Randomly came across this trail one day. Not too far from my house. It’s a really cool, unique hime. Beautiful scenery, lots to explore and see. Also has so really awesome views of the city from up high as well which is a pretty cool bonus.

I have been enjoying these trails for thirty years. I raised my children hiking these trails. My dogs love hiking this trail. I use to mountain bike here also but it hurts my back so only hiking these days. People are always friendly!

I have hiked the two-bit peak trail and the view at the top is amazing! The parking lot fills up fast, so good luck finding a spot on the street. Dogs are allowed, but it is a difficult hike so I personally do not recommend bringing your dog.

Best FREE Health Club in the Valley of the Sun! Great hiking, mountain biking and equestrian trails for all levels. Keep your eyes open for the variety of local inhabitants, from the endangered desert tortoise to the Gila monster, elusive bobcats, several species of rattle snakes and much more! Conscientious regular hikers keep litter and dog waste to a bare minimum, creating a beautiful microcosm of the Sonoran desert right in the middle of the city (good parking, clean pit toilets, a ramada with picnic tables and drinking fountain at the trailhead).

Nice little network of trails. There are a couple more of them than are shown on Google Maps. The ones I explored were easy at first, then got a little more difficult but still not that bad. You can gain a lot of elevation here and get some stunning views without too much work because the slopes are so gradual. Great place to take a person whos new to hiking and maybe not in such great shape. I was here because I had heard it was easy and I had a foot injury and a bum ankle that was acting up. It was a good choice. Just outside the park I also saw a flock of quail, a jackrabbit and a coyote that was standing literally 15 yards away from me. I wish I had thought to snap a picture. Will definitely return,.

Gorgeous views of the city. Public restrooms at the bottom. My first hike & it was rocky. The parking lot is small so expect to park on the street. I went at 9am on a Saturday. I wish the signs along the trails were more clear. We have no clue which trail we took but we ended at the top of Tip Top Peak.

This Phoenix City Park located at the southern tip of 40th street. The access is through Shea Avenue. There are washrooms located in the parking lot but no running water. There is an area for off loading horses and mountain bikes. There is a horse trailer parking area. The trek up to the main mountain is very rocky so hiking boots are recommended although running shoes with good soles should suffice. There are many approaches to this mountain. Many trails but the main trail is well marked until you get to rocky areas where you can pick your own route to the top. Dogs are allowed on leash. There is a trail that runs around the mountain base that is flat. You can easily see this trail from the main trail. It goes east and west. The hike to the flat plateau is about 40 min and then there is a 2-3 min climb to the pinnacle which affords an excellent view of Phoenix and Scottsdale. From this point there are about 4 ways down to the main parking lot. There are beautiful sunsets and if you wear head gear lighting or use a flashlight you can night hike. The park gate to ENTER is locked at sunset however you can drive out any time but not in after that time, It is a beautiful hike well worth the time spent.

Very Rocky and the ascent becomes steep fast. Getting to the top took us one hour and we had children with us. And the climb down is about 45 minutes because of the rocky path. It is a fun climb is in fall. We were caught in the rain too on our way back but that gave the hike a perfect ending

Seems like a small mountain area, but once youre on it you can hike for a couple of hours and never repeat a trail. Challenging steep trails as well as fairly flat trails; mix em up or just choose based on your ability or how youre feeling that day. Usually not very crowded.

This is a great place to hike for all level of hikers, with several trails to choose from. The views are awesome and I often bring my young kids out here. There is plenty of parking off of 40th street, south of Shea, the lot can fill up on the weekends, but many people just park on 40th street then. There are clean restrooms (no running water), as well as a covered picnic area. The trail can get busy with mountain bikers so be cautious and make sure you can hear them approaching from behind you. Dont forget your water and your sunscreen!

Decent place for easy hiking in a desert. People run, bike, walk, and ride horses here. Parking situation is not great, a bit of wasted space could have been included for more parking. Normally park outside on the street which is not ideal for many reasons. Nice area for easy hiking, been going there for a couple decades and other than when they added the parking lot and restrooms the place is almost identical to when I first went there.

I left my very expensive collapsible black diamond hiking poles in the parking lot today Sunday Feb 21st. I went back but of course they were gone. If you found them please contact me.Other than that the hike was good. We took the quartz ridge trail. I wouldnt say its easy to moderate I would say its closer to moderate. Very rocky. The views at the top are well worth the hike up even though it was very hot. Im from Seattle so our trails are very shaded and we are always looking for the sun, here it was the exact opposite. No shade and wishing there was some on this unseasonably hot day in February. I was glad to have my poles coming back down but then I always am after more than my share of tailbone landings on slippery downhills. Unfortunately I fear my poles are long gone unless the person who picked them up reads this and finds it in their heart to contact me.

Additionally, South Mountain Park is sometimes included in this group. These parks largely consist of small mountains and adjacent foothills that reach about 2,000 feet (roughly 600 meters) above the desert floor. They also interrupt the checkerboard pattern of Phoenixs built environment and are quite prominent, especially since most of the city is flat and gridded. Since the largest part of the Phoenix metropolitan area sits at just over 1,000 feet (around 300 meters) above sea level, that means most of the peaks reach about 3,000 feet (under 1,000 meters) above sea level.Originally, the park system began with Piestewa Mountain Park and North Mountain Park as county parks. However, most of the existing municipal park system was acquired in the early 1970s when Phoenixs ever-expanding development threatened to go hiking everyday.

The trails are many. Some not well marked. Some people dont keep their dogs on leash like they are supposed to. Making it difficult for others with horses. Im glad to see doggy bags being used...but not picked up! They are just left next to the trail. People might be intending to pick it up later, but...the poop bags remain. REALLY! If you cant expect to pick up after your dog, then dont get one. We all enjoy a clean trailhead. So those of us with dogs, pack it out! Thank you.
