American food and the feeling at this place is great. Staff is always nice even when they have a full house. I will probably become a regular. Similar to a cafe in Las Vegas I loved.

BEST FOOD I HAVE EVER HAD! I am so glad I let my husband talk me into trying it! The waitress was kind and helpful, the food was insane! My husband loved his chicken and jalapeno waffles and my chicken fried steak was HEAVEN! It was a real steak with red in the middle, so darn good!

How I can tell a place is by their Eggs Benedict.So disappointed. Hashbrowns extremely oily. Poached eggs, yolk over cooked but egg white still slightly gelatinous somehow. Hollandaise, ummm tasted like mayo.For a place the food network has been to I couldnt justify paying $15 for it. I ate as much as I could. My friend was kind to pay for it and deal with me constantly bringing it up.

Great Place for Brunch in downtown Portland! Short walk from Powells Books. We ordered the Donut Holes and The Mushroom Omelet to Split! Both were delicious! The Hash Browns were amazing as well! We walked around and went upstairs to check out the arcade! Such a cool place! Would definitely recommend!

We came here for breakfast at 3PM. First timers to the area, not familiar with which places serve breakfast all day. Gave these guys a go and we were delighted.The special milkshake of the day was vanilla with pretzels and caramel. It’s hand dipped and comes with the extra milkshake served on the side - basically a full second milkshake!! Perfect for sharing.I got the veggie burger with avocado and a side of tomato soup. The veggie patty had full peas and bits of carrots and spinach, so good. Matt got the Breakfast Lager that came with sausage, bacon, eggs and hash browns. The sausage wasn’t the best, lacking in flavor or something.The peppermint tea was incredible. Loose leaf in a bag, Steven Smith Teamaker, a local brand.Thank you for being a spotless restaurant. So clean. Every corner was dust free and nothing was sticky or greasy. Even the hot sauce bottles looked new!

I was very impressed!!! In route I always use there restroom.. It very convenient. So I decided its more than time to try them out.. I ordered a dirty martini. These are easy to mess up! The Bar tender made it excellently!! Yumm!! Then I ordered some wings. Smokey and delicious, and lots of them! The service was beyond exception. The Host was a BOSS!! Love this place.

We went for breakfast and we were also in a hurry but they got the food out with time to spare! I got the tofu scramble which was seasoned to perfection and my partner got the veggie hash bake. Both were very filling and the food came out quickly. Love the ambiance there too.

Stayed the weekend in Portland, couldnt have been happier with our stay. This diner was a great hang out, and the food was spot on. I will be back for more chicken and waffles!! And if youre a retro game nerd like me, hit up the modern take on Pong upstairs! The entire staff was on point!

Cool environment and theme to the restaurant. Food was good and they had some nice variety on their menu. Due to diet restrictions I had the Cobb salad however it was bigger than the other plates of food at our table that others had ordered. Also has an arcade upstairs so after your full you can go have some fun and burn off some of that food. It was a nice place to go and say you went especially since it was on diners, drive ins, and dives but probably wouldnt go back.

This place is the worst breakfast I have ever had and three guests who were along side me agree. You can get a better breakfast at IHOP or Dennys. We waited 45 minutes for a table. There were multiple tables open and somehow we still had to wait, maybe under staff? Any way once we sat down our waitress was kind and friendly that was the only good part of this experience. When we ordered our food it took so long and finally when it came the eggs were scrambled on 2 orders that were requested as over easy and over medium and my over medium eggs were more like over hard. When the eggs were fixed I finally was ready to eat and my biscuits were hard as a rock with a small amount of gravy I couldnt even eat them. My friend ordered the french toast that was the opposite, the toast was soggy and almost seemed under cooked. After it was all done, we left our plates with about the same amount of food that was received. Of course the waitress didnt question it or ask how the food was most likely because she was afraid to know the answer. So if you want to wait 45 plus minutes for food and want a satisfying brunch I would recommend waiting somewhere else.

Delicious food, cool staff and reeeeally good boozy shakes (they are strong, but are tasty enough for even those who dont enjoy alcoholic mixed drinks). Think it cant get better than that? Wrong! They also have an arcade. Fun for all ages! To be honest, the hubby and I always stuff ourselves before we can visit the arcade though. I guess we have to pick and choose our battles.

Great atmosphere and awesome people. I got a burger and a milkshake, but not just any ordinary milkshake, a Salty Jim bourbon milkshake. That changed the way I looked at ice cream and bourbon forever. I could drink that every day. For the burger, I had the Squealer and it was alright. Honestly, for a burger with a fried egg (not runny, unfortunately) and pickled red onion, it was surprisingly lacking in flavor. I also shared the Chicken and Waffle Sliders and I should have just stuck with that because it was inventive and quite tasty.

With my daughter going to college in Portland, my wife and I have been flying up from Vegas to spend Thanksgiving with her the last couple years. We had a great dinner last year at Meriwethers but they werent serving Thanksgiving this year due to a huge remodel - so we picked the Original Dinerant.If youve looked through their reviews, all the negative comments seemed to stem from the poor customer service. Everyone from the hostesses to the servers - even a manager - seemed to be getting slammed so I was a bit apprehensive when I stepped through the door.We showed up about 10 minutes early for a 6:45 reservation but the hostess cheerily greeted us and said that our table was ready. Once seated, water and drink orders were taken immediately and we were provided with the Thanksgiving menu. The young man who served us was also pleasant and checked on us multiple times throughout dinner.The food was good and it ended up being a great Thanksgiving dinner. Im looking forward to our visits next spring so we can try their regular menu items!

The service was good over all. Although no one seemed to notice or care that the entire chicken and waffle dish only had one bite out of each burger, only because my husband and I each tried one. ( not our favorite ) The donut burger sliders where GREAT and the milk shake was good. The boozy shake was strong. Over all happy

Out of ice cream! But food was good.We dropped in for early dinner after arriving in the city on a busy Sunday. Enticed by the promise of adult milk shakes, we were immediately disappointed when we learned they were totally out of ice cream.We changed gears, and I ordered chicken and waffles. The jalapeno waffle combined with the smoked maple syrup was sweet, savory and delicious. My chicken was overdone.Otherwise, our other entrees were as promised, and no one left hungry.

Great service! I like the food... My wife loves the place. It had been awhile since we went and they now have an arcade upstairs! My 16 month old son had a blast and the server was SUUUUUUUUPERRRR nice to him. We went upstairs afterwards and played some retro games. Killer view upstairs of that part of town. I would go back again.

I really loved this diner. It was a nice mix of trendy with classic diner. The food followed this pattern, with lots of classic diner menu items, but all less-greasy and many with a healthy twist. Id definitely recommend it to anyone.

I have eaten here many times. They have a wide variety of dishes for breakfast lunch and dinner. Their burgers and salads are quite good. Recently I have noticed a slight lessening of the quality. Not sure what happened, but still 4 stars.

Open place that has a warm feeling when you walk in. This is the first time i have been here but the breakfast burrito and chicken and waffles were a hit. Chicken was a little dry but tasty. The jalapeño waffle in the other hand was delicious. Good combination. Breakfast burrito was massive and definitely fills you up. Worth the trip and definitely will return. Highly recommend!

We had our company party here. It was fun. The hamburgers were delicious. They did not over cook them and make then hard as a rock. The drink were good. If you want a shake the have several different boozy shakes that are to die for. They have arcades to play including pinball. We really enjoyed ourselves The staff are great people and made it even more delightful. .

Lots of positive going for this location. It was connected to my hotel for one. But the food selection is great with such an array of choices. The breakfast options are in line with normal to grand. The lunch/dinner menu is great as well. The staff was super friendly and on top of things at all times. I would definitely recommend this place for any meal of the day or if you want drinks. The bartenders made for some great conversations.

The food here was super delicious and everything but Im not quite sure if it was worth the wait time it took for us to get it.. we were seated as soon as we walked in, which was excellent of course, but then it proceeded to take the staff like half an hour to come back and take our orders. So we just sat there waiting and starving, had our menus closed and everything. Several of the staff walked by and didnt help us..finally I was like excuse me were ready to order and THEN he took our order. It took another 20 minutes for him to bring the food out. It wasnt too bad of a price at least, and the waiter was friendly, he just took forever to get over there. Probably wont be returning because I value my time

The food took a lot to come and it was tasteless and poorly cooked. The poached eggs were overcooked while all the other stuff on the plate were missing the seasoning and the flavor. Do yourself a favor and pick something else for you “diner” experience!

This eye catching dinner. We had lunch.I had a prime rib dip and my wife had breakfast.The food was good. Breakfast looked better than my sandwich. The sandwich was what I would call small for the price.My wife breakfast included hash browns.They were shaped in square that was thick. Nicely browned but not so well done in the middle. She enjoyed her meal.My sandwich was good but as I mentioned it was small. How small. You ever seen the Hawaiian sandwich roll. That small.Maybe fun to visit arcade upstairs . We were at lunch from work so we didnt have the time. They do sport a full bar.This place has been on the show Diners, Drive -ins and Dives. I bet it has changed hand since. That is just a guess.

It’s a nice clean place. The bartender was friendly. Decent beer list. Food was completely mediocre. The donut slider was overcooked and served on a stale tasting donut. The Caesar salad was forgettable. It wasn’t all that!

This is where my family goes for celebratory brunches. They have a fun atmosphere and great food. The prices are average and the service can sometimes be slow. But overall this place is worth a try. Also, if you like waffles they have the best in the city.

Nice place to grab some drinks downtown. The Redhead in Bed was a little sweet for my taste. Violet, You’re Turning Violet was spot on. The wings are smokey, spicy and absolutely delicious. Fun atmosphere.

Really enjoyed the food but might have had too much to eat. The taco burger had really good flavor and it was spicy but not so much that you cant enjoy it. I had a shake and the burger not a good idea. After the shake I was too full to finish the burger. I heated the burger up the next day and it was still delicious. It also has a small arcade upstairs.

Stopped in for breakfast during our day trip to Portland. Nice restaurant. Clean and friendly. The menu is standard...breakfast menu which they serve all day had the most variety, but after that its your typical burgers, sandwiches and salads. The food itself...not typical...very tasty. I just had the burger and it was great. Good portion, juicy, cooked the way I like it and a little messy while eating it...just the way a burger should be. The fries, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. A very good place to have a bite. The last thing that made this a 4-star review...our waitress Stacy. She was great!! Very friendly and engaging...right on top of things...gave us some suggestions about the area...a great great young lady. When we go back well definitely ask to be seated in her serving area...She rocked!

This place was cool because it was open on Christmas morning. It looks like a fun place for nightlife too though because of the bar and arcade games. I didnt get a chance to play though.

I was in here for the first time yestersay. We ordered boozy shakes and breakfast. We got our breakfast first and our shakes half way through or so. The food was so good I got biscuits and gravy and the biscuit was pretty hard on the outside but very soft in the inside. The shake was AMAZING!!!!!! Ill be back to try it again!!!

Writing as locals, my boyfriend and I have been coming here for about 4 years. The menu recently changed and they removed a lot of their amazing items. I suspect they swapped food vendors recently as the items that remain taste like Sysco- lower quality, but they still charge high quality prices. You definitely are no longer getting what you pay for.I have a feeling that this place doesnt make as much money as the owners would like and it is starting to show. Honestly, youre better off elsewhere for the price- there are lots of fantastic local food options (this used to be one of them!) for you to choose from.The staff here is amazing, though and we have always felt welcome. Im sorry to say that we wont be coming back anytime soon. :( What a bummer, we used to make special trips out from Beaverton to eat here!

The best chicken fried steak I have ever eaten. The batter is amazing! Its light and crispy. It had a very fresh fried taste. If you love chicken fried steak come to The Original Dinerant.

Bartenders were really cool. vibe was pretty quiet on a Thursday night. Boozy shakes were incredible, chicken and waffle sliders were ok. incredibly moist chicken and a decent, soft waffle but it was bland. needed some kind of sauce or kick. donut sliders were ok. donuts seemed a bit old, burger didnt really pop. fun to try? sure. but nothing that blows the mind.on this night

Amazingly, these people can cook snything. We went in for a quick one-time bite, and ended up going back again and again. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, these people are very versatile.

With so many options to eat at, it was nice to sit inside an air conditioned restaurant with some great eats. We tried a beet salad and bahn mi burger...yum!

The food is good. The staff is good.The location has become problematic.On our most recent visit, we were treated to the 7pm sidewalk show of a homeless guy squatting right on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant’s windows, leaving a huge #2 on the ground in full view of we lucky patrons who were seated by the windows.Then he stood up and proceeded to pee all over his proud #2.Portland, you have a serious problem. Good restaurants like this will suffer from people like me NOT returning because of your homeless problem, which is not the fault of the restaurant.

The food is pretty good, but they stopped serving my favorite menu item (the elvis sighting, french toast with fried bananas and hazelnuts and bacon and a caramel sauce). The whipped cream tends to be past its expiration date, though. if there was a 3.5 stars, Id rate it that, but its not bad enough to rank a solid 3.

First, the website & outer appearance of this place is charming & modern. I was required to make a reservation, though, I arrived early & the place was practically empty. Hostess wasnt very friendly, no eye contact, had to address her twice because she ignored me the first time I spoke to her. Server was good & friendly, attentive & nice. Food was tasty, but overpriced. My house-made lemon soda was $4 & consisted of lemon juice & club soda, I had to add sugar. I was going to try more food, but I just wont pay $14 for a milkshake with a splash of booze in it. Same goes for a hamburger. I ate chicken & waffles, pretty good.
