In Essence they were on the list of ‘must see places’ in Philadelphia, so an impromptu trip was set in motion. After a late night e-mail was answered, knew the decision made was a good one. When I walked on the grounds, it felt like a sacred, safe and creative space. When I walked through the doors, it didn’t feel unfamiliar or strange.Every room held its own story and place in time, yet they connected at the same time. Since we were listening for ‘her’ voice, the intertwining made sense. The warmth, passion, creativity and care is present in this space. Each artist captured the themes beautifully and how they tied them together, again, was remarkable.Am looking forward to them opening again in March. This time, will bring others with me to experience history, herstory and their story.
Wowzer! Guided tour is stupendous. Highly recommended for all people. Especially if you are looking to increase your cultural sensitivity.
Today we went on a guided tour of the colored girl museum. I was so impressed and felt the spirit moving thru me. The paintings, dolls so much to see, will go again.
My experience at the museum was something that all people should visit. It is an excellent place to learn about your heritage. People of all nationality should take their children to a beautiful place to see and listen to the ladies in this awesome museum tell you the history of people of Color.
A rare neighborhood find dedicated to our black american culture/history. You wont be disappointed!
This place is closed until March 2021
One of the best historic experiences covering the experiences and social point of views stemming from the enslaved Africans as they became over the generations, Americans.
I enjoyed the art and the artist/curators who spoke. I was just put off by the owner, she was not friendly and because of that I would be reluctant to returns.
Awesome exhibit of the Colored Girl Experience and kudos to the staff that provided a guided tour.
