Just a phenomenal garden of Rodins work. Very peaceful and relaxing spot overall! Also has a great ambiance at night with the gardens light work on the statues
Most things are closed at Stanford University, but you can still visit the Rodin sculpture garden and see the (dry) fountains and other outside art around the campus. Palm Drive and the Oval are impressive. Memorial Chapels golden mosaics still glisten in the sun. There are noon concerts online to hear the amazing pipe organ to make up for not being able to go inside the church. When it reopens, do experience a concert and fantastic artwork inside. You dont have to worry about a lot of students or tourists in your pictures now. .Nearby Stanford shopping center has good ice cream and coffee shops, and other outside dining. You can walk around the campus without many people (and no bicycles to worry about!), and grab a bite to eat nearby. Have an enjoyable day in beautiful California sunshine.
It is easy to spend an hour or two contemplating the amazing sculptures. Available for all to enjoy.
The sculptures are amazing. If you go at nigyt they have the lights set up in such a way to resemble the way it would have looked by candlelight. Its a great place to bring a date. Wink, wink.
Very peaceful and relaxing spot overall! Also has a great ambiance at night with the gardens light work on the statues
This is a lovely part of Stanford University. Some great exhibits. Its situated right beside the (free) Cantor Museum. Theres benches to sit under the palm trees. Theres a coffee shop with a patio overlooking the Rodin Garden. Its also a lovely walk from here to the Stanford quad and chapel. Lots of free parking at the weekend. One of my favourite places.
What can you say about the second largest collection of Rodin in the world, open all night for your nocturnal pleasure? Best.
Wonderful to go around in this area!
Great place to gather with family and friends.
Amazing. The gates of hell are just breath-taking. Definitely stop here while visiting.
Nice place, instagrammable sculpture by Rodin.
Beautiful bronze sculptures, including The Thinker and everyones favorite, The Gates Of Hell. Good stuff, no cost.
A quiet place surrounded by magnificent pieces of art
Romantic place to walk around
Great place to get some thoughtful mind cleaning.
Beautiful and quiet park. Bronze casts of many of Rodins most famous pieces.
Beautiful space. Pretty amazing this exists on campus
Really cool outdoor museum of ancient sculptures. Very close to two other art museums.
Beautiful place to relax by yourself or with a friend 24/7. Have a picnic!
Love me some Augustine Rodin!!! Gates of Hell is TOTALLY with a visit.
Good seating. Nifty statues.
Interesting display of some of Rodin work.
I have visited the Gates of Hell a dozen times in the last 20 years in day, night, fog and rain and I find it outstanding. More so as many of the figures within have larger than life versions in the remaining garden. The Stanford Campus is nice too. (Im a UC Berkeley grad).
Awesome, a really good place to sit and think.
I loved that place. When I visited it was all Christmas and I could not see the sculptures or I did not reach that point I do not know but its so cute
Felt more like a art space or museum then a university .. just shows where the $$$ is being directed to.
I cant see whats so special with this place. Decent to stroll around in on a nice day I suppose.
The statues are so expressive that one of them scared my puppy :-) definitely worth a visit
Very impressive!
Who knew the gates of hell would be so peaceful early in the morning!
Excellent selection of Rodin sculptures.
Nice museum in the university
Amazing sculptures and beautiful scenery. It was definitely a highlight of my Stanford visit.
The doors for Dantes inferno at the Rodin sculpture garden. Worth the stop over if your going to be on campus and walking by.
A hidden gem. You will love the art collection. A must visit for anyone who is inclined to learn about the art and life of Rodin
The Gates of Hell are obviously the centerpiece of this collection. Per various comments, yes, they provide ample opportunity for study and contemplation. I didnt pick up on the intent of the arrangement of the collection as a whole, and the materials surrounding and supporting the other pieces, rather than feeling timeless, feel dated and decrepit. A nice collection somewhat diminished by some aspects of its supporting architecture.
Interesting art pieces for all to see
Calm and beautiful weather with sculptures.Peoples look like enjoying a lot.
My favorite place to relax
Interesting art work in a relaxed campus setting.
Beautiful sculptures
A beautiful garden with sculptures by Rodin. Some of them are abstract while some are too revealing!. Once we understand what was meant by the sculptor, we feel like shouting wow!!!
Stanford University campus is one of the most beautiful campus in US. It has become a popular tourist destinations in Bay Area. Rodin Sculpture Garden is a great location for the art lovers. Wondering there, one will forget about cell phone s and computers.
Amazing to see such stunning, powerful art displayed out in the open like that.
A national treasure, the best free display of Rodins work in the world
Ive been visiting the Rodin Garden since... well for some many years now . Always beautiful and amazing
Stanford is in fact a vast Park area, dotted with educational buildings of different architectural styles. During summer months a tranquil green Haven, with very few people/students
There is nothing like the original miseum in Paris. Still nice garden.
Best pizza west of the East Coast!
Free! Sit under the trees and you can imagine you are in a Parisian garden.
I highly recommend going to visit this museum and when finished walk to the bookstore through the middle of the square one of the most beautiful campuses in the world.
Theres always a place to go to and relax and have fun.
Nice sculptures and well kept lawn
Excellent collection of art pieces
Beautiful and intriguing sculpture in a comfortable setting
Nice Rodin sculptures near the Cantor art museum
The Gates of Hell is a massive domineering piece that evokes feelings of dread and fascination.
Nice edu tour learning about the Gates of Hell. An interesting detour to the regular Stanford campus tour!
Nice place to see rodin sculptures. The gate of hell is spectacular.
A very interesting place must visit
Awesome. Could use more shade, however
One of the innumerable gems that make Stanford arguably one of the the prettiest and coolest university campuses in the world.
How amazing to get to see these sculptures outside of a museum!
One of my bucket list items. Certainly worth visiting if you are in San Fransisco
Fantastic garden sculptures. But best of all see the Stanford Art Museum right next to it. Amazingly free and fantastic.
A hidden treasure on Stanford campus - the Gates of Hell exhibit alone makes it well worth a visit.
LOved the art adds to a great walk around campus
Very beautiful
Amazing places.
Beautiful night
An absolute must-see if youre ever in Palo Alto: free gazing at The thinker and much more!
This is always a great place to contemplate the brilliance of artists.
Gate of hell is something cannot miss in life
Nice pictures
Because it has beauty, history & life!
An Incredible Museum, Especially the Rodin Statues! If you are a fan of sculpture, of Rodin, or just need a great small but incredible museum in the south Bay Area - this is your place. Located on the Stanford campus, the Cantor Art Center does not disappoint. Its not huge - its not the Met, but its an intimate museum with some incredible gems of art. First and foremost, go there for Rodin. They have an unbelievable collection - including one, of only two, Gates of Hell located in North America. So now I know - as a Cal person GO BEARS - that truly the Gates of Hell are nearby - on the Stanford Campus.Seriously, take some time and ponder all the symbolism and incredible art in the Gates of Hell plus the other Rodins scattered in the museum. Beyond Rodin, it has many wonderful works of art, especially in the European collection. Its handicap-friendly, open most days, and - wait for it - FREE. So a cheap, intellectual date on the Stanford Campus - you cannot go wrong.
One of the sculptures is doing a hand and thats funny.
If you love Rodin, the qty of sculptures in the beautiful exterior garden is not to be missed. There is an enormous gates of hell sculpture flanked by Adam & Eve that is breathtaking. The qty of the smaller pieces inside is also amazing. I enjoyed learning the significance of the Burghers of Calais, prominent in the collection.
Always enjoy taking visitors here, including at night!
Went to see the Ruebin exhibit. Great.
Both the sculpture garden and neighboring museum are a place to spend an enjoyable and quiet few hours. The garden is peaceful and enjoyable for reading outside on a sunny day. Plenty of benches and areas of lawn where one can sit.
Beautiful
Like visiting an outdoor museum
A little precious and crowded but nice if you like Rodin
Sculptures are well spaced out and allow visitors to examine the sculptures from all angles. The standout piece here is the huge gates of hell that serve as the centerpiece to the garden. Great place to go when visiting the area.
Great place !
Sculpture garden with *20* sculptures by Auguste Rodin. Set on a beautiful campus, this is a must see if youre in the area and enjoy art.Parking has a nominal fee, but the garden is *FREE*.Everything is very well spaced and you can view all sculptures from every angle. While theres frequent visitors, it was never crowded or difficult.Photos were easily snapped without bothering anyone. If youre here any day but Tuesday, consider visiting the Cantor Art Center as well (also free).
What a wonderful place!
Amazing place of history, a slice of magnificence thats part of the daily Stanford experience
Parking isnt free unless it is the weekend. The sculptures are just OK (Im not an art person). You gotta hope the weather cooperates.
Wonderful free garden
Fabulous bronze reproductions of Rodins work both inside and outside of the Cantor Art Center.
This a great place for small children to run around and burn some energy either before or after visiting the art museum.
Gorgeous!
Beautiful sculptures.
Absolutely Breathtaking!
