Nice place to hike! Wide open trails in a woodsy environment. Peaceful, quiet, dont hear traffic! Theres a one mile paved loop and a 7 mile hike in the woods in clear, mostly open paths. If it has rained, prepare for some muddy marshy areas you will have to find a way around in the tall grasses and brush. Careful of snakes as there is a lot of tall grasses and pine straw they like to bask in on a sunny day. I saw a small corn snake which was basking in the middle of the path. I didnt see him until he slithered away. He was harmless, but there may be some that are not. Just be aware and wear long pants preferably Jeans and closed toe shoes. If you keep hiking straight youll come to the end where it meets the gulf shores. Very beautiful, and miles of beach!
Not a difficult trail to hike except for after a rainstorm. A few side trails lead to a shoreline where there are shallow waters. Ive only been on the longer unpaved trail, so I havent seen the pitcher plant reserve thats there, but I surely intend to next time. Mosquito repellent is also a MUST.
I visited this park a few years ago as I heard it was one of the few places with pitcher plants in the area. And as a photographer, I wanted pictures. You couldnt really get close unless you were to hop the rail, but they discourage that as it messes with what nature provides. So bring a zoom lens if you want photos. Dont ruin nature for a picture. They are toward the end of the trail BTW, if anyone is interested. The trail was an easy walk, maybe a mile or two, I forget. It had a wooden boardwalk mostly if I remember correctly, some parts paved. It would be suitable for strollers or wheelchairs Im sure. It had a nice lake at the end with a dock to sit and enjoy some scenery. I do have photos but I put them in the other tag for this park. Maybe Ill fix it later.
Pay to park please. Those free dog waste bags dont grow on trees. Please, if you get the collective income invest in restrooms in lieu of the single unisex porta potty which Ill do the courtesy of not describing. The park is great, parking is ample for the average daily visitors. Fantastic hike with the highlights being the flora.
Beautiful, very well maintained park. Go there often.
Nice trail, pretty easy to bike
Great walking trails end State Park simply beautiful really nice walkways out to the lake
Very nice place clean and peaceful
Nice little park that has two trails. The first is a mile walk and is either concrete or decking the entire trail to the water. Second is a 7 mile, we did not walk this trail but looked mostly dirt trail that appears to be well marked.
Peaceful and relaxing.
Amazing nature with a calm and magical atmosphere
Love this park, its so calm, quiet and peaceful. Please do pay the park fees as it helps with the upkeep and employees.
Beautiful trail...and very relaxing. Always kept nice
Easy walking trails. Beautiful place.
It was a lovely little walk enjoyed by my family.
Tarklin Bayou is beautiful. Boardwalks are thru the park for walking. Lots of large pitcher plants. Port a potty. Wheelchair accessible. I saw several people doing their running. Lots of people walking their dog.
Plenty of space. Never ran out of space any time I go.
Love love love this place. There is a. 5 mile paved/boardwalk path straight to the Bayou. There is another loop that is about seven miles. Beautiful place lots of wildlife. It can get a bit muddy and stay like that longer than you would think. Bring boots. Watch for snakes.
Nice nature walk and is pet friendly.
Parking structure close at sunset. About 22 cars can fit in the structure. One handicap parking spot and restroom available nearby. $3 for cars and $2 walk-ins. Envelopes are low on pole so you have to bend way down to see them. Make sure you hang the decal by your rear view mirror. Annual park pass holders just write your number in.Also nearby are doggie poop bags. Saw some dog poop so yeah. 2 trails a 7 miler and 1 mile loop. Make sure your walk by the Bayou the little beach area and sand is so peaceful and serene.
Bring insect repellant for a great walk here
Nice hike and picnic
Plenty of parking. Great hike
Beautiful place for a run.
Beautiful place to see the natural Florida. Pitcher plants, long leaf pines, and a boardwalk to the bayou.
$3 per car to park on the honor system
The new, improved parking lot is so so much better than before! Its 3x bigger and the holes have been filled in.
Really a great place to go walk the government shutdown is affecting it
Parking is $3 per vehicle, cash only, via a self-service pay station. There is a shorter paved/boardwalk 1-mile option to Tarkiln Lagoon, or long 7-mile trail option to Perdido Bay. Both trails feature a taste of Floridas natural pine scrub ecosystem.
Beautiful park! On the Tarkiln Bayou Trail you can see carnivorous plants and flowers - I really enjoyed that.
Great park, love the trails.
Nice trail.
Rustic, Very limited parking and parking costs $3.00.
The parking is not why we go. The parking lot is in disrepair is very bumpy and isnt very modern. That being said I dont really care because I love the park itself and Im just glad that is making art all! If you go try to look passed the parking lot.
Parking lot needs a little work after all the rain.
There was no one else there. So great!
Nice quiet place to hike.....not crowded....
Very pretty walk.
They recently upgraded the parking lot to make more room.
Sandy Cheeks would approve
Wish the sign was easier to see
