. It was transferred to the U.S. Forest service in 1906 and became a National Forest on March 4, 1907
Beautiful area. Not a ton of dispersed area to camp but with fire restrictions its a good thing! Camped @ Potato Patch campground & was pleased.
One of my favorite places to visit on Mingus Mountain
Absolutely beautiful !
Awesome trails for off road fun
Fantastic views around every corner. Lots of places to pull off the road and take in the absence of city life. If you bring a camera you wont be long waiting for a great opportunity to shoot some actual wildlife in the wild. Birds, deer, maybe even a bear.
Lynx Creek area fun for gold-panning although little water. Have seen bobcat, deer, wild turkeys, skunks, javelina, squirrels, and a bunch of other stuff I just cant remember. There is free camping available in sites past Lynx Lake taking dirt roads on the left around mileposts 4-5 on Walker Road. Dirt roads can get a little hairy so if you have a camper you might want to get a site in the beginning or disconnect to make sure you can get down there with your equipment before attempting. Ive traveled down in passenger cars but you might scrape the underside a bit. Camping stays are strictly enforced to 7 days per 30 day period in free sites. There is free unrestricted camping if you continue down walker road to about mile post 7, (cross a little bridge) and make a left on Big Bug Mesa Rd which is a dirt road. Follow 5 miles up and you will see a sign for the beginning of unrestricted camping. There is no water available up there so bring all you need. Road is pretty well maintained with some areas of washboard. Pics are of Lynx Lake and creek.
Something everyone should experience at least once in there life.
