The Big Frog park on Claremont at Hudson in Oakland is one of the greatest spots in the Bay Area: great attractions for kids of all ages, great atmosphere, signs denoting Masks must be worn at all times, super fun.Love taking our 6 yr. old grandson there. Really nice bunches of kids come here, cool parents and significant others, too.

Love this place, except the under-the-highway location. I wouldnt take my dog here-- yuck! But I do visit the playground as its not completely under the freeway/train. The play structures are wooden, nice to look at but hard to watch toddlers if their popping in & out of the structures. Lots of communal toys left for kiddos to play with here and a couple tables for picnicking.

I love this park its a great environment I wish the little like thats made to be available for when I get extremely hot was truly available when they need it but its not and I also dislike that and the minority areas is park like that available for our kids we have to go where is no diversity in that county where is mostly Caucasian and that hides it really upsets me because in my neighborhood my child to have the same equal availability of that type of quality of Park

One of my kids (ages 6 and 4) favorite park! I love the wooden play structure and the enclosed play area. My son loves to bring his bike and its nice to ride along the trail although sometimes you find 1-2 homeless people sitting on the road along the trail. Never had any issues. Bathrooms are not clean!

This area is close to the Colombo Club and the farmer market, and allows to spend time with the kids and let them play in a rather nice area. The playground has lots of nice structures that are quite original not the usual commercial slides etc. Unfortunately the presence of pigeons means one has to pay attention to droppings. Kids can safely ride a bicycle.

Everything very well organized and everyone very helpful... The side walks, those need attention since Im in a weelchair i pay a lot of attention to this matter and I think that whole area needs some repair, a lot of uneven squares and high lips on the crosswalks, requires a lot of attention so you dont get face planted

This is probably the most unique play structure in Oakland that Ive seen. Its much more interesting than the normal metal structures that you see and has tons of nooks and crannies and a pirate ship and its all wood. The green belt is very interesting also you can show your children where animals would be if we didnt live in an urban environment. The people who made the green belt were amazing and I love that they did this. We are grateful to have this legacy to have our children learn.

This is a really nice park that I frequent with my daughter, her husband and my grandkids. The grandkids love the playground climbing/slide structure - its really big! (theyre 1 & 1/2, 3 and 6) When the other part of the playground (swings, etc) is finished and open to the public (soon!) itll get 5 stars! The walking path, winding through the entire park, is very nice too, covering a long block between one street and another (wish it was longer) and takes one out of the city-feel. I love it when theres water in the stream. The dog runs and a basketball court, along with the grassy areas, make it an all-inclusivse place.

J
Review №35

Nice little urban park. Even has a dog park and basketball courts attached! The majority of the park is very well kept.I do have a complaint with the basketball courts. Ive played ball there a few times myself, and the upkeep of the courts is lacking. The main issue is that there are pigeons and pigeon droppings EVERYWHERE.I investigated this mystery, and it turns out there are two culprits. The first is that the courts lie under the freeway overpass, and pigeons sit on the a small ledge of the overpass directly above the courts. These ledges could certainly use some bird spikes. The second issue is that Ive seen two unrelated individuals feeding the pigeons massive amounts of seed ON THE BASKETBALL COURTS. I cant expect the city to do much about this other than maybe putting up a Do Not Feed The Birds sign?I love playing basketball here, but Im afraid these courts will be unusable if this issue with the pigeons persists. End rant!

This is our favorite playground in Berkely or North Oakland. Unlike the cookie cutter plastic playground which seem to be the norm, this is sturdy timber structure with tons of features and miss anything crannies to explore. There is a separate area for smaller tots, as well a great sand box. My sons favorites are the suspension bridge and the wooden steam engine.

A hidden gem. The GPS seems to take you in spirals to get there and at first it just looks like a parking space under the freeway, but then you see the elaborate play structure and the creek and the greenery and the nature walk. FROG Park is a good weekend destination if your kids need to blow off some steam. It can be crowded, but the play structure is well-designed and large, with lots of twists, turns, nooks and crannies. Plus, its actually made of wood and metal rather than the all-too-common cookie-cutter primary color plastic play structures that have taken over schoolyards and parks. On summer weekends the city of Oakland daylights the Temescal Creek, which flows alongside the bike path from a pool under the redwoods. The park also features a large, fenced-in dog run. The only knocks against it are that it is often very crowded, and that it sits directly under all eight lanes of Highway 24 and the BART line so there is significant traffic noise to contend with.
