We stopped here for the picnic tables at the pavilion in the evening, and we got a great view of the lake. There is parking right at the pavilion but you can also park at other lots on the trail and have a nice walk to the pavilion. There is also a beach area where there were several families, even though it wasnt that warm.
Great bike trail, river walk is peaceful and beautiful with a quality boardwalk. Bathroom facility is well kept and new.
Pretty, clean, small beach. The boardwalk was a fun little stroll.
A great place to sit a look at the water.
It isnt crowded and the scenery is breathtaking.
Saw 2 bucks in the woods by the training center
A very nice quiet walk. We saw various types of wildlife but you need to watch the shoreline closely to see whats there
Fairly long paved trail... Nice view of dunes not much of a beach there, but worth a stop for a walk
Fantastic place to take in the lake while getting some exercise and or fishing. I just wish they would fix what needs fixing...
Super nice paved trail, furr babies loved it too
Joint lakefront park between Portage Parks Dept. and National Lake shore. Bathrooms and drinking fountains available. Scenic trails in the sand dunes. Public beachfront. Fishing. Decent parking. Beautiful views of Lake Michigan and Chicago skyline in clear weather. Open dawn to dusk. Not very wheelchair accessible. Whole complex being upgraded with more buildings.
Its a very nice place two walk the dog a take my walk two
A wonderful place among the various huge industries in the surrounding area. though I have been here most of the time in spring/winter for birding, I expect it to be a great place in summer as well. it has all the facilities and nice hiking trails.
Great place to cast a line and catch some fish
Great place to let your mind wander.
Beautiful and great place to fish
5 star for places without a lot of people
Nice scenery and walking paths
Nice place to go if your looking for some where to go and it’s quiet and peaceful
Beautiful. This is a great place to hike. Hopefully they get the money to fix the erosion problem and reopen the beach area.
Interesting reclamation project, showing the possible future of the dunes when the rest of the heavy industry leaves and the land becomes public. Nice place for a walk or for fishing and is an access to a beach as well.
Loved the view here! The lakefront has a large and beautiful beach. On a clear day you can see the Chicago skyline.
I loved it, I could spend all my weekends here. Parking area is relative closed to the beach. There is not grilling allow but you can always buy food here or bring your own. We were here for Mothers Day and Had a Blast. Hardly recommend.
Rather nice walk and park. Difficult to get to beach area currently due to dune erosion.
Update ! The beach is now accessable, but you have to walk down a fenced path in the sand on the top of a dune, then down to a Much smaller beach. Not handicap accessible.
Lake a wak
Years ago the ditch was dirty. A pool of green polluted water from the mill in the dunes. The pier washed over and dangerous to walk on . Now a beautiful river walk, pier, and natural dune plants. Love it and open to all free. Thanks.
Love this place. Beautiful and great walking path for my dog and I.
Great location for a park and hanging out with family and friends.
Go see it before its gone!
Awesome place to watch the waves crash when there are north winds!
Very nice and peaceful. Paved walking path, a pavilion and a beach
Clean all the way ...beautiful to enjoy some fishing and swimming
Place is amazing! Portage needs to do something about US Steel polluting the waters though. Dont go in water unless you have seen recent water tests or tested yourself. I went the morning of Oct. 25 2017 and hexavalent chromium had just spilled in that morning. Ben gravy on youtube has a video about it...I was there that day bodyboarding. Such a shame
Beautiful sunsets and a nice place to walk.
Beautiful site. Had a great time.
My favorite place to go for sunsets in Portage. Neat little walking/biking trail from further up the road and the pier is always nice to check out.
I miss it when it was a large area and all of the structures were still attached. Now its almost sad to look at it and see the destroyed paths and what erosion has done to it.
Tried to get to this park, but the GPS didnt quite have the entrance correct. The entrance is a little further west from the address in the Indiana guide book. Then it seems like you are entering a factory, but if you persist, you will get there. The pavilion is beautiful, the breakfront is a nice walk, saw a heron catch a minnow. People fished off the breakfront. The beach looked fun, but we didnt have swimsuits. The dunes are closed so go the the Dunes state park if you wish to hike.
This place is trash! All is washed away with no upkeep.
Love this place
Worse beach for water activities. I hate the way Burns Ditch empties out into it. Similar design as New Buffalo but I give New Buffalo a pass because it is more beach resort vibe with more activity and people.
It would be nice if dog waste would be picked up. Dogs were on leash not running lose.
I found this awesome beach one day when I was lost and have been going back for the last five years all the way from Chicago.
Love this place. Got married here last June... So sad that its falling apart and there is not much beach left
Lake is heavy seaweed but nice bass fishing
Great view of the lake
Pretty clean
Nice view of the lake

Had a blast
Great place for a sunset!
