We started with clear day and by 4 fog rolled and got windy.. so be prepared.Lovely park in East Bay hills hike with views and well marked trails. Nice hike around round top. A bit rocky. People of all ages enjoying some fresh air and exercise. Not flat but not steep. Good views along the way. Not too many people which is always a plus!Cool geolgical features and rocks. Parking can be hard and it can get pretty windy, so come prepared.Careful of rattlesnakes... we also saw poison Oak so be carefulBeautiful labyrinths..
Highly rate this place. Perfect pandemic excursion. Looking for a place to let your spirit rest and heart rate up, its here. Thoughtful quote during your hike thru desert trail system, begin a church end at a labyrinth. Thank you for this. Donate big folks!
Varied trail. Shady, leafy trails and wide, exposed trails with views. Dogs allowed.
A great hike. Try to go early morning or afternoon. Stunning views from the top
I grew up in the area I have been going out to the Labyrinths since I was a teenager. I have a ritual where I walk out to the main labyrinth barefoot and leave a small offering to mark key moments in my life. I hope to be able to do that into old age.The best time of year to go there is spring, when flowers are in bloom and everything is lush green. The rest of the year it is like a dry, rocky desert. There usually arent too many people around, allowing for a contemplative experience. There is a hill out there that we used to call Hammock hill because at the top there is an old grove of Bay trees and there used to be a big hammock strung up there between two of them. One of these days I will put a new hammock there.I have seen rattlesnakes in Sibley so please do watch out for them, especially if you have a curious dog.
Pretty, well kept trails and plenty of room to explore without encountering too many other folks.
Mid-summer shade-seekers can find respite here for a moderate hike on the Skyline/Bay Area Ridge Trail. But beware the Overlook Trail on a warm, sunny day! Make sure you have a billed cap or sun hat, and plenty of sunscreen, as the trail is mostly exposed(some classic Golden State views, though).
Beautiful park with interesting trails, gorgeous views, and a neat labyrinth. Gets cold + windy very quickly in the evening. Nice bathroom at staging area with some informational signs.
Went for a short walk on a weekday evening. Parking is limited where I began and not many signs leading to it so can be difficult to find. Hiking was moderate. Not flat but not steep. Good views along the way. Not too many people which is always a plus!
Great hike! Be careful on the steep parts tho.
Fantastic hiking paths in a volcanic reserve with history of the land and intriguing vortex mazes to stumble across along the way! Excellent weekend life contemplating location
Awesome area to come for a hike. The drive up is a little scary- tight turns through residential areas, but the park and trails are beautiful. Took our dog here while visiting family and she had a blast. There are clearly marked on and off leash areas. Wide open with lots of visibility of surrounding mountains. Feels like youre far away from the city.
Good place for a moderate hike. Be aware that there is hardly any shade.
Great place for a hike or dog walk. Wish we’d had more time to explore. Watch out for the poison oak!
It’s a really cool park, just the right size, various places to start, and a good amount of parking. It’s big enough that I didn’t hike everything in a visit, but I hiked most of one end, weaving along between the different parallel trails. It’s cool that they have cows graze down the vegetation. There are lots of dogs off leash but they were all well behaved. The views of the city are spectacular. The bathrooms are clean and have soap and toilet paper. Some of the trails are pretty shady, so they were still muddy days after some rain ended. I didn’t see any services other than bathrooms, so bring any food or water you may need. There are some nice descriptive signs, not a ton but enough to teach one a bit about the landscape and fauna, which is a nice touch.
Love this place and all the geology that goes with it!
Beautiful scenery and vistas to the east. Nice walking and biking trails. Ample parking.
One of my favorite places to visit year-round because of the diverse geography, views, tons of little trails, and the nature. Great place to take your dog off leash, but I almost always see a snake on the trail, so be careful of that.
Love the trail but so many dogs were not on leash not under owners control.
Just incredible. Trails, views, parking, dogs welcome, and plenty of natural beauty.
Fun little trail
Very nice. A variety of paths and terrain which makes some beautiful views. Cool geolgical features and rocks. Parking can be hard and it can get pretty windy, so come prepared.Careful of rattlesnakes in hotter weather.
So great at any time, but especially early morning in the fog, and at sunset.
This place is magical. Whether you are looking for an easy afternoon stroll, a more vigorous hike or run or a beautiful picnic spot, Sibley can provide. Breathtaking views of the Bay, rolling hills surrounding deep valleys carved by volcanic activity. Natural and man-made surprises at every clearing and crest: mysterious labyrinths, bush bunnies, owls, red-tailed hawks, rock Cairns, boulder outcroppings, groves of twisted trees and volcanic stones, gentle slopes of windswept grasses, and a multitude of shrub dwelling Jays and chubby wrens.Dogs allowed off-leash. So bring your best friend and explore the Preserve together. Come early enough to see the land in daylight, stay long enough to watch the sunset over the Bay.Choose the longer windy Grizzly Peak route to the Staging Area and stop at one of the many lookout points. The view will take your breath away. You will want to take in the massive view of the entire San Francisco Bay (including both sections of the Bay Bridge, the Golden Gate Bridge, Berkeley, Oakland, Alameda and The San Francisco skyline) shimmering in the sunlight and glittering by night.
A great place to give around outdoors while learning of the unique volcanic history of the place. Wild and scenic views so close to the city!
Good 4 mile round trip hike from the parking lot to the top of the extinct volcano
A very great scenic place to take a walk
Its absolutely beautiful and great for hiking!
A beautiful land of enchantment where maidens lovely, raise your spirits, and share delicious top-shelf bubbling spring water with select visitors.
Had a nice day hiking here with the family. Five stars except for how crowded it gets. Not a lot of parking.
Nice place for a walk and take pictures, not to many animals but green!!
Beautiful walking labyrinths here! The most beautiful ones are tucked away in an old quarry, though you can expect a challenging descent. Gorgeous views over the East side of the hills. There are tons of trails crisscrossing all over the park, something for all levels. Best times in my opinion are in winter and spring, when the rain has awakened the grass and the whole place is green. Summer heat makes the whole place brown.
The Sibley Volcanic Regional Preserve is a nice hiking area with a few trails, most of which are dog friendly. There are some decent views and some cool historical volcanic sights.
Incredibly beautiful park
Wonderful hiking trails, fairly easy with some options for elevation if you are so inclined... (*pun very much intended*) bring your dog, or your baby, or your horse -- youll see it all, and enjoy a beautiful assortment of urban and wilderness views!
Great views...great hikes... lots to explore
Pros: nice trail for a hike, interesting explanations about the geological composition of the rocksCons: not enough shade on sunny days, no water fountains(bring water with you for yourself and your pets!)
Wonderful preserve and hiking area, but the signage could be improved for clarity. I appreciated the parking, restrooms, and educational signs!
This is a great place to hike with many different trails to chose from. The restroom area at the Sibley Main Staging Area has a lot of great information about the park. There are a lot of dedicated benches and a few tucked away in the most amazing spots. The hike to the labyrinth is only 1 mile in and this bench was just above it. I was at peace, despite being brutally assaulted by the wind. Pro tip: wear layers.
Fantastic loop trail for kids dogs and other people. Beautiful views and varied terrain.
This is the time to go to Sibley! The hills are green, the temp is perfect and the views are amazing. This is an awesome trail running park! Wide trails that roll through the hills. Take your dogs!
Tremendous views of both the Bay and the San Ramon Valley with bonus points for being dog friendly.
Good hiking trail for a short 1- 2 hour outing. Parking is very limited. We arrived at 10:30 am and parked on narrow Skyline Blvd. Dog friendly and mostly responsible pet owners who kept Fido on leash or off-leash with verbal commands. Good views and vistas, windy at the peaks. 4 stars since it is not as breath-taking as Tilden or quiet as Redwood Park or Chabot. Worth checking out.
Excellent hiking opportunities with spectacular views to boot.
Great hiking!
So many ways and walks to enjoy the beautiful East Bay trails here! Great views, awesome and historic volcanic formed areas of interest and pleasure.
I have never actually been to this location, but from looking at the pictures of other patrons of Google really hes going to make my weekend hopefully, I will let you guys know ASAP and you guys have a good voyage be safe and dont be a drunkard. Peace
One of the best parks in the east bay. Small but so much to explore and ties everything together.
Amazing views over the bay and east to Mt Diablo. A very popular park for dog walkers. A great newt migration in the winter and a variety of trails through different vegetation gives a good introduction to the east bay hills flora and fauna
I was actually working up there doing flooring for the park division. Was a beautiful area though. Hiking and dog friendly.
Wonderful although poison oak is heavy everywhere so wipe down anything that touches the plant with a Clorox wipe or something similar before leaving.
Great trails and open space to run your dog off leash. Trails are muddy now otherwise I would give it 5 stars.
Dog friendly and great information and trails. Not impossible but makes you work. Good for kids too
I dont know how I ended up here but it was a nice drive with my niece and nephew. We went from San Ramon to Antioch I believe and took the back roads.
Well-kept and wide trails with some great panoramic views!
There are multiple trails to explore. Not much shade along the trails
Loved it!!! I enjoy hiking thought moderate and severe hiking trails here is one of my favorite intermediate ones family friendly and pet safe.
Very cool, historical place with gorgeous views and mild- moderate hiking.
Wonderful place to visit with family
Great views and so much better than in the past, our regional parks are all much the place not seen enough by many, who go away from home for the similar reasons..
Im torn. I liked Sibley but... 1) I picked the wrong day / trails. I did the self guided tour route for the most part on a scorching day. Its a very exposed route. I was pretty uncomfortable. 2) Theres a part of the trail thats paved. Like for cars. I took a detour to avoid the roadway, following a lesser traveled trail and ended up in front of a barbed wire fence that blocked me from the main trail. I managed to make it around but boy did my heart sink when I saw that fence. Ill come back but my first experience was a bit discouraging.
Love it, people are respectful with masks too
Beautiful park
I feel a little bad giving this reserve just 3 stars ... It was hot and dry when I went, which isnt the best time to visit. Its very much an East Bay hills experience: grassy hills, oak trees, and a small pond or two. When the weather is cooler, its probably a good place to hike and bike. I just went up Quarry Rd to the pond trail, and its a steep but short climb. Im going to give it another chance in the winter or spring and see how it looks then.
Such a beautiful place. A nice easy walk for those wanting some time outside to enjoy some good views. Also make the trip to Grizzly Peak while youre in the area.
Sibley is a fantastic little park, particularly if you have a hyperactive doggo who needs time off-leash to run around.
Plenty of sunshine and fresh air
Great place to hang out with your furry friend!!
I always love it hete
Great day hike spot!
A lovely setting with some stunning views and a lot of interesting geology.
Lots of trails and scenic views of the East Bay
Very safe and peaceful place to hike and jog
Beautiful park. Good mix of concrete and dirt trails. For a Bay Area park, this is the most wild park that I have been to.
Really great place to hike, and very dog-friendly. Plus, labyrinths!
Breathing soundly atop the hills !
The views and getting to see the remains of the volcano were fascinating!
Fine conditioning hikes for growing children. Great picnics. Magical hidden labyrinths off the beaten path in the most unexpected places.
This is a very beautiful regional park in Oakland. The guide tour is very well done and it has lots of cool information about rocks, volcanoes, tectonic movement, faults, geology, etc. there are plenty of wildlife around ( we saw a gofer snake and several hummingbirds). Sometimes it can be crowded, specially with people walking dogs.
Great place to wander. Great trails for hiking and trail running.
When you want to get away from the concrete jungles of yesteryear, head to backyard of the eastbay. The sprawling hills that are lush year round teleport you to an untouxbed landscape that used to be northern California .tip: As always, hide anything from plain sight from the local wildlife, they will smash and grab.
Fun nature trail to walk.
Nice and easy flat hike, with bonus hilltops for extra beautiful views. We brought our two year old for a picnic lunch on one of the hilltops.
Nice easy path. Great views. Dog friendly.
We took the skyline trail and it was all downhill, so a good climb coming back. Several places were muddy and had to be forded.
Good trail run!
A nice hike with some sun, some shade. Dogs are allowed off leash and all the ones we saw were well behaved.
Man it is a place you want to be at on beautiful day.
Great trails!
Nice walking trails for all ages; even a significant paved trail route. Some trails do have rocky sections and mud during rainy weather. Lots of dogs as this is a popular off-leash allowed space. Wonderful sunset views of Oakland & SF. Ample parking area with facilities. (Keep your valuables out of sight as car break-ins are not uncommon.)
My best friend, john Wayne, got a tick
Lots of trails, great views along the Oakland hills or out to Diablo, several hidden labyrinths - all along the crater of an extinct volcano.
This park has a gorgeous view of the surrounding area.
A BEAUTIFUL park. Not any intense hikes, but its peaceful.
