I have always wanted to find this statue. When I saw my friends post that he and his family had walked the trails to the statue I insisted they take me. Thank you Robert Outterbridge and family for making my dream come true!! Pictures prove the fact. For people with joint issues, take something before you go! But take the challenge and enjoy!
Beautiful hike up to the statue and then we scooted straight down through the rocks and roots back down to the trail to continue our hike
Great little hike to the statue. Really well maintained trails. Not too challenging. Nice elevation gain. Easy for kids.
If you can manage it, the hike/climb to Tedyuscung is definitely worth it! I vaguely remember my first trip to see it, was it a school trip? Was it my parents, who often brought me back the Wissahickon Creek to fish and hike, etc. What I CAN remember about the first time I saw the statue was the overwhelming sense of awe that something like this was not only here in the middle of the woods ( I was kid I didn’t understand landscape change at the time), but the simple fact that a human being actual made this. The statue has a plaque saying who it was donated by but I’m not sure if it was made there or made and moved there. Either way this incredible statue of a Native American in a position of overlooking the land, is a testament to what we are capable of when we put our minds to it.
Could not see it from below.climbed up and saw The backside of the statue.
Great reminder of the past that relates to the present and the future
The path was modified since last visited. Cool
Great hike, tons of fun.
Nice winding hike through wooded path to the top. Very relaxing during the week. Much busier on weekends and holidays.
Great hiking trails along the Wissihickon Creek or stone bicycle trail (Forbidden Drive). An amazing park located within such an urban area.
Great view from the top and the path is easy to find.
Great out of the way Philly Landmark!
Philadelphia amazing everything including interesting statues
Spent my childhood playing, hiking, fishing and just enjoying the scenery of Valley Green. Have hiked to the Chief many times as a kid and have made the same hike a few winters ago in the snow with my kids. They loved it.
Took the long way, hard way up to the statue. So rewarding.
A fantastic destination for a hike. If you are just out and about in the trails and dont know where to head this is a good spot. To get there you will have to go uphill for quite a ways. But it is worth its to over look the cliff the statue stands on.
Nice, not to challenging 2 mile trail. The statue was on a nice overlook. Peaceful and quiet.
What could be better than a walk in the woods where you find this amazing piece of public art
Hes Huge but amazing to hike up to!
Short hike depending on what trail head you park near. Awesome place to take the dog on a hike no matter the season
Valley Green is wonderful. Statue is huge . The trail to Indian Chief is moderatly difficult to traverse.
Awesome landmark in beautiful Fairmount Park
Its amazing and worth the hike. Learn the history of the statue, so cool.
Really the 5 stars is for the talks in this area, but I love having points of historical interest along the way! This stone statue was erected in 1902 to replace a similar wooden statue during the time of Victorian romantizing of the plight of the Native Americans. The street names in the neighborhood were changed to Shawnee, Cherokee, Tohopeka, etc. for the same reason.
Beautiful statue amazing view
Its an awesome site to do some real hiking to. Bring plenty of water if you go check it out!
Its a little hike to get there, but a unique spot in the Wissahickon Valley Park.
Good bike trails
Pretty awesome
The hike is better than the statue
Valley Green is the best place for walking and running on and off the trails in the area.
We had a good time hiking the trails but its hard to find the statue. The trail markers are not super helpful.
The hike is nice
Come here people! A so quiet and relaxing place to enjoy in these hot summer days!
I always fine something new here an I love it.
Super cool find. Were continuing our search for every rare spot in Valley Green.
Love it been there 1000 times. Great Monument to see for pictures especially in fall.
Great mountain biking. It is rocky!
This is a impressive statue of an Indian Chief, high above the Wissahickon. Only accessible by steep paths
Majestic statue, but due take note, this 15 foot high landmark is probably in the wrong place, certainly in the wrong costume. However The journey is picturesque and the trail affords some wonderful views, especially in late autumn.
Great experience in a great place.
Statue is a bit hard to find but the park is great for running, biking, and hiking
Great hike
Its not culturely accurate to the local Delaware tribes that use to inhabit the area before the white colonizers stole the land.
Best part of Philly
Nice and easy hike
Awesome view, but really windy!
Great hike
I climbed all the way up from the path below...it was worth it.
