Rich history. This was Ben Franklins private social club in the 1700s. He and 5 scholars from different education backgrounds would meet here on Friday nights, drink, philosophize and amazing world changing inventions and ideas are traced back to this very building. A must see for visitors and native Philadelphians alike. You wont be disappointed.
Small and nice exhibit to visit while waiting for the tour time to see Independence Hall.
Small, but nice. Colonial mapmaking the theme now, 8/27.
Lots going on there. I enjoyed chamber music, part of a series. Beautiful hall.
The suggested donation is $5, I think. It should be $2. An institution with this history should have a wonderful museum. They have a single room about the size of a large classroom.
A continuing intellectual collaboration that Bartram and Franklin intended for Philadelphia to be the scientific and educational beacon to the world. Consider also a trip to Bartrams Garden and see the natural cider mill cut into the stone on the banks of the river. The Wissahickon schist will reflect sparkles of light from the mica and one can grasp natural philosophy (science) and nature. The Philosophical Hall located near Independence Hall is part of that clear intent, that a functional Republic is based on the free exchange of useful knowledge between informed citizens.
Small exhibit space, but free on certain days and very informative docents
Founded in 1743 by Benjamin Franklin, among others; promotes useful knowledge in the sciences and humanities. Very interesting to learn about how the Founding Fathers established an institution that encouraged learning and scientific exploration in our country when it was new. I love what this place stands for.
One of the finest places for me to be ...
Imani Winds was great. The place was ok.
Small, but packed with interesting artifacts. Enjoyed the tour guides talk.
Small donate as able collection of natural and artistic artifacts
First public library in the USA.
A great way to kill some time while waiting for the Independence hall tour.
This is a tiny, free museum in the building Franklin used for his philosophical society meetings that usually has great exhibits. Google maps got the location wrong though; its actually in the building across the street.
