Incredibly impressive!!!! A must for history lovers!!! The educators are so splendid, knowledgeable, engaging, and friendly. The displays are wonderful, especially the interactive ones. We spent 5 hours there and loved every single minute of it!!!! There is so much I learned about the extraordinary start of this country, the good and bad. A special shout out to Katie in the Cross Keys Café, one of the nicest people I ever met! Cant wait to go back!!!
This is an excellent museum. If you are interested in learning about the American Revolution, then this is a must see attraction in Philadelphia. There were many beautiful exhibits and displays and short films to keep you interested for a few hours. If you enjoy going at your own pace, which I recommend, then do not do the guided tour. Make sure you visit all the displays and shows and you will not be disappointed. After you are done with the museum there are many other historical attractions and restaurants nearby within walking distance.
A well-produced overview of the American Revolution, from its roots to its contradictions. The museum isnt squeamish about how America hasnt always lived up to the ideals it put to paper, including from the get-go. It also doesnt present the British as doofuses destined to lose. If youre looking from a completely in-depth look into every nook of the war, this isnt it, but it is surprisingly detailed and complete. Recommend.
The Museum of the American Revolution is one of the best museums and cultural institutions in Philadelphia. I am thrilled to write this review for both the museum and its wonderful staff.Prior to COVID, I had set up a group event at the Museum of the American Revolution, which unfortunately had to be cancelled as events and museums were closed to reduce the risk of spread. The Museum helped me immediately process a refund and stayed in touch over the past six months to provide us with updates on alternative events that we could run virtually. Jessica - from the Group Sales team - was incredibly accommodating and helpful as we planned our event.Last night, we had a chance to experience the museum virtually through a remote lecture and online tour led by Tyler and Rebecca. About 20 attendees signed on to Zoom for the event and everyone has already commented on how great an event and evening it was.Whether for a remote group event, an in-person trip [theyre open in a limited capacity now], or an on-site group event, I highly recommend working with the Museum of the American Revolution. Thanks all!
A really super place. Well laid out to go from beginning to end with many specific exhibits. Plus, many unknown facts and tidbits. Definitely worth the trip.
I love this place - the exhibition is made with talent and is very modern. You can spend hours and won’t recognize it.Personnel is very kind.Unfortunately they are closed due to the pandemic.
A very informative and interactive chronological journey through the years before, during and after the American Revolution. A great mix of exhibits with historical information, artifacts, interactive exhibits and films gives a good timeline of the revolution. The journey begins with introductory film and end with the film and glass case viewing of the Washingtons tent. Worth a trip to Philadelphia to see the newer museum !! The exhibits and great stories throughout the museum is enhanced with the staff retelling a more detailed information of some of the artifacts at various times during the day. They are friendly and open to answer any questions you may have. The exhibits are a combination of artifacts interspersed with excellent audio visual presentations harnessing the latest technology. The basement is dedicated to mostly hands on activities for the kids of all ages. The scavenger hunt throughout the museum was a fun game to play with the prize as old map of Philadelphia during those times. Definitely worth my trip to the historical city.
Great for school trips! The guides were very very informative, the information fun and educational. There was a room where the students got to look for codes, kind of like an escape room, where they acted like revolutionaries sending codes to meet. There was wax figures and we even saw Washingtons tent!

Wow, great museum! The place was clean, up to date with technology, and you got to see George Washington’s tent. Definitely a must see.
Much bigger than I thought it would be. Very well detailed, informative and thought out. Truly puts Americas beginnings in perspective and will enrich your soul. They also have an exhibit showcasing George Washingtons tent that he used throughout the war (often cited as the 1st Oval Office. Very interesting and very well done in its presentation. Highly recommend.
This is my second favorite museum o have gone to, outside of the Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody Wyoming. I really like how all the facts are in order and it helps guide you through the events in how they happened and how they connect. I also like the touch screens and how it tells you about different items and can even zoom in on it.
Great venue, highly recommend, helpful and informative staff especially Michael Idriss. He was extremely knowledgeable and very personable member of your team.
Absolutely fabulous! Educators spent time explaining, answering questions, and clearing up any confusion. Well Worth the admission price.
Great look into the events, people, and geopolitics surrounding the creation of the United States. Amazing seeing some of the objects they have!
What a fantastic experience! As a social studies teacher, this would be a dream to bring students. They do a great job explaining the phases of the war, in a way I have never seen before. Very hands on, which made it even better for our 9 and 3 year olds. Admission gets you two days of entry. STRONGLY RECOMMEND
Great museum. I wouldnt recommend it if you have kids under 10 though. But awesome displays.
I say this not having been to any of the Smithsonian museums in years, but this is easily my favorite museum. Weve only gone the one time, part of the sneak peak before it officially opened, but oh my, its incredible. The only reason we havent returned is because our kids are too young. Just an utterly sublime experience here. Admittedly, I teach history, but my wife was just as captivated by it as I was. Its a museum you definitely want to plan multiple trips for, as theres simply so much to see you likely wont see it all in one go. Really, I cannot say enough good things about the place. Some of the exhibits are constant, others are rotated out and in, so youll see something new no matter how many times you visit. The food court is a bit pricey (but what museum cafeteria isnt) but surprisingly good. The historical actors were hilarious too (in a good way).
Very solid, moving experience and highly recommend for those looking to learn more about this important period of U.S. history. Excellent for ages 5-99. A lot of interactive, well presented historical material with multi-media films and real-life recreations to immerse visitors in the time, place and people of the revolution.
I dont remember much from school about the American Revolution, and I feel this museum really hit things on point. I would recommend, if you have children, to go with older children who can tolerate reading and walking at a slower pace. There was a lot of reading and not much for young children to interact with. Additional museums are within walking distance which allow you to make a day of being in the city.
What an excellent experience!Witness the story of the American Revolution told in a very intuitive way, looking at the why, what, and how. It is a very meticulously curated museum, with many interactive exhibits and easy to follow videos and materials.Make sure you visit the ship on the second level, and you attend the exhibit with Washington’s tent!
This museum is one of the best I have been to in years. It was strongly recommended by some of my friends who are local historians and professors to me and it did not disappoint! The combination of various informative and teaching techniques such as interactive exhibits and written materials and videos made it fun and interesting to people of all ages and degrees of knowledge about the American Revolution.
Let me be clear. It’s a great stop. It has a ton of amazing things to see and experience. I did enjoy the National Constitution center more, but you can combine both at a discount and purchase a dual ticket for each. Do it.
I love capturing Museum of the American Revolution weddings! It is In the heart of Old City right next to the First Bank of the United states & The Merchant Exchange building. The venue is amazing with the incredible terrace that overlooks the city! Also Brulee is the caterer so you absolutely will have the tastiest food in Philly! I love working here and cant wait to get back. Call Tori there she is the best!
Fun and interactive experience with friendly and knowledgeable people. Definitely worth the trip.
Very informative. It was a good trip. Went with my little sister, boyfriend, and friends. Everyone had a good time. Museum took about 3-4 hours to complete. They have a cafe there for food, but we opted to go walk somewhere nearby and come back. Student discounts with ID!
Great museum. We went while there were a lot of school groups so it was a bit crowded and we tried to rush through it. Definitely would have been better if we went at a different time.
Very good. I enjoyed in the museum of the American Revolution.
Beautiful Museum that encompasses the American Revolution, a flag room containing original designs of the many 13 star flags, enlightening movies that fully explained how the French and Spanish helped the colonists win the war. I was there for 3 hours and didnt stop to read every depiction under peoples faces or under the flags. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was very clean, the employees were very polite and helpful, and the information was very enlightening. George Washingtons tent that he actually stayed in when he accompanied his troops on the battlefields was revealed. An American treasure of the American Revolution.Check with your library to see if they offer free passes to this Museum. Mercer County Library in New Jersey does. A great savings!

Ill preface this by saying we arent museum people. We had heard good things about this one so we decided to check it out while we were traveling to Philly for work.We came on the first full weekend of the month and took advantage of Bank of Americas Museums on Us program. Anyone with a Bank of America card can get in for free which is awesome. We really didnt spend much time here. The only museums I like tend to be a lot more interactive than this one was.The museum was pretty small. It had two levels with one exhibit on the first floor and a larger one on the second floor. Theres also a movie theater upstairs.I think this is a museum that history buffs would love. It just wasnt for me.
I took the family to the Museum of the American Revolution for the first time in June. We went specifically to view the collection of 13-starred American flags. The exhibit itself was great, but I enjoyed the remainder of the Museum even more! The final portion of the exhibit is really touching and well put together. Don’t forget to stop by the gift shop at the end! They have some great collectibles and books to purchase.
I can’t stress how great it is to have this museum in the birthplace of our nation! So much info and great exhibits. The architecture is not bad either! The curators have so much knowledge and are enthusiastic in explaining our nations history. Also, the visit is worth just checking out Washington’s tent alone!
Amazing! The exhibits are big, bold, bright, easy to read and interact with. Perfect balance of things for young and older people. Crisp, clean museum with incredible displays and movies about the American Revolution. Spent well over 5 hours there with the family, reading and watching and enjoying the whole museum and experience. Well worth the visit!
Best museum! Great area of Philly.
Brought my 17 yo history loving son to this museum. He left saying he had never felt so patriotic. The video presentations are wonderful. Washington’s Tent and Brandywine Battle. Many important historical artifacts. I recommend this new museum. Couldn’t disagree more with Nancy review below.
Great tour guide! Made everything interesting for the kids! Really nice place and the kids didnt even realize they were learning!
The museum you could easily get lost in the history of it. The amount of work shows.. they have wax figures and relics from history such as swords and uniforms and house hold things that everyone can admire
A very interesting museum. If you love history or if you are american this place is a must. the store at the first floor has many options for souvenirs. they also have a section for kids. takes two hours to go though the entire museum and read everything. I came to this museum as part of a trip I did visiting the major spots of the american Independence. i start in Boston and I finish it with this museum.
Meet the American history in the interactive museum with interesting stories in every corner. Well organized shows. Tickets are not expensive. Recommend!
Thought provoking learning experience for young and old alike. The movies and interactive exhibits are wonderful. The George Washington tent is a tremendous presentation and artifact. There is a great gift shop as well. This is a beautiful addition to the Independence Park experience!
The museum itself has some OK pictures, but the experience and lessons of this educational establishment are entirely dependent upon the acting skills of the person presenting it. The actor named Patrick did a remarkable job imitating the historic figure: St. George, who was a wealthy Irish mercenary fighting on the side of the British.Patrick was not only very knowledgeable about historic events, but he was dressed in period appropriate clothing, imitated the accent, and energetically put on a one man show depicting the final days of his character.I highly recommend his work.
The Museum of the American Revolution is a Philadelphia museum dedicated to telling the story of the American Revolution. The museum was opened to the public on April 19, 2017, the anniversary of the first battle of the war, Lexington and Concord, on April 19, 1775. I didnt have a chance to tour, but would have loved to. I was completely hungover and hot as hell. The gift shop is very nice.
The museum guides you through the revolution and the forming of a young nation, and at the same time, the museum expertly asks you all the right questions, putting everything into perspective.Thank you.
This was one of the greatest Revolution museums that I have gone to. Its relatively new, so it building is in very good condition. It has many galleries where you can see war relics, as well as short movies/shows that you can watch. In addition, there are many interactive stations that you can play around with. Our tour guide was very nice and well informed about the war. Would definitely recommend you visit here if you like the American Revolution.
The exhibition is just above average. The most valuable stuff to see is the tent which was allegedly used by George Washington as the headquarters.I also got 2 bills of ¹/3 of a dollar (replica),
Great museum - very engaging, well organized and exceptional displays. Great bookstore and gift shop!
So amazing! There is so much information here and it is beautifully displayed. Highly recommend the audio tour when you go.
Loved it. $19 admission. They provide a coat room and a locker ($3). I especially liked the Washingtons tent and mock boat with cannons displays.
Better than expected. Lots to see.
The enactments were exceptional. This is a museum that we didnt even plan to visit, but we sure were happy that we did. Entertaining staff sharing snippets of history in a very family friendly and educational environment. Loved it.
Can still tell it is new. Great layout and signs everywhere telling you to touch everything. Make sure you see the movie about Washington’s tent. You will also get to see the tent. Extremely well done in all phases. Spent 1 1/2 but could have easily spent 3. Enjoy!
Its a great place to visit with friends and family!
You will be amazed about the things on display they have in this museum ....you will literally transported to the past ....dont miss out the exhibition of Goerge Washington military tent!!!!!! oh and very nice and helpful staff too
Second favorite stop of the East coast. The presentation on Washingtons Tent was Amazing. One of the coolest things we saw in Philly. Couldnt take any pix inside but well worth the trip.
Very informative! Went on a school trip and our guide was phenomenal! I cant remember her name, but she really made it memorable!
Really impressed by how well done this new Philly museum was, and how friendly and knowledgeable all of the staff were throughout our visit.Id have to say that the highlight of our visit was the great video presentation on the 2nd floor (only about 7 minutes runtime) about George Washingtons tent - it was noticeably way more impactful than anyone in the audience had initially expected, but Ill save the surprise for you to experience for yourself! If youre looking for a few great museums to check out while visiting historic Philadelphia, I highly recommend you add this one to your short list!
A contemporary museum that highlights the trials and tribulations of the American Revolution. The location in Philadelphia is perfect given the extensive role of the city during the revolution. The employees at this museum were all awesome hosts. Every employee was helpful and knowledgeable about the exhibits and history of the revolution.During my impromptu weekend visit, Philadelphia was being invaded by the British. Dozens of actors dressed in vintage uniforms walked about in character and re-enacting scenes of the times. It was excellent to see General George Washington’s personal tent on exhibit too.
This was one of best Museums I’ve ever been too. Amazing exhibits. Lots of old guns and uniforms on display. Lots to read and interact with. Had an amazing Native American exhibit. I learned a lot and found everything interesting. The short movies explaining what was going on in the timeline was very helpful and intriguing.
History is an excellent teaching tool. We need more to understand why living here in the USA is the best! Great museum, easy to navigate and different programs during the day . Loved the one man performance and Washington s tent
This is one of the best museums weve ever visited. Its very interactive and really tells a great story of the American Revolution, many aspects of which wed never heard. Highly recommended.
Excellent museum full of the American Revolutionary War
Great companion experience to Philadelphias amazing and nearby revolutionary era historical monuments and national parks. This relatively new museum makes perfect sense in Philly, sitting just blocks from Independence Hall where the declaration that launched the war was signed and proclaimed. Visiting Independence National Historic Monument, MotAR and then the Constitution Center makes for a great three day weekend in Philadelphias old city immersed in history and surrounded by great restaurants and shops. Only problem is if you leave after three days youll still not have been able to see all of the other excellent nearby museums and culture. This weekend we finally made our first trip to the MotAR. We were drawn in by the Hamilton was Here special exhibit, itself capitalizing on the current Hamilton cultural moment. It worked on us and we are embracing The Year of Hamilton it would seem. While we enjoyed the Hamilton exhibit it was very light on artifacts related to him.The standard exhibits are much better. Mixing displays of period relics with immersive experiences and an informative and educational staff made it fun for both our kids and me their history buff dad. It strikes a good balance between a staid classic museum and a more modern style trying to keep the attention of the kids. We also appreciated that the museum goes to pains to tell the story of the plight of enslaved Africans and the no win situation the war created for Native Americans. These are important stories of the American Revolution that are sometimes ignored in flag waving jingoism prevalent in many retelling of its history. There is little doubt that this is a great museum. If there was a third floor we would have stayed an entire day, but otherwise a three hour visit will let you experience everything, including the kid oriented Revolutionary Place in the basement. $21 for adults, $13 for kids over 5.
This museum uses a variety of mediums (text, videos, art, interactive exhibits, etc.) To teach the timeline and events of the Revolutionary War. It considers others point of view including a section on a British Redcoat soldier and how the US Revolution led to other revolutions in other countries, mentions of the daughters of Liberty and the female perspective, and Native Americans conversations. There are artifacts including Washingtons tent. Our family enjoyed our time here.
A long overdue addition to our nations founding that offers a surprisingly refreshing cheek of the American Revolution through the experiences of ALL involved; American colonists and Militiamen, British soldiers, the Oneida Indians (our first real allies, BTW), African-Americans (those fighting with the British as well as those who fought alongside other American colonists) Canadians... A stunning presentation that will keep you coming back again and again. PLEASE make this a destination!
Fascinating look at the American revolution! Its a truly interesting and important chapter in Americas history. This museum does a great job of breaking it down into phases. We all left happy. Ill have to come back the soak it all in!
One of the best museums we been too, great for families. The staff here are very helpful and easy to approach. Thank you for playing along with us during our home school lesson with our son.
The museum was full of the most amazing artifacts from this historical war. Id say the most amazing artifact has to be George Washingtons tent which is in fact real. I loved how interactive it was and the films about the war strewn about the place. It was a great experience. I most definitely will make another visit.
There were great exhibits at the Museum of the Revolution. We wanted to see Washingtons tent but it was only shown hourly and we did not want to wait 40 minutes for the next show since we wanted to see as many attractions as possible today. It would have been nice to know in advance about the show times so we could have better planned our time at the Museum. Overall though it was an enjoyable museum to visit. I learned new things.
Much more engaging than expected. It is a really well done museum. Excellent multimedia enhanced the experience. And there were lots of activities to engage kids and adults. Make sure to ask lots of questions if you encounter an actor in the boat. Shell trot out lots more demos and stories. And if you are visiting with children theres more to do in the basement.
If you didn’t pay attention in school or your visiting our county, this museum is a must visit, you will see how America got her freedom from England and more.
As UK visitors to Philadelphia we had this museum recommended to us by a local sat on a table next to us in Reading Terminal as the one place not to miss. So we went and boy were we not disappointed. This museum is the best one we have ever been to. We spent 4 and a half hours learning all about the history that we should know about in the UK as it is part of our history too. Would definitely recommend this museum for a visit. Our group ages ranged from 11 to 44 and we all enjoyed it.
I was blown away by the quality of the exhibits and staff of this museum. I had no intention of purchasing a membership seeing as we live almost two hours away, but after our visit I knew we would be coming back many more times. Patrick, the re-enactor playing Richard St. George was an unexpected true talent. His performance sealed the deal. I’d pay to see him on a stage any day. The docents and staff throughout were very engaging and knowledgeable and the care put into the exhibits was top notch. I can’t wait to visit again!
Great exhibits, especially loved the Washingtons tent one... I am loving the Washingtons star design, and my family enjoyed the entire visit. We opted for food at a local stop instead of the cafe. Clean facility, knowledgeable, courteous staff, who cared about the job they did and were careful to point out to parents of kids climbing on exhibits and trying to escape through staff only doors what was happening. Loved that we could stow our bulky coats in lockers too. Gift shop was average to higher than average in pricing.
Today we had a trip to the Museum of the American Revolution with my daughters class. That was very informative and interesting. The kids were fond of the documentary films shown with special effects. Everything was clean and the guides were very kind and eager to come and tell the kids about history. Overall we were very pleased there. But we had an unpleasant incident there - when asked to leave the bags and coats in special bins before going to the gallery we couldnt find them on the way back to leave the Museum. It was very frustrating as 60 kids were waiting outside for 20 minutes while the staff could find the bags and coats.
Good place to feel “Liberty “You have to join the show for 14 minutes
Astounding interactive awesome! Easily navigable space and can be as short as an hour and as long as 3. It has a lot to go through and does a really great job conveying the history of the American Revolution in a grassroots format.
Best part was seeing the tent.
Lots of great information and the guides are extremely knowledgeable! Friendly staff all around, seems like everyone really loves working there. They also had a lot of interesting programs even though its kinda the off-season.I felt like the transitions between events/exhibits was a little confusing in some parts, but overall I like that its organized generally by the order of events through the revolution and beyond. The Hamilton exhibit was also really interesting, but it seemed odd that there wasnt much about the events leading up to his death.. seems like that would be worth mentioning, but there was a ton of great info about his life and his contributions.Easy one day museum visit, maybe a little high on the price, but overall I enjoyed our visit!
So much to see here too...any awesome, almost unbelievable show that was called the tent which was George Washingtons tent and at the end a curtain lifted and the actual tent is there set up on display..it can only be exposed to light for very short periods of time to keep it from disintegrating. There was also an excellent one man performance of Sir Richard St George.
Well thought out floorplan with very immersive exhibits. Refreshing to see other views of the Revolution, not only your typical high- or mid-level military focus (though they are there). Plan on coming early to see popular items uncrowded, and spend the entire day here if you can.
If you are interested in the American War of Independence then this is a must see. Excellent set of displays, models, information etc.
My 13 year absolutely loves MAR so much we are there practically every month she is so into the history and can not get enough of it. I joke and call it her second home and trust me if it could be it would. I always find something interesting everytime we are there!
It was very interesting! I was chaperoning a school trip and ended up asking as many questions as the kids. Because the museums focus is the American Revolution, they go way more in depth on details and as a POC I like that slavery isnt totally glossed over like it was when I was young. Kudos to our museum facilitator Andrew for making it so much fun! Definitely will go back!
This is an excellent, modern museum that covers many facets of the American Revolution. Starting with a broad overview of America at the time it covers the big picture but also tells so many amazing individual stories. The exhibits are filled with hands on examples, audio, video and activities, and the staff are there to bring exhibits to life with their knowledge. I was very impressed and recommend this for any visitor to Philadelphia. we spent 3 hrs here and kids never asked to leave once which I take as a success!!
Too much to absorb in a day. The ticket is good for 2 days.the displays arer well-done.and the information provided about the events that led to the revolution I found very educational. the revolution was much more than a bunch of military events.
Very informative and cool museum. The have G. Washingtons war tent here on display too, impressive to observe. They include Native contributions in the war as well as the perspectives of soldiers from both sides. Lots of installations as well. Only four rooms but A LOT to see here. They have discounts for teachers and seniors too. Was very dark for pictures but located close to everything for an easy stroll after!
Great place to visit for a history lesson.
Pretty cool! Went with my classmates as part of my Apush class. The videos shown were really well made. Overall enjoyable.
Without question the one place to visit during your stay in Philadelphia if you could only pick one — I know — sac religious to place above Independence Hall or the Liberty Bell — but trust me — you will not be disappointed.Excellent quality exhibits. World class presentations. Plan on spending twice as much time as you originally plan — plenty of sections in the various galleries to keep you busy reading, reflecting and absorbing it all. State of the art high quality wax figures depicting different lifelike historic scenes and moments from history. The use of high quality multi-media helps move the story along.I left the final gallery wanting to head straight to a bookstore to load up on the scores of stories from this rich period of history — which you can easily do in the upscale classy gift shoppe on the main floor — not over the top touristy — I would go back a second and third time like a good movie to see what I missed!
Love how in the second floor the events displayed are in chronological order
This museum is only about 6 months old.As such it has a lot of kinks to work out.Mainly:1) The timed tickets dont seem to mean a thing. We got timed tickets while every tiny exhibit room was wall to wall with school groups preventing us from seeing anything.Whats the point?2) Lots of wasted space. The first floor is vast and cavernous with the entrance hall, a great museum store, cafeteria and theater. The exhibits which are hard to see, are crammed into small rooms in a one-way horseshoe configuration. We think this long-awaited museum holds lots of promise and wed like to come again when we can actually see and enjoy the exhibits.Maybe a day for adults only.
Dont believe the maps about closing time. Summer hours go through 6PM. Excellent presentation of the history of the American Revolution. Give yourself plenty of time. While you might be able to rush through in s couple of hours, dont! We had tickets for 13:30 & took our time got through 1 of the galleries in about 3 hours. We will be back!
People working there were very nice and helpful. Very knowledgable. Fun for the the kids and moving for the grownups.
Great museum! Has both interactive aspects as well as Washingtons actual war tent! Spent about 2.5 hours there but easily could have been longer. Be aware, like any museum, lots of reading. Totally worth it!
Fun and fanciful museum focused on the history and small details of the American Revolution. Something for everyone and the interactive elements were very well done.
Very interesting place with great sculptures, weapons from the revolution, interactive displays and informative videos. All in all a good time and the tickets actually gets you a pass for two consecutive days so you can always show up later in the day and come again the next day if you couldnt see everything
