Had our wedding here early October. Most beautiful place, with lovely scenery and a gorgeous stone mansion. Walking trails during the week are also fantastic.
Great place to explore. Beautiful trees, shrubs and perennials. A few small ponds and many trails. This is a great place to bird watch. The blue trail joins up to the Horseshoe Trail. The only negatives are that some of the trail floods easily and other need maintenance.
Gentleman in charge seemed very rude to staff and guests. Ive seen negative posts from garden enthusiasts, and this is in reference to wedding venue a few weeks ago -- Pick which thing you wan to do --- be a garden for exploring and enjoying, or be a wedding venue, and then put all your efforts in that direction. In either case, the grumpy man in charge shouldnt be dealing with the public.
Nice place
Very beautiful and clean. Trails are not clearly defined but a map is provided by the visitors pavilion. Lots of neat native plant species and wildlife. It has a beautiful pond. Pet friendly but bring bags because the park does not provide trash cans. Nice place to picnic and hike.
We found this place purely by chance and enrolled our daughter in their summer nature camp program. She enjoyed it *so* much that she was heartbroken when the week ended so we enrolled her for the following week as well! The staff weve interacted with has been excellent and very patient with us during our first foray into the world of summer camp!Shes already excitedly talking about returning next year for the full day program!
Stopped by to explore. Beautiful garden, woods, and water.
Beautiful wedding venue... I have loved DJing wedding there!
Awesome building and grounds, and beautiful place for a wedding or event.
Peaceful
Property is so beautiful
Private party, excellent greeting and treatment, but no other knowledge of area or amenities.
My friend and I have been going to a lot of the gardens in the Philadelphia area. I dont just appreciate the ornamental gardens like Longwood or Nemours estate, I also enjoy the wild gardens using native plants like Wintertur so coming to Welkinweir I expected a smaller version of a wild garden. Unfortunately they seem to be missing the energy maybe? The paths arent marked and we couldnt even find the area to get the the oak (?) grove. Things were barely mowed and considering you are trying to get around through the grass that wouldnt be good for anyone with walking issues. It seems like the only areas they were maintaining were those being used for weddings. Perhaps that is where their focus is now, in which case I think Id remove them from the 30 gardens in 30 miles of philly. All in all a disappointment and I dont usually say that about gardens, especially when they are free but frankly, it wasnt worth the drive.
Beautiful setting, very odd hours. Hours are geared for caretakers...not for vistors.
