Love love love this place!! Super interesting and small enough that you wont feel overwhelmed or guilty about really taking your time to read through everything. They have wonderful after hours programming as well. I think dino drafts is probably the most popular, but theres others as well! Best dino museum Ive ever been to (and it isnt JUST dinosaurs there!)
Terrific museum to spend some time learning about how both our past and present effect our future. Gallery is well organized and exhibits were all done extremely well. Staff was both friendly and attentive. In this world of Covid 19, they did a great job of cleaning in the time we were visiting. Highly recommended!
A beautiful place place. Good for children specially.
Really great weekend spent at the museum - for Bug Fest. Kids learned so much and had a great time looking at everything there is to offer. Thank you to all the volunteers who answered questions, were ever so helpful and kind, and made the experience a positive one. It really is a gem of a spot to visit. Definitely take a day out to visit!
It complies with the health regulations in the time of COVID19, affordable price, an excellent option to learn and spend a good day with the family.
Had a blast learning about all the dinosaurs. The kids enjoyed the big dig! Outside in room was awesome and petting the animals was tons of fun. This place is great for field trips or nice way to spend a rainy day. Admission is reasonable and there is a cafe downstairs .
It was a fantastic museum to visit!! We learned a lot and had fun going there during our wedding anniversary trip! Definitely worth going!!
Great museum for families and kids of all ages. Great exhibits. Would definitely recommend going.
I had an absolute blast here! It has all of the classic natural history museum staples: Dinosaur fossils, taxidermy dioramas, insects.Everything in the museum is displayed in well thought out and visually interesting ways, with a bit more flare than I have seen in other museums. They have a butterfly conservatory that has a fantastic variety, is well maintained, and not as unbearably humid as others Ive been in.The dioramas had more character to them than any Ive seen before, and the taxidermy is of better quality as well. The dinosaur fossil exhibits were put together nicely, and theres even a place to observe paleontologists at work. The staff here are all lovely, the gift shop has a great selection, and its both a great place for kids and adults alike.
Is for adults and kids you learn about nature of the animal kingdom. Starting with the Dinosaurs to insects and many other scientific research. They look almost alive. Definitely I have to comeback, because one afternoon is not enough to admire all. I always go to visit my daughter. So I’ll be there
Born and raised in Temple Hospital North Broad st of Philadelphia Pennsylvania, growing up in North Philly the first time ever visiting the Dinosaur Museum it was awesome, Loved it ... Next Marvel Museum .
It was real nice just wish they had more tour guidr to explain more about the cool stuff they have.
Nice small museum. Was disappointed that so many displays were closed, but still had a good time. Great dinosaur room.
This 1 is in my top 5 of Philadelphia museums. This has some of the koolest stuff u will ever c in a museum. COWBOYEDD
I enjoy going to this museum so much. I love the Butterflies exhibit and the dinosaurs the most! Best place to take your kids all year round. I highly recommend for anyone who enjoys science and learn. It isnt my 1st time hear and it wont be my last!
Amazing experience at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University. This is the one that came highly recommended from the locals and we could see why. Superb exhibitions and my daughter, 14 at the time, loved it. This was a highlight for us. We had a wonderful visit and toured as many museums as we could in 4-5 days.
Love coming here. The mythical creatures exhibit was pretty cool. Dino dig and the giant sandbox are always a favorite when we go. Staff always very friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable.
Awesome museum, the exhibits were amazing. We even got to see an actual Stegosaurus skeleton (not a plaster cast) being worked on to remove it from the rocks. She also got to hold a real neck bone from a saurapod! Being that she has been wanting to be a paleontologist since she was 3 (now almost 8 yrs old), that was like a dream come true for her! The butterfly exhibit was neat, as was the insect exhibit they had. The staff was great and knowledgeable.
I grew up in Philadelphia and visited here so many times. Today brought back so many awesome memories. Many thanks to Nick who allowed a few people to see this baby sloth!
Awesome visit and exhibits, including some live animals like sloths, snakes or spiders. The only thing: they need to open all the spaces and may offer a little bit more experiences during the visit.
Must see museum in Philly. Evokes the mighty American Museum of Natural History in New York but more accessible. Wonderful interactive exhibits for children. Dinosaur exhibit is a big hit with the little ones. We paid up for the Bugs exhibit- it was OK, could leave it off the itinerary if pressed for time. Pro tip: reciprocal admission honored for ASTC.
This place is so nice! Great trip. They have a lot of exhibits to explore and things that you can learn.
What a fascinating place. I have been to Philly many times and overlooked this building. Never again. The staff was extremely friendly and willing to explain anything. Bathrooms were clean and accessible. The exhibits are well spaced and within reach so you can take some great pictures. The butterfly walkway is a must!
When you give your 4 almost 5 year old the option of or superheroes, hell take dinosaurs. He ran through the Museum with a smile from ear to ear until we had to leave. Thank you!
Dinosaurs. The fossils are obviously a BIG draw, but theres so much more than that. There are so many interactive activities for kids of all ages, so. many. butterflies., life-sized animal dioramas, and a lot of bathrooms. A kid-friendly place with conveniently located bathrooms throughout is honestly my parent dream.
Perfect for my 3, 7 and 8 year old! We had the whole family come (my sister and her 2 kids 3 and 5) and my older parents. It was the perfect size for everyone and we got to see the baby sloth ! The butterfly garden was awesome and the kids has a blast in the dino dig.
I had a very good time, plenty of history to see and a great place for kids.
Had a blast at Paleopalooza, very friendly staff with great exhibits. We will definitely be back to explore more!
Lovely museum that we strongly recommend you to visit. Now they have the dinosaur exhibition which is really good. Don’t miss that one!
Cute museum. Went for a field trip. Staff is all very kind and really great with the kids.easy to see entire museum in 1 visit. Definitely recommend for kids, ecspecially fans of dinosaurs!
This place is really more for kids. As far as natural history museums go, it is pretty lackluster for the price you pay. The dinosaurs out front make it look like its really cool, but its pretty old school.
A wonderful place to visit. Very well kept attractions are interesting the layout is accommodating. Watch the live animal demonstration it was Absolutely amazing. So when in philly this is a must see.
We saw dinos, sea creatures, dragons and so much more. Had A really good time walking around looking at all the displays. There was a dino dig place for the kids. made a little red light at the star chart science lab. Best part is my kid walked so much he was so sleepy. Try the tacos the best.
We took the kids on Sunday, got there at 10:45. The line to enter went smoothly(purchased tickets online-$2 discount). We ate a some snacks from the cafe. Very good service...food pretty normal, for a museum... No frills. The museum itself, was clean, and very amusing. Interactive exhibits were great for the kids. My youngest is obsessed with dinosaur bones, and they had more than most museums. Didnt make it to the shows, but Im sure they were good. It took about 2 hours to get through, moving pretty fast. It is also very handicap accessible. Great 1st museum for my kids, now they want to go to them all. **Also close(walking distance) to other Philadelphia museums.**
This iconic museum is wonderful for a weekend outing with family. What kid isn’t exited about dinosaurs? The butterfly exhibit is spectacular. Kids get to dig for fossils. Very cool. A great morning or afternoon diversion.
Great exhibits! One of our favorites from our trip.
Glad its reopened. Sorry the store was closed. Not crowded. Need to go support them so we dont lose our museums
My nephew loved it! He us 4 yrs old. Great for kids.
Great variety of displays and informative museum staff. Our kids enjoyed the animals, and several employees offered them fun facts and encouraged them in their learning.
Great place to take the kids, great for the whole family. Very educational and fun.
Great place for young and old alike! Couple hours flew by for us
Awesome place for family especially my kids love the butterflies. Highly recommended 5 stars *****
This place is more than a museum! You will see how they are connected with archeological expeditions finding dinosaur bones and fossils. A great place for the family to visit.
Natural history at its best. Dino fossils and account very informative. Must visit for children
Amazing place. Never seems to be too busy. At least in a Sunday. The kiddos like it well enough to keep going back, at least to humor their dad enough. I admittedly like it more than they do. How about those still life exhibits? Expertly curated, beautiful, and PRESERVED. They were designed in the 30’s! Amazing.
Nice place to take the kids during the week. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The little hands on lessons are great for the kids and they keep them interested. Not as big as I remembered when I was a kid but there is a lot of interesting things to learn about. Watching the employees work on fossils while give giving information about the procedure was nice pretty cool.
We went here on a school trip It was educational and the students enjoyed learning about the animals, especially dinosaurs! They also had a live animal show with an owl and snake, an indoor butterfly exhibit and a baby sloth.
Wonderful artifacts! Delightful living creatures like butterflies! Friendly staff!
This was a lot more entertaining and enjoyable that i though it would be. Would recommend for all kids to visit from 6 to 14. We didnt even spend the extra for the dino part.
Very cool place and good explanation about animals! I highly recommend to visit a section with “slow” animals.
Butterfly exhibit currently closed, otherwise my 2 year old enjoyed the survival of the slowest exhibit!
Always loved coming here as a kid and now I brought my own daughter and she had a blast. Great place to enjoy as a family.
A very educational experience not only for children, but adults as well. My family loved the exhibits here. Thanks for the experience!
Still a great museum! Hadnt been in many years, but still a well presented museum with lots to see and do to fill an afternoon with the kids. Also, pleasantly surprised that the cafe was reasonably priced and tasted decent. I have a yearly membership so will be back a few times.
Never over crowded (since Covid at least) and a lot to see. Butterfly exhibit closed, but has rotating special exhibits.
Great place to spend the day, lots of exhibits to keep kids occupied. Only downside was the cafe- they completely ran out of mac and cheese, 15 minute wait for plain pizza, baked fries were soggy and gross. Next time well pack a lunch! Overall a great experience.
We took our daughter here for her 4th Birthday and she had a ball as she loveesss dinosaurs. The staff are friendly, there are quite a few exhibits, and its larger than it appears to be than the outside looking end. If your looking to save money steer clear of the gift shop you can easily spend $50 on two items, which is to be expected.
Lots of dinosaur sculptures, interactive activities like fossil digging, green screen, live bugs, live reptiles, and play area. Lots to learn and explore. There is also a live butterfly garden for an extra fee. There is a limited time exhibit of dragons and mermaids but its not worth the extra fee. Overall, fun and educational activity for the entire family. There are restrooms on each floor. There is a cafe on the ground floor.
I thought it was surprising that it was so much but its still worth it. Employees were very nice. Loved it! I didnt take that many pictures but only because I was so engrossed in reading everything!
Very fun and educational. Very family friendly and all of the staff we encountered was helpful. The extreme bugs exhibit was awesome. Anyone 2 and under is free and its a good cpuple of hours of entertainment.
I was very surprised by how interesting The Academy of Natural Sciences is! We visited it after we had spent a few hours at The Franklin Institute (they are right across the way from each other) and it was the perfect end to our science-filled day.The Academy isnt big, but their displays are interesting & well-maintained (they were even renovating some dioramas while were were there). The kids had fun at The Big Dig, where they got goggles & an archeologist tool to try their hands at an excavation. Also, we spent some time in the butterfly room checking out the various species of moths and butterflies flying around. The staff was very friendly, helpful, & knowledgeable. We had a great chat with one of the women working there about their tortoise (who my kids thought was really cute, btw). The Academy is a great stop on your trip to Philly & it wont take up too much of your day to explore.
This was my first time and I was not disappointed. I loved the outside in exhibit where the live animals were. I also loved the arrangement of the displays. Everything was so life like. Ill definitely go back for another visit!
I have been to many great museums in Europe and I have to say this one is of the same caliber and has become one of my most favorite museums. The ticket price is quite high but believe me it is totally worth it. The background for the amazing real-looking animals is stunning, hand painted. I had the chance to see one (background) in the process and it is remarkable. The whole museum was enjoyable and my favorite were the dinosaurs. The dinosaur wing has amazing views of the outside so you can enjoy part of your day there too. The machine that takes you back in time for funny pictures (thanks to the green screen) was a reallt fun addition. I also liked that there were seats close to the dinosaurs so you could take cool pictures. The store is pretty great too. I also want to add how great the butterfly wing (no pun intended) was. I had the chance to see butterflies after so many years and before entering I saw for the first time a mantis! How great that was. In summary I had lots of fun and hope to visit it again in the future.
Daughter loved it. Good time. The dinosaur exhibits were awesome!
Both of my granddaughters had a great time! And us adults too! Thank you.
Always lots of fun. Liked the butterfly area and of course thr dinosaurs
This place was a lot of fun for my 3 year old. The dinosaur exhibit was very cool and kept her engaged for more than 1 hour. There was also an interesting green room that inserts you into videos of wild animals, which was fun. Overall, there are sufficient activites and exhibits to keep the kids engaged for a few hours.I recommend upgrading to the yearly pass because its likely you and your kids will want to visit at least one more time in a year.
Always a fun time learning. My 2.5 year old loves “dinosaur bones” so he was through the roof today to enjoy the day with the dinosaurs. I’m a teacher and I always loved taking my students as well because there’s so much to see and do. Kind employees and perfect for all ages
Its amazing place and provide for family fun in 3 floor. Theres a lot of activites such as The Big Dig in 2 floor. It has good map description. Also, I am so enjoy since I visit dinosaurs exhibits. Theres fantastic area for children to experience the digital dinosaurs with action of moviem I cant explain more. I recommend you to visit The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University if your family is plan to go Philadelphia. This is good for family to visit museum with kids activities area.
I took my nephew there (age 6) and he had the best time ever. He couldn’t stop talking about the experience where you unearthed fossils. Personally, I have to give a shout out to the woman working the front desk on 11/23. She was so nice and helpful! Great job all around!
My 8 yo daughter and I had a blast exploring this museum. She enjoyed digging in sand, playing archeologist, and reading the information on all of the displays. If it werent for the former, she wouldnt have done the latter.
Dollar for dollar I think this is a great museum. Its run by Drexel university and I believe this is a better experience then the better known Franklin institute. Check out the new baby dinosaurs exhibit- my kids loved it. The docents are knowledgeable and host little interactive stands throughtout exhibit space. The food in the cafe is sub par so consider eating before or after your visit.
It was an amazing experience with my kids I felt like a was in the movie night at the museum.......
Great quick museum! 1hr 30min! Came for the mythical creature exhibit, highly recommended!!!
Its a really amazing place for kids to explore about science and animals. It has live butterfly zone. And it will give you an idea about lot of animals from asia and Africa along with north America. You can see animals like Bengal tiger, guerrillas, red pandas, many more.Note: No live animals except butterflies...Logan square parking is in front of the meuseum. Just 100ft walk to meuseum.Parking costs you 10 usd in weekends.Have fun!
Its a great place! Incredibly family friendly, tons to learn, lots of hands on stuff. I mean who doesnt love dinosaurs? Make sure you absolutely get the tickets for the butterflies, but remember its HOT in there, so a locker for coats and jackets might be worth it. If you have young kids be prepared to spend ALL DAY in the hands on floor, but it is absolutely worth it.
Just wow! Dinos exhibit was my 11 year olds favorite, and if your looking for T-rex bones, they greet you at the door! Along with polar bear and brown bear standing taxidermy. The dioramas are really a work of art and need to be seen in person! Only a few levels, but everything is done very well. Found out the hard way that the outside in area is a zoo! Seriously, dont take your child on this floor unless there are a very few people in the museum. It is a crowded free for all. All kids running wild and parents just standing around. Cool stuff for the kids to do, but its like a park shoved into a 12x16 room.
The Academy conducts an incredible amount of research and is a world scientific leader. Their exhibits and programming are always fun and informative, with a great variety of dioramas! I always have a wonderful time here.
Great place to take kids of all ages - especially those who love dinosaurs!!
Not huge but Very densy & interesting place, especially for kids. I regreted visit without my son.
Fantastic place for kids and adults. Ive been going here my whole life and its better than ever! The butterfly room, the dioramas, the dinosaurs. Look for the crystals from Media, PA. And Mineral Hill Pa which is located along the highway on the Media Bypass
The Academy is really fun, especially with little kids. They love the animal group windows and all of the dinosaurs and the dino dig area was a hit.
Smaller scaled down version of the Smithsonian. love the displays. Only downside is the congestion from the busy time we went
This place has gotten a lot better since I was a kid. Theyre renovating a bunch of exhibits right now, which is good because they were crumbling. Nice place to spend a few hours, and great gift shop.
I had no idea there were so many species of dinosaurs...this was a great learning experience
Good learning experience place for kids. However, the cafe is small and congested; not enough room. We ordered chicken tenders and baked potato wedges. Both the dishes were average.
We visited last Sunday 2/16/20 and had such a great experience with Josh! He took out a bunch of insects and arachnids for us (including the Moroccan cockroaches) and was very knowledgeable and great to talk to. Thank you Josh for such a memorable experience!
Great education museum for kids to adults. We love it here. You can learn a lot!
Really nice, went on a Saturday morning not too busy because it was nice outside by myself. It’s not a large museum but if you take your time you can turn it into a couple peaceful hours. Museum skews younger, lots of questions next to exhibits like “what do you think the dinosaur ate” and the Dino dig and top floor are definitely for little ones. Plenty of adult content too, enough to learn something but not enough to be oppressive and where you read more than you look. $26 well spent. All the staff are very friendly including gift shop and cafe, that was nice. Food was reasonably priced and fresh (enough). Worth going at least once if you’ve never been.
Great experience and weather! Cant wait until next year. Speaking life into my youth. #TUGrad
Went there this weekend. Kids are old. But me and my husband still appreciate going. Its still fun to be a kid. Well kept. Clean. Fun. Great place for kids or pretending to be one.
Its a nice outing for families
Fun filled day trip for friends and family. Take a look across the world at creatures of today and yesterday. And dont forget to check out the butterfly room full of dozens of different species.
The museum was an amazing experience for kids, there were many variety of things and stations that would keep kids entertained. The combination of live animals and taxidermy exhibition was also stimulating. A memorable visit and would recommend to others.
Awesome . Must go, kids take!!
It is a great museum for children. Some exhibits arent reality, and very few real life experiences. If you have kids, this is a great places to learn about mammals and different animals on different continents. They have 3 levels with different exhibits. Overall, a nice experience
