I really enjoy coming to this trial. It is definitely one of the busy ones. The views are beautiful both morning and night. Plenty of parking spots open to the public as well as bathrooms. I do recommend coming a bit early because the parking lot gets full quickly. The trial starts off with rocky rocks as you go further up it turns into a road that goes and loops all the way up. The more you go up the harder it gets to keep going. It is a great trail to relive some stress and get a good workout. Your legs will definitely feel sore. Time says its open from 5am -7pm but Ive been there around 8:00pm and still see people hiking. I definitely recommend coming and checking it out.

Great trail system. We visited after Thanksgiving 2020 during Covid-19 and for some reason the rangers closed the road up towards the South Mountain lookout 2 hours before it was officially supposed to be closed. That was annoying as there was no specific reason why they would do that aside from making ppl miss the sunset.

This is the go-to spot for a scenic view of metro Phoenix! The climb is a bit intense at times, so be sure to bring plenty of water. For first time climbers, Id reccomend coming at dawn or dusk; the sun can add another variable to consider. If you can make it to the peak, there is no better vantage... you can see Scottsdale, Surprise, Tempe, Goodyear and downtown Phoenix on decent days; even further on days the air quality is high!

I love hiking. I know several spots in Phoenix for a good hike. I hike every week and every time I go down the mountain I wish elevators exist for places like this. Well, North Mountain is the closest to my dream, I can hike up the dirt and rocks and return trough the paved trail reducing the chances of an accident. the views are amazing. The paved trail is also good for those that need to push a stroller or just want to be safer and still to get a super workout. I do this mountain up and down in one hour.

About 30min of a hike up if you go at a steady pace and minimal rests. Once you get to the top, theres a road you can go down on if you feel unsteady going down the way you came up. Definitely a workout on the legs going down as well. Picnic sites at the bottom, lovely view at the top.

There are different places to park with a ranger station nearby. The Trails have a couple that have lots of incline, and at least one that is very flat for those who dont like to go up.Theres a decent number of people hiking there, so you dont feel completely isolated. But be careful, people do take their dogs there so watch where you step. I also saw a owner with a pitbull on the trail so be careful

I love the trails! The mountain is a good challenge, partially paved and absolutely beautiful. There are picnic tables at the base of the mountain and bathrooms. It feels unfair to judge this park in its current condition, but seeing as how the improvement project has no end in sight, my review of average still stands. I appreciate the money and time being spent to make North Mountain better, though I no longer put much stock in any of the posted end dates because theyve been pushed back often. The paved paths are great for inexperienced hikers, who can focus more on the steep uphill climb rather than worry about footing. Before closing down the my two favorite trails, this was an amazing place to view the valley in all directions so hopefully it reopen soon.Note: Though you can still reach the pinnacle, I was not a fan of the new/temporary path because it was much more narrow/crowded. Less experienced hikers or families with kids/dogs should take extra caution due to the jagged terrain.

I went hiking here with my sister while she was visiting. We did trail #44 North Mountain National Trail, and I was fairly certain it was going to kill me a couple times, lol. Once we got to the top there were great views of the city. We continued on with the trail the rest of the way around. It was pretty challenging, and kind of unstable at some points with all the loose rock. Overall, a good challenge on a beautiful day.

North Mountain Park is a rare jewel among the north central area of Phoenix. The regional park is the favorite of hikers. Traversing the many trails the Park offers will certainly give you a good workout while enjoying the splendor of a beautiful Sonoran desert. The park is well managed with clean facilities for picnic, hiking or sightseeing while enjoying the rugged landscape that Arizona is known for. Highly recommended and highly appreciated. The top view on North Mountain is breath taking showing the whole metropolitan region of 4.7 million people. You will see from the top that Phoenix is surrounded by beautiful but bare mountain scape that is hard to describe its beauty. Just come and enjoy what Nature has given to Phoenix, and enjoy.

I call this The Never-ending Trail. I believe it was trail 44. If you want to get a good workout in, this is the mountain for you. Not the hardest Ive done but when you think youve reached the top, theres more to come. It ends off where the Towers are, then you can continue down a winding paved road. And the view at the top is spectacular!

Hiking to the top of NM is pretty intense. Not super hard but a few spots of good elevation gain. In some ways more challenging than Camelback (yes, I just wrote that!). Good views of the area. Unfortunately, as of this writing In April 2019, part of the area near the antennas has been fenced off. My biggest complaint with this hike is the crowds. Too many people and too many of them playing their music without headphones. I also recommend running a couple of miles around the parking lot before hiking.

Great hiking trail for beginners. Where it ends it connects to a paved vertical incline. The incline is very gradual. On the opposite side of where I began my hike it is all paved and a vertical winding incline that is great for elderly and young children who are less athletic. Perfect place for a quick hike with lots of sun exposure.

I love hiking this mountain in Phx because its not too hard but pushes me just enough! If you hike from the visitors center to the very top, it gives you a nice warm-up and the rest of the hill is paved. The views are absolutely worth the hike, and its faster getting to the top than Shaw Butte (in my opinion)!

Plenty of parking - two trails to hike/check out - plenty of picnic benches (covered & not) along with a small paved nature trail. There is also a paved Walk Phoenix walking path that you can do - it is 0.8 mile round trip. For todays outing, I chose hike trail #44 and it starts off as a dirt path which appears to be uneven stairs. Pretty level then a steep incline. Once at top of dirt path, a paved path leads you to the top of North Mountain. Overall, perfect for a short day hike.
