This, unquestionably, unique place. Is by far, my favorite venue out of all places in Philly venues. The stage is small and in your face, just how I love my punk shows. Front row here is exactly where I needed to be. The sound is amazing. The beers are bountiful and perfect price on my pocket. Upstairs also has an amazing view.
I got lost standing at the door! The building isnt well marked to say it is PhilaMOCA, unless the MO stands for mortuary, which is what is on the building.Inside was somewhat of two-storied open floor plan with an upper floor rail-seating area, from what I could see. Sort of a single row mezz.I was there to see the movie A Field Guide To Evil and it was... interesting.I thought it would be more Horror/Gore, but in the end, we laughed very much! If you get the chance, see it! Melon head children were funny, but a little bird told me the last lore from Hungary was over the top funny, in a morbid sort of way! Some of the people there (I dont know if they were employees or volunteers) were less than pleasant, but the host of the event was jovial and good-natured.There is a staging area, so if you are looking for a small area to perform, this place will do fine.It probably holds about 50-70 people (maybe more, but I dont know fire code regs for that building), plus your band or any gear you need to set up.If you want to host a small movie showing, like the one I went to, it is a comfortable space to do so, and I would recommend it.
Great venue, good sound, good prices a 16oz can of beer was $3, The employees were all cool and easygoing, only down side is it gets pretty hot in there I was in the balcony last night for The Messthetics and after the place filled up it got really hot. Also they had a college style mini fridge for the beers and that just couldn’t keep up, so the beer was only mildly cold.So except for those two things this is a great venue, will definitely be back, just might not come back in say July or August.
Great venue. Small and intimate. I like sitting in the balcony while my kid stands right in front of the stage. I only wish there were a few more chairs for moms like me.
Great little venue in a converted mausoleum. Parking is standard for Philly; across the street but free in the evening during events. Not an area you want to be alone in at night, but fun with company. Theater seats an intimate 30 or so people, with a small balcony above to hold about 10 people. This is a great venue for screenings and meet and greets. I went for Troll 2 and met George Hardy. The small crowd at the sold out event made for a small line and it was pretty great since everyone wanted a picture and autograph with George. Owners are very relaxed about eating and drinking in the theater and even have snacks and drinks available for a small donation. Ill be back, Im sure.
Went to a live show here. Sold out crowd and still felt awesome. Great sound and environment. Id kind of ding it for not having great parking but whatever. Thats not the venues fault. 5 of 5!
Best small venue in the city. Right near Union transfer. Enough action and fun to occupy yourself before show. Great small intimate space
I have been to 3 events at this venue and they all have been some of the best experiences of my life. Such a wonderful venue that supports the unique, the obscure, and altogether the passionate artists that drive creativity in the city of Philadelphia. Looking forward to more events here in the future.
Interesting hidden art space. Obscure entertainment for the bohemian in you.
Worth the trip! This venue has diversity in their events. including live presentations. They have something for everyone & the venue is small & intimate, which reminds me of the atmosphere of The Electric Factory. You can find them on Facebook with listings of upcoming events. Check it out!
Philamoca is such a cool small venue. Always a fun time!
Decently large venue that lets you bring your own beer.
This is a quirky space. A lot goes on here, film screenings, art exhibits, concerts, etc. Very cool, chill space. For some events they are a combination of BYO and they sell some basic beers. Sound is surprisingly good for such a small venue.
Ive only been to philamoca for psychotronic but I had a great time the place is nice
Very fun place! Saw a movie screening here. Staff was super friendly.
Alternative music and film venue featuring obscure Cinema choices seen nowhere else in the city of Philadelphia. Highly recommended one of my favorite places in the city to see a movie
The Pigeon poetry night was great!. The hosts were fun, engaging and the feature poet Rasheed Copeland for this night was spectacular.
Cozy gallery space which also has live performances, musical or otherwise and film screenings. Unisex bathrooms, on-street parking, BYOB or purchase beer and water at a wallet friendly price. Balcony space offers greater viewing area. One negative: NO A/C, it does get warm in there or worse the hotter it is outside.
Ok good place to meet friends being social
Chic space and very fun. Acoustics were a bit difficult, especially hearing the vocals.
One of my favorite venues in the city... Seen a bunch of shows here that had awesome visuals on the projector. Great for people watching... usually attracts interesting folks!
Its a pretty neat art gallery/venue (on occasion i think) that runs on donations. Everyone was pretty nice.
Up close and personal with the bands in a former mausoleum company. Every views a great one, and friendly staff.
Futuristic and mind blowing modern establishment, go see a Troma film there.
PhilaMOCA is an amazing venue. The events always feel like a labor of love, staged with care and with respect for audiences. Crowds for the shows are universally jovial and friendly, and the staff is equally outgoing. Long live PhilaMOCA.
Cult and weird cinema, musical performances, and interesting art exhibits- they pack a lot into the modest space! Check out their calendar of events, there is always something neat happening.
Great DIY venue booking awesome and very diverse bands. They also have movie showings and art shows. Love spending time there!
Attended the Chloe Moriondo concert: it was cramped and uncomfortably warm; we noticed refreshments but the signage was not that great; the screen behind the stage was definitely not needed. Wound up just leaving early.
Hard to find the door looks like nothing but its an awesome gallery and event space with cool events. The grunge of it is very philly.
Intimate venue for films and events. Fun atmosphere and helpful staff. Parking on-street nearby, so be prepared or take public transit options.
Intimate venue space with great sound
Decent bare-bones spot for small shows. Good music, good movies, etc Limited concessions makes for fewer drunks in a generally tight environment.
Love this venue, always a great way to see movies, music and whatever they have going. Check it out !!
Free movies and good people
Many good experiences here. Definitely more of a dive scene.
Fun place if you fit in with diy punk ethos
Cool spot. Love the Philly Pigeon slam thats held here. Artsy feel. On street parking not as bad as I presumed.
Great little venue. Really enjoyed myself.
Great weird venue
Clean & energizing. But ONE BATHROOM!?
Awesome space, my old lady friend and I could even sit down on a couch in the most punk way possible.
Very cool spot. Great place to see a live show.
Nice quaint venue where you are up close and personal with the musicians. Plus its BYOB! Cant go wrong here..
The place is amazing.
Top notch. Great venue
Fantastic cultural hub. Live music, film screenings.
Feeding the homeless and those in need of a meal Monday Wednesday and Friday 6pm. Im sure they have other services like a record expungement.***(This is Chosen 300 on Ridge Ave. & Spring Garden St. I tried to edit the review but it wont let me change the location.)***
Always great music and films. A hidden gem.
This place is super chillllll !!!! I really like the DYI vibe that this place exudes. They have some art on the walls and some couches along the small balcony that you can slide into if your there early enough. The stage is small and the place is pretty small as well, so wherever you are youll have a great view. The sound system is fantastic too. They also have a small beer selection at budget prices, and the crowd is for the most part well behaved. Id definitely come here again and plan too soon as i have tix for Death of Lovers which i cant wait to see.The show i did catch was Balmorhea, and i strongly recommend seeing them if your reading this !!!!
Great intimate venue that has a wide array of acts. One of the best hidden gems in philly.
Where all the cool weirdo art/pop culture kids meet!
Good show but it got HOT. It was pretty packed for the show so YMMV
A nice small and easily accessible location via public transport. Loved the showings hosted there.
Great small venue!
Very cool place and staff.
Love this venue. Small and intimate. Really cool place.
Low-key, friendly venue with cool people and good shows.
Movies, concerts, art shows, PhilaMOCA is so cool. You need to check it out.
I was there YEARS ago. It was a nice little place
Nice small intimate venue
Slightly out of the way venue with regular live shows
Awesome small concert venue. Friendly owners, too.
Cool space, small but unique
Really well curated, good facilities
Wheelchairs would have a difficult time at this place. I use a walker and could barely get it in the restroom and there are No hand railings. Two steps in the front of the place, as long as you can get over them you can get into this venue, steps are about curb size! Very small place, not at all easy to get around inside of this venue.
Great place!
Cool little venue
Nice atmosphere.
Not a good place for people using Assistive Devices.
Pretty great
Great
Awesome venue!
