Very cool walk through the grounds with sculptures. The museum wasnt open but we found that this was a great place to start and end hikes.
I sent my daughter to the camp here and she absolutely loved it!! It was in her words very fun and I would love to go back.
Such a beautiful place with a wonderfully intimate concert venue. What could be better than live music under the stars in the trees? Lovely
Great venue for live music! Acoustics are fantastic. Thank you Tom for bringing Robey & Eric
Great place for people of all ages to explore nature and the animals that live all around us.
Beautiful facility with very nice hiking trails from easy to challenging. As of 07/26/20, the Highlands Center was closed but the trails are open. Highly recommend coming back when things open back up.
I loved this place. Had no idea it was tucked in by Lynx Lake. Wonderful little gem. Walk around and see lots of flora and some fauna. In May everything was in bloom. It was hot, but not hot enough to keep me off the hiking trails.
Beautiful nature center with many great hiking trails!
The perfect place to go to experience mother nature at her finest.
Wonderful outdoor venue! Social distance seating.
Great place to see a live music concert!
What a great place for kids and adults alike. Trails to explore, information centers to learn about the local flora and fauna, places for the kids to play and learn including a smorgasbord of shells, bones, wood and stones for kids to exercise their imaginations and work off excess energy! Free to the public
This is a very nice place! The trails are well-maintained and the exhibits are informative. Id like to return in the spring or summer to see the plants in their full glory. There are some easy paved trails and also more challenging ones (still fairly easy for an average, healthy-ish person), so its good for people with different ability levels. The coolest thing, in my opinion, is the play area for kids. Its got a great spiderweb rope net, a rock tower for climbing, and a big sand area and supplies (cool rocks, bones, pinecones) for making sculptures. We had a great time and will return.
Very nice visitor center and friendly staff. Walking trails through forest were great and informative with labeled plants. Benches along trails allow for plenty of rests and break points. Amphitheatre area and kids enclosed play areas make it kids friendly.
Started their Hiking Spree this morning. Don was great as our tour guy on the first hike! Cant wait to do the others. The area is picturesque and thoroughly enjoyed the experience of the kick off!
Worthy of all our support
This was a beautiful place to visit. And I also had time to relax. Im definitely going to go back there again.
I love nature hikes especially in beautiful thick forests and this place is surrounded by great big pine trees a around and has many trails to explore... mostly easy to moderate difficulty level, also good wheelchair access and really nice kids areas. Also has a great visitor center and gift shop run by very nice people!
Beautiful place, with a nice gift shop, amphitheatre, and childrens play area. I wish the trails were longer, the place is truly lovely.
We came here to check it out because I bought a 1 year combo membership. I have lived in Prescott for 11 years now and never stopped by. There are some nice hiking trails you can take and they are nicely made trails. Some are even easily walked work the use of a walker. The trails here are free to use and they even have a trail for bicycles, and a playground with picnic tables. Definitely worth checking out.
We love hiking here; especially taking our dog with us and going down to Lynx Creek. She loves going in the water; its been higher than normal due to the increased rain weve received. Its such a beautiful area; it never gets old!!
Great staff/volunteers and a lot of fun! My girls learned SO much and saw some beautiful wildlife and scenery. Highly reccomend.
Interesting place to visit, we arrived almost and closing maybe next time we can see it all.
Pristine environment clean restrooms
The Highlands Center is my go-to spot for hiking and enjoying the beauty of Prescott. There are a variety of beautiful trails that can be enjoyed independently, but the Center also hosts events and programs that are accessable and fun. This is a terrific place for families to hike (I have many memories of coming here with my mom and sisters,) or for individuals looking to spend some time in a sanctuary away from the noise of daily life.
The Highlands Center for Natural History is an incredible outdoor sensory experience. The Center is located in the Arizona Central Highlands, which is an incredible natural environment of extraordinary biodiversity. The Center is a massively rich outdoor classroom for both kids and adults.
Such a cool place to take kids. They have fun and are learning at the same time
Wasnt bad yet not good the least they could do is open the restrooms.
Beautiful trail
The woman at the store was super friendly and a lot of cool little items for sale, made it a double win, present for my kid and a donation to a none profit. The play area was great and the walking areas were well maintained and a great little walk.
Great place to do a hike and learn about the area. Very knowledgeable staff.
Wonderful nature trails with signage and other informational plaques that tell you about the land and identify plants along the way.
I came here on a field trip where students were doing community service. Its a lovely place set back into the woods. There was a day camp going on for local children. Its a modern learning center where they teach about the local ecosystem, and shows artwork that fits into the natural setting. The trails are clear and well maintained, and the walk was beautiful to the lake. I highly recommend it.
I visited the Highlands Center for the first time this week. My 2 small dogs have trouble with some of the other trails due to the burrs and Foxtail weed, but we found a beautifully paved path and some dirt paths that were perfect for us. The scenery is beautiful and its open through the government shutdown! Im looking forward to going back.
The Highlands Center for Natural History is an education-centered non-profit which offers a variety of things to do. There are different kinds of trails for hiking, some more strenuous than others. The recently opened Discovery Garden offers a completely handicapped-accessible trail through the 5 types of areas found in Yavapai County, such as, riparian, grasslands, woodlands, etc. There are benches throughout the walkway for resting, observing birds and sometimes other kinds of wildlife, or taking in the varieties of plants found in the area. There is even a natural playground for kids. We hike it often and bring our visitors out to experience it as well. Its near Lynx Lake and there are connecting trails with the Prescott National Forest. Comfortable clothes and good walking shoes (either tennis or hiking) are good. They also offer nature walks and bird walks periodically.
Beautiful.
This place is beautiful! They have a learning center and 4 hiking trails of distances from 1/8 mile to 2 miles and one trail allows for bikes. My husband and I took the short trail and it still felt like we were deep in the woods. It was very peaceful and serene. There are a few benches on the trails in case you get tired and need to sit a spell. Highly recommended for the whole family. Please leave a tip in the container provided so this place can stay open for years to come for people to enjoy. We did.
Coolest place for people of all ages to explore and learn about the outdoors. They have some beautiful under-roof settings for family gatherings and events of any kind. And a great place for a kids play area. Lots of paved trails for easy accessibility and plenty of hiking trails through the national forest. Dont miss the gift store with all kinds of educational material.
We love it here, lots of beautiful and well maintained trails. There is a great kids area to play in.
Nice, I dont really understand what is purpose is but its pretty there.
If you are in Prescott, AZ go here for an easy 2 mile hike along Lynx Creek and visit their Highland garden. Enjoy.
Educational. They have nature walks where the guide tells you about the fauna. They have bird walks. They have classes on various insects, etc. that are local. They have a nice souvenir shop too. Also, you can hike on their paths. That doesnt cost anything.
Great programs for kids. Lovely hiking trails.
Well maintained trails and great educational exhibits
I went on a field trip with a 2nd grade class. They were prepared, great with the kids and very knowledgeable.
Great center to experience nature and the unique ponderosa pine forests that are in the Prescott area
I love this area more and more with each visit!
Beautiful area. We had a wedding dinner rehearsal. We didnt walk any of the trails but it was very pretty. Very clean and well maintained. I didnt have service but its nice to disconnect sometimes.
What a beautiful place! Great for hikes and children.
Beautiful, Educational, and has a wonderful Gift Shop.

Close to town, great place.
Love this place. Lynx lake is pretty great!
Beautiful and breath-taking. Serenity with great hiking routes. Come here if youre looking to reconnect with nature.
This is a great place for hiking, communing with nature, allowing the kids to play on the all-natural playground, which is new and in the Discovery Garden. Anyone can go and hike the trails that are open. There is a membership fee for members. Members get in the Discovery Garden for free and can attend to other events and activities, some of which are free and some of which have a member discount cost.
Very nice small shop! Loved the sales lady.
Great place to explore. I wouldnt recommend going to a guided walk with kids. The volunteer who was working it last week had no patience for kids, we ended up leaving him and exploring the trails on our own.
Employee very nice. Had my son in summer sprouts wish it was all summer long he loved it
Beautiful....take the time, its worth it.
Great event venue and staff.
Its after I discovered this wonderful place that I got back into hiking. Beautiful trails throughout!
We love stopping here just before going to Costco. They have tables and benches all around for a picnic lunch. Some trails you pay for but others are free.
Great trails, wonderful education! Fun for the whole family!
Lovely short nature walks with informative pamphlet (had some neat geological information)
Wonderful staff and location.A great place for kids and families. The staff Jessie and Felipe are stellar!
Great place to experience nature. If you have a chance go on a flashlight walk! Rough trail so take walking sticks if you have any difficulties or unsure feet. Also be sure to take a jacket!
Very nice place, Great trails
Great hidden gem. Summer concerts and pleasant hikes. Near Lynx Lake.
So close to town, but you dont feel that way once you are in the forest. Children can learn about the natural environment around them from a great staff that lead day camps. Join.
Beautiful venue for the Sing Sing Sing concert
Great place for learning and experience nature
Wonderful place for all ages to hike and have a picnic. Educational too!
Nice hiking trails even saw a bald eagle.
Beautiful, informative and fun for the whole family or just to walk around
Great place for short nature hikes. We bought a shubbery.

Excellent breakfast! Fast friendly service
Beautiful trails, very quiet. Good place to take kids out and explore
Very good place to hike and enjoy nature.
Nice
Cool place to go visit!
Wonderful place! Highly recommend.
Great place for hiking and learning about nature and off grid green building. Native plant sale May 4.
Wonderful trails and guides!
What a lovely area to take the grandkids
Beautiful facility with access to wonderful trails.
I was unable to park my 40ft school bus in their bus parking. Very be awkward to get into with an oversized vehicle. If you are with a school group you will need to either block staff parking or drive back to hwy 69 and pick a business parking lot to stay in.
A beautiful place, great for walking!
Great place to come and learn about nature.
