Great wk. Traffic was light and motorists were respectful for the most part, as they respected our workzone . We took up a small but crucial spot on congress st. for a major natural gas project. In the background is the famed monument of momument square and a recent new Christmas tree. w/a delightful gift story.
This place is great for haveing lunch or even just looking around. you can sometimes get a little show. pepole walking by can be funny as hell
I have been to Monument Square many times in my life. Monument Square is a lively part of the city. They hold alot of events there. Whether it be private or not. Local artists play live music, there is a bunch of stores, a library, access to a bank, Bus station and a whole lot more. If you are ever in Portland try out a few of the restaurants there Amazing. Please take a moment to press the like button. Thank you graciously
Great open space. Plenty to see in the area. The library is just across the street. The tree lighting is always a fun event. It has become a meeting ground for protests and celebrations. There is all levels of restaurants, eateries, and bars. The Portland Public Market is here. A favorite of mine is Shays. Great starting point for the First Friday ArtWalk.
Its ok. Nothing special. Theres a plaque that you can read. Lots of pigeons and sea gulls though.
Great spot to rest and take in a bit of Portland.
Monument Square has definitely brought us so many Happy memories. From Spiderman, to Trex dinosaurs. Our go to for the fabulous Christmas tree. A great place to people watch. Usually a hot dog vendor during the week is at the square. Parking is available, coffee shops are steps away along with restaurants. Benches for relaxing. And a Farmers market on Wednesdays.
Nice central area and great for history lovers. The problem is that Portland Maine has aggressive homeless. I went to see it, then left quickly. If I wasnt alone and with people, I might have stayed longer. As other reviewers mentioned people do smoke marijuana. I an not a fan, no judgement, only letting others know my experience. Instead of making them chill and laid back, it has turned them into jerks. I wouldnt let that stop you from seeing on such a wonderful area.
Great place to sit and eat lunch and people watch. Also good spot for parades.
Pretty great place!Love the buses, I take them a lot and hang out with friendly fellows on the benches who are publically intoxicated on the fruit of life
The intermingling of all of Portland people in one beautiful part of our city.
Cosy old town.
Just a wonderful spot!!
Its so beautiful and peaceful!! Definitely recommend for any tourist group!
It was a wonderful area to visit and site see. Alot of local shops and restaurants in that area and at times there may be some kind of entertainment. I highly recommend visiting this area. Good atmosphere for picture taking.
The monument is good in the middle of Portsmouth city.
Historical, in the middle of the city. Easy to get dropped off here and discover Portland Maine
Ive lived here my whole life, and monument square is one of my favorite places
This is the nicest square in town. A great place to meet and reflect about life.
Monument Square is a small park on Congress Street, in Portland Maine. The main feature is a lovely statue erected to the memory of the Union Civil War dead, Our Lady of Victories. As it is in an urban area, there are a number of homeless people and drug addicts who congregate there. This is in the arts district of the city, so numerous restaurants, bookstores and art supply stores.
Open space for everyone
It a street look its ok..but no lake or beach sceen....!!!!!
It is a going on area, restaurants, hot dog vendor, life in action. The monument, itself...is in honour of all the men and women who have served, to protect this Country and who have lost their lives, doing so.
The Heart of Downtown Portland. This open air area has benches for sitting, bike racks, and an enclosed city bus stop. The area is surrounded by a variety of establishments, including Longfellows, an award-winning bookstore thats both family and pet friendly. The store sells both new and used books, and offers downtowns largest and most diverse selection of magazines. Also in the immediate area: restaurants, a bakery, a two story mini-mall specializing in natural foods (with a natural foods court), a copy and UPS center, a Key Bank with an ATM, and the city library (with computers for public access).Just up and down the street youll find a post office, a CVS pharmacy, a Subway sandwich shop, multiple clubs and music halls, an Escape Room, an Arts & Crafts store, gently-used designer clothing stores, the Nickelodeon movie theater, historical houses, a parking garage... with much more to discover, explore and appreciate. On Wednesdays, during fair weather seasons, the Square hosts a farmers market...and throughout the year, various arts, business, and social service events are held here, including on the day after Thanksgiving, an evening ceremony ushering in the Holiday season, and lighting up Portlands official Christmas tree.Plus, you can enjoy listening to the occasional busker musicians, and amateur orators compelled to share their views and concerns.
Always a wonderful start to the holiday season with the tree lighting!
Cold but the tree lighting was beautiful...
Good place lots of options. Tryd a little Jamaican food. The beef and chicken jerk were both really good choices.
Its very urban but an exciting city scape and lots of activity.
The farmers market here is absolutely worth the venture. Local produce, music, and quality service from great people. Also art of all forms!
Dinasours show....very fun
Decent seating, little shade. Great for PoGo raids!
Christmas tree lighting . Always festive.
Lots to see and do: shopping, done out, espresso, anyone? And hey, you might just catch some sort of event, rally, celebration, memorial, cause, or the myriad of other things that take place here year round.
Great open air City Park. Police need to be more visible to deter smoking
If you like pokemon go... meet here haha
Nice place
Monument square always has people bustling.
Probably the busiest square in the city. variety of just about everything....
I love this place I would live here if I could
Its pretty and pedestrian friendly, with a farmers 2x/week in the summers. My only complaint is the chain they put up around the monument to keep the homeless from resting there.
I love Portland Maine. Just remember Monument Square is considered a park, so if you smoke do not smoke in the square.
Lots to do and see around here.
Lots of homeless and drugs being done in this area. Monument is nice.lots of great shops around this area.
I love sitting here, its so beautiful
Cute farmers market! Loved Portland
Youve got food and shops. Good place to chill
As a Board Director with the FSMTB it was a pleasure to honor those who served and gave the ultimate sacrifice while in Portland for meetings.
There was a farmers market going in as I was walking Portland. Great flowers and veggies!!
This is a pretty nice place to walk around, there are some good food shops.
This is a great public area. The statue is a nice focal point. Im not sure if this is normally the case but there were a bunch of teenagers hanging out at the base of the statue smoking pot. It ruined what would have been a better family moment.
Great place to spend time in the summer I love how they have the artists and vendors in this area as well really nice to have an active community in and the space to do activities.
Great location and meeting point.
Nice little public area to hang out for a while and enjoy the sounds of the city.
Love the area, always something going on there
Always bright and cheery, even in cloudy weather. Plenty to peak your interest, right across from the best library in Maine (my opinion) and lots of places to get a bite near by and sit in the square and enjoy.
I was quite surprised as to what the square offered! From this point you can practically find anything to your hearts content. Enjoy the local cuisine and shops!
A place where Portland seems to all come together as one
Its Portland got to love it
Love the big burgers, chopped salad, chicken tenders are my go to. Haddock sandwich is another one along with the Cubano. Good bourbon and beer selection. Friendly people working and eating. Jenn and Brian take great care to make sure everything is perfect.
Nice spot with eateries, drinking establishments and local shops.
I love the history at monument Square.
There is so much history in this square, even recent history.
Someone needs to take control of the homeless situation in the city. Cant even take my children for a stroll down Congress Street without getting harassed for money every 50 feet.
Lovely central open space in the heart of Portland
Scenic location with many dining and tourist options. Unfortunately, onsite parking is very limited if you dont want to park in an hourly garage.
Relax Enjoy the fresh air
When I visited here on my cruise holiday,I took a lot of pictures here.
Nice open public square
Everyone feels like they belong here even if your not from around here!
Weather permitting, its a beautiful & historic outdoors location which hosts spontaneous live music, farmers market and performing arts especially during first Friday Art Walks
Historical monument with many nice stores nearby
Rainy Day Impeachment Rally. Wonderful use of that space!!!!
Beautiful in the summer not that great inn the winter lol
Not a bad area. A lot of homeless hang out and ask for money. Area does have a famers market and good dining. Good central location to meet friends.
This is a beautiful city the architecture is amazing
Its sad to see all the welfare people strung out and wandering around the city. Send more refugees
Alot of great businesses are here
Amazing sight to see
A lot of local places for food / drink here, along with just enjoying the square and sight seeing. Also where a lot of events form in Portland.
Nice but getting dirty in town with so many homeless people.
Lots to do around here. The public library here has free wifi and bathrooms. Art Museum here and has a nice small outdoor art garden thats free.
