It was very relaxing, a lot to sight see. They need to put work on the walk ways to the bridges. Not safe. Also the water, or swamp seems to be rising. So its really close to being level with the bride. Other than that, beautiful scenery.

The playground had a unique nature theme that was super fun for the girls. The trails were well maintained. And, the bathroom was pretty good for a public park restroom!

West Lake NP is beautiful! Well marked trails with mulch ground cover make this 1.4 mile trail loop easy to trek. Not very well known, West Lake is lightly trafficked with fellow hikers and has abundant wildlife. After rains, expect the marsh to swell as well as the wetlands area near West Lake.

Beautiful area for birthdays or just a fun day out with the family. The kids section has equipment that looks well maintained and safe, and the public bathrooms were astonishingly clean. There are lots of cool paths that lead to neat areas to see animals in their natural habitat. My nephew loved the turtles near the dock we found. The paths seem well used and there are guard rails on areas near water for safety. Overall a great place.

Great place to take the kids, small park for them to play on. Trails are all very well groomed and even stroller friendly if ypu have a fairly decent stroller. Lots of wildlife and wetlands to explore and a hidden teepee in the woods. Love it!

The marsh trail is shut down but the bog walk is still open. Enjoy some wild blueberrys is finding carnivorous plants! Dont bring your dog if you wanna do the board walks. The material will burn puppy paws on a sunny day.

A diverse, well-kept park with something for everyone. The playground is new and has a unique nature/bug theme. The hiking paths are full of wildlife and traverse several different environments (forest, prairie, Marsh, lake). Great park for families.

I really enjoy the Nature Preserve, always see at least a few deer. The trails are nice, but BEWARE of wet feet if you walk on any of the plastic docks, these need to be overhauled, and one of them has been closed for ages, which is a shame, they are a great way to see the wetlands. Very diverse plant life, realaxing walk.

Peaceful hiking location. Trails are easy, as close to flat throughout as you can imagine. It isnt unusual to see deer in early fall and early spring, if youre quiet.

One of the best places to enjoy and reconnect with nature in Kalamazoo area. Every spring I go there to take pictures of snowdrops. Its a great place to hike with your family and new playground is very nice for my toddler daughter.

The most beautiful suburban park in all of west Michigan. The hiking trail is great, with parts of the trail floating on the Marsh. Once you get near the end, it feels like youre a million miles from nowhere. Cant say enough about the beauty of this special, magical place. My daughter would like me to add that we saw quite a few water beetles, peat moss, and water skimmers.

What an adventure and right in the middle of the city. A paved trail through a shady forest first offers views of a marshy wetland from two separate docks, but keep heading for its real jewel -- a wetlands bog featuring tamarack trees, cattails, carnivorous pitcher plants and sphagnum moss. You transverse the bog on a narrow floating boardwalk which sometimes squirts and splashes water, so wear appropriate footwear. (Kids love this part, by the way. Prepare for what happens when they jump up and down!) The boardwalk ends with an observation deck offering a breezy view of West Lake. Approach quietly and you will probably see some frogs. Download a self-guided tour brochure from the Portage Parks website to make this easy hike even more educational. At the park entrance there are restrooms, a water fountain and a playground. We love visiting here no matter the season and I always bring along a camera.

A lot of insects, but a great place to explore nature. I recommend the floating dock on the marsh, just be prepared to get a little wet. Also, check out the trails across Westnege Aveenue toward the back of the softball diamonds. One paved trail leads to the Eliason preserve trails which are a 5 star place to explore.
