Mother Nature gets 10 out of 10 for this beautiful lake!!! The human race, not so much. Was very disheartening to see the amount of trash around the lake. Beer cans/bottles, empty bait containers galore, plastic bottles, fishing line, snack wrappers, and on and on. Filled 3 medium-sized trash bags on one trip around the lake and could have filled the same if I hiked around again. How some people can be so disrespectful is freaking beyond me, but I guess there will always be that 5% of people who need their a** beat. The ospreys and some eagles really put on a great show (especially in the morning), the aerial spectacle is amazing as they catch their fish. Fishing for me wasnt as good as the ospreys. Just a few fish over a four day trip.
Beautiful lake on the Rim. There are day use areas the require a fee but this is not required in the area of the store and boat ramp. The road close to the store has some potholes that could bust a rim on a small car. If you do not get a parkinh spot the store then there is an overflow area. If you have to park in the overflow it would be easier to unload by the shore of the lake instead of trying to walk it over from the overflow area. There are restrooms by the store. I brought my own kayaks but you can rent kayaks and boats there. The shore is a little rocky and there is shade if you want to hike to it. We caught some blue gill and trout. I have T-mobile and had no signal on the lake.
Really beautiful lake with tons of nature. It was a bit crowded when we went, but that is certainly expected for the 4th of July. The general store was well stocked and had everything you could need.Overall, this is a beautiful lake and a must visit. Next time we go, we are going to hike around the entire thing.
Great spot not too far from the road. Picnic, camp, fish and hiking all available in the high country. Turnouts with major views. Remember to pack out your trash especially fishing line.
The lake is beautiful, the trails are great, lots of camping close by, the rim trail is amazing. There were so many people fishing, it made it difficult to enjoy with small children. Really cool place whatever you are there for.
When I went to woods canyon lake on September Monday 9th 2019 It was an off day I believe not many people were there. It was quiet and peaceful. Guess I went on a day where there werent many people from the valley boating. It was a bit windy when we were kayaking but it was also very peaceful and I had a great time exploring the lake. If you want to go to Wood canyon lake and have pretty much have the lake to yourself go on a weekday like I did and they wont be too many people. Probably will go back when the Aspen and the oak change color and take more pictures on the lake. This is so so a lake where fisherman go fishing but when I went they were only a couple of people fishing in the lake. I also saw fish jumping out of the water to catch bugs It was a cool experience. Would definitely recommend it to anybody who likes to kayak, canoe, or use any kind of boat in the lake. This lake is also a great spot if you enjoy fishing and being in nature and having a quiet environment away from the city.
The lake was beautiful.... And Philip is cute af...
Woods canyon is good overall but the amount of fishing line and trash is unbelievable. Besides that the lake is beautiful and has alot of fish.
A very beautiful place to go during the week. Great hiking trails and I hear the fishing is good. Very busy on weekends. So be prepared.
Easily accessable, yet still quite serene. Water is clean and makes for a pleasant swim. You will be in the company of others enjoying the beautiful scenery.
What a Great Lake! There is a little store that is open from 7am until 6 pm everyday. In the store you can buy a fishing license, rent boats, kayaks, and canoes. The lake has easy trails all around it and is loaded with a lot of small fish. Perch and bass. Fishing from the shore is so nice and it’s by the water level. Not like what you experience at Bear Canyon Lake.
Favorite place to camp.too bad dirty filthy people that cant throw away their own trash are going to cause this forest to close down to the public soon.
Place is great..rent a boat. The kids working their were very friendly, helpful and nice. Great place to visit!!
Best service, friendly employees, I will alway come back!
Overall its pretty place to fish..weekends get crowded sometimes.
Too many people for me. Especially during summer weekends..wow
Ducks, chipmunks and the cool lake... Very refreshing.
Great scenery and to get away from Arizona heat.Fun hike around the lake
Incredible lake, beautiful scenery, super clear water. 30° cooler than Phoenix when we were there! So relaxing. Didnt catch much, but it was worth it just to be outside with fresh air and a nice breeze.
Friendly kayak rentals..easy access!
Beautiful lake near at Mongolon rim. Great for easy hike around, the trail is shaded through the pine trees around the lake and has blue signs for direction. I saw people kiyaking & fishing in the quiet lake. Not to mention bird watching - I saw a couple of Opspreys over the lake hunting fish! There is a small convenient store near the marina if you need snacks, drinks etc.
Excellent lake for a day trip fishing, kayaking, or just relax to get out of the heat. Boat rentals and day use camp sites plus several different campgrounds
Just peaceful stunning and can see animals of all kinds
Theres so much fun to do with your family.
Its an awesome spot to fish and have a great time with the family. They have everything you need for food and camping.
Good canoeing. Store and picnic grounds.
Outstanding places to vamp with facilities and trails for hiking.
Great camp site and very nice Host. We had great time and would be come back again!
Peaceful, serene, scenic great stocked rainbow trout :)
Loved my hike today. Overcast all day
One of my favorite camping places
Little busy, but a great spot for getting some aqua
A bit too crowded, but great mountain lake!
Good park for camping and fishing and hiking. Most of the hosts from 1000 Trails are friendly except for the man at the dump. Very gruff and rude. Extra fee for dump. They also charge to throw away your garbage. I thought that was odd.
Get there early it very popular
Great area. Paddle board rentals, boat rentals etc.
Woods Canyon Lake is a beautiful Mogollon Rim lake. Deer comfortable around your campsite and fantastic views. Pay for the forestry passes please they help keep these areas beautiful. Please also pack in and pack out. Dont leave your trash behind.
Very nice and relaxing place to hike, camp, picnic etc
Bycicle boat rental from store made this experience a blast! Tired from peddling around but wurth the smile on family!!!
Beautiful lake
Beautiful! Peaceful!
Just a fun way to spend a Saturday
Clean Place. Camp sites are open
Love woods canyon lake
Best lake and camping spot ever in Arizona love it.
Went kayaking and it was beautiful!
Great place to go just to get away from the heat ...good fishing too!
Willow Springs Lake is much better IMO, and its free (!) vs. the $7 you pay here for day use. I did like the picnic areas here: there is a little more personal space here. But no good aceess to the shoreline was disappointing. Theres a bit of shoreline access around the boat launch area, but none in the picnic areas. The pines here are beautiful, but there is limited lake view from most of the picnic tables.
We had so much fun. We definitely are going back again.
Love camping and fishing at this lake
Peaceful and beautiful lake!
Beautiful area!
Great time!
Had a fun time boating
Great place to do non-motorized water activity. The lake reflecting the pine trees are always calming, the wind going thru the trees sounds like rain. $7 for entrance is fair. Free if you have the annual senior pass from national parks. If youre going in the weekend, come early, parking spaces inside is limmitted. Rest rooms are non flushing, considering its in the woods its OK. There are picnic tables with charcoal grill stands - not much though. Have fun!
Beautiful place!
Awesome place
Me and my oldest child decided to escape the heat of Surprise Arizona and come up north to visit this quaint little Lake. It was a Tuesday and we decided that it was the best day to come up because there would be less congestion and visitors. our assumption was correct and there were not many people at the lake.We stopped in to the store and browsed around a bit. It had a fair selection of goods and where is that anybody would need while Im out fishing for the day way up here in the mountains. The weather was a marked improvement upon living in the Valley of the Sun. The only impediment was paying money to park at the picnic area but when youre Escaping The Heat money doesnt matter. We had a nice picnic sitting on a rock next to the water and enjoying the scenery. Our goal was to walk around the perimeter of the lake. After enjoyed our lunch we decided to convince the walk with the dog in tow. We did find out that the three-legged dog can still swim. The hike was more than we expected but not enough to make us regret coming out here. Sadly we did not see any bald eagles while on site but I did see an osprey. This place is a nice getaway to remove yourself from the hustle and bustle of the world because none of the boats and motors and everything was quiet and peaceful. I would recommend anyone wanting to get away to come up here and enjoy the peace and quiet.
Beautiful place. go early to avoid people
Cant say enough
Beautiful canyon lake with small marina and amenities during high season (summer). Easy paved access and parking lots near Marina.
Great fishing, quiet. Can rent boats, or use the ramp to drop your own. Relaxing
Beautiful place to visit.
Beautiful place. Amazing air. Best place to relax and have fun with friends!
I love this lake! Its so beautiful! But it does get crowded on hot days.
Beautiful lake!
Very cozy
So much fun
Great to our outing outside Phoenix Metro picnic area cost $7 a car and they of rentals are $50 for the fishing boats for 4 hours kayaks are $15 4 per hour. Theres also a nice trail that goes around the canyon Lake
Beautiful lake. Love to fish it as soon as they open the gate through April. May. June, July, and August, the lake is just to crowded for my liking. Then I love to fish this lake in Oct and Nov. The crowds are gone and usually the fishing is slamming. I only fly fish.
Great place for a quick trip to picn9nc out of the Valley heat!
Beautiful lake, cool weather! Fun day of kayaking!
We had a nice picnic and walk by the lake.
Very nice place to take you rv or your motorhome or just to go camping and stay the night nice lake good experience very happy
Beautiful, loved it
So incredibly beautiful! This fish would not stop biting! It was a really fun experience
Hiked around the like with my dog. Very relaxing.
Going there first time was amazing, free entry and only payed the nights we stayed. Restrooms could use a little work and showers needed. Overall, it was amazing!
Must visit attraction in Arizona.
Best place ever
Beautiful!
Love the lake, but especially the head honcho husband and wife team that manages the store. Great people. Friendly, genuine and hospitable.Fishing is awesome if you are on a boat. If you want to catch a LOT of fish, rent or bring your boat and troll during the week. You gotta have the correct lure though. Im not telling you what they are but youll figure it out. My only complaint is the rental boat batteries dont last. I was told they were old? Really? Youll need at least 3 batteries to get you through the day if its an all day excursion. Otherwise this place rocks in every way.
A beautiful lake at Mogollon Rim. Must visit when you are there. A lake for family.
By far my favorite place to go fishing and camping!
Extremely beautiful Lake with lots of places to sit and fish or enjoy the day.
Fun place
Beautiful sites. Kayaking was quite a breathtaking experience. Good to go alone or with family. Loved all its surroundings.
Been coming here for 31 yrs. Love it up here.
One of my favorite places to fish..especially when all of Phoenix is not up there!
Peaceful, quiet but needs trash receptacles
Off season now. Store and campground closed. Very nice lake area with good fishing in season . will be back in April when they reopen.
Really crowded on weekends but a beautiful place.
