It was a great place for my 3 yr old grandson to go for Halloween. He had a blast! It is such a pleasant family atmosphere. Great place for preschoolers. I havent been there in over 30 years since my daughter was little and I still remembered her childhood and my own. I just wish the rides were available but an enjoyable outing nonetheless.
I have been coming to Fairyland since i was a little girl. Both my daughters 1st birthdays were here one is 8yrs other in her 20s. They Both still love it! This place is adorably magical. A hidden little treasure.
Great one night staycation! Our boys loved this place and its local. There are lots of things to do inside the hotel and hopefully when they get a little bit older we can enjoy some of those amenities. Definitely coming back in the future!
Perfect for little ones, not so much bigger children. We took my 2 y/o for his birthday (just a small family outing) for a couple of hours close to sundown. The place was all lit up with beautiful lights strewn everywhere. My 11 y/o daughter was bored very quickly, she is too big for most of the attractions. But my toddler, and my 8 y/o son and niece had a great time
It was absolutely adorable! My 3yr old had the time of his little life. It was a super fun time
We have been many times before (because its amazing!), but today was different since we were visiting during Covid 19. I loved that the park had two separate visiting times with an hour in between, so they have plenty of time to sanitize the entire park. While we were there I saw employees wiping down literally everything. There were sanitation stations everywhere as well as new hand washing stations posted throughout the park. In the high frequented areas there was staff posted to help keep social distancing. Overall I think theyre doing an amazing job making the park a safe place for people to visit during Covid.
There are lots of things to do inside the hotel and hopefully when they get a little bit older we can enjoy some of those amenities.
Still fun. Exciting for my 3 yr old. Price seemed affordable also.
If you are old like me, you will find this delightful place a total throw back to your early childhood. It reminds me of Story Book Gardens at the Wisconsin Dells back in the 1950s where we took family vacations. You will relive the childhood adventures in Fairyland while children delight in climbing, sliding and tunneling through recreations of those tales. We attended a delightful program about starlight, Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. 2 year old grandson loved and so did I. Train ride and sweet treats, yes.
Wonderful place for kids to play, admission fee of $12 per person and kid. Small rides, amazing themes of rhymes and stories bought to life with house and characters. Petting animals like donkey, small horses, rabbits. Good puppet show and story telling. Kids will totally enjoy. Cafe bar for quick grab of foods. Sadly we missed the jolly train ride. Definitely recommend for kids under 5 yrs.
Park for your toddlers, magical and cute; you will have a special time!
Excellent social distancing protocols while still keeping it fun!
Awesome place to have family day! Admission is only $12 which is reasonable price. Children must be 54 or under to ride the rides.
Fairyland is the best kids place in the East Bay. My father used to being me to Fairyland in the 70s and I just love that its still around for my daughter to enjoy. Weve had many a magical escapade at Fairyland; Winter Wonderland, Goblin Jamboree, random weekends or weekdays and have even thrown a birthday party there in the tea room party area. Its a favorite of most East Bay families. The price to get in is reasonable. The whole park is one big fairytale after another and is so much fun. With a Fairyland magic key you can listen to all the great stories and songs. There are animals to see, tunnels to run through, pirate ships to climb, music to play & trains to be ridden. And, lets not forget Western Town, a newer addition to Fairyland, but the kids have lots of fun. There is a jail, two story western style houses, a slide, fake ponies-lots if imaginative play opportunities. We love Fairyland and will continue to go til my daughter gives me the stink eye! LOL
A lot bigger than I imagined! Very adorable and reminds me of a lot smaller and cheaper Disneyland experience. A little rundown but that adds to the charm. My daughter loves this place and finds so much joy in turning the key to listen to all of the nursery rhymes and fairytale stories. I would highly advise buying the $3 key at the entrance! We have a pass here and now go quite often. The only bummer is it is only open weekends! We wish it was open all week long!
Childrens fairyland is a gem that Oakland should be proud to have.Theres an electric train, puppet shows every day, small animal zoo, a ferris wheel, and lots of little interactive exhibits. This was created in 1952 and was a major inspiration for Disneyland. As a matter of fact apparently Walt Disney poached several of the designers and employees to start Disneyland.Theres a food court, wild West world, and much more. If you have children and are in Oakland its a must-see. Sign up for a membership to get discounted access, its worth it.
This place is awesome for kids 2-6-ish! There are little vegetable patches, mechanical exhibits, ponies and other live animals. All around a great place to spend a day with family ️. Must come early though as parking gets filled up quick.
Great and nice place to bring your kids.
Great spot for a family picnic and adventure for the little kids. Especially nice if you have toddlers who want to visit grandparents/great grandparents up the street at St Pauls Towers. Good parking. Great place to let toddlers run, ride the train, pet a sheep, listen to fairy tales, etc. Excellent soy lattes at the little pumpkin.
Awesome park for the kiddos! Borrow some extra kids and they magically entertain themselves with minimal parental mediation. Added bonus for me, the park is creepy/cool.
We went during the adult fairyland and had a great time! It was so much fun to experience all the different activities while walking around with a beer! Also the area was very well maintained and managed.
If you have been to real amusement parks coming here will be a disappointment. Fairy land is very slow, old, it definitely needs some updates. My kids were ready to leave within 1 hr of arriving. Took me longer to drive to fairy land then the time we actually spent there. It was very cheap to get in, a couple of dollars. Overall if your a amusement park type of person that likes going to Disneyland, Knotts, or Universal Studios your going to be disappointed with fairy land like my kids were. I seen a review that compared it to Disneyland, thats a bold face lie. Lol that person that wrote that has never been to Disneyland
Good place to take your kid for a few hours in a sunny day! There is not to many things to do in here and I recommend to bring your own snack!
This place is amazing! Or 9 year old loves it and couldve spends the whole day riding rides and exploring every inch of this park. None of the rides were adult friendly (besides the train I think) so I thought the $13 per adult admission fee was a bit ridiculous, however the kids are able to ride all the rides for free unlimited, which was nice. For 2 adults and 1 kid it was $36 admission just as a reference. We came on a Thursday afternoon, and while there were animals, we couldnt pretty them which was disappointing but the staff informed us there are designated days for petting them, but he didnt have too much more information on that. The animals seemed happy and healthy and it wasnt super stinky (always a plus!). Beware of kids taller than 58, they wont be able to ride a good majority of the rides.
Great place to bring your kids .
This is a wonderful place. We need to help keep.it open. It would break.my heart to see it closed because of the Corona virus.
Great place for a family picnic and walking!
It has been about 30 years since my last visit! But I remember so many things being the same! It was a fun experience with my kids. Now I dont recall the Jack and Jill hill, but its Soo fun I want to make one in my yard!!! The story telling boxes are so loud, we didnt listen to many, some were not working, and the food took forever to get... But it was fun none the less. It looks well kept in some places, others could use attention. The animal area was very cute and one of our favorite sections. Lots of scattered restrooms it seemed like and I appreciated that! Everyone needs to take their family at least once.
Love this place.. grew up there
Its a constant classic that everyone it Oakland loves. Its a pride of the city. My kids love it. My son especially loves the puppet shows. Almost stupid to not buy the membership if you have kids and live in the bay. They should have the pumpkin open more for us parents. Coffee is sometimes essential when you have kids running around the whole place. Which also means there is always something to do. Never a disappointment. Go yesterday.
This place was amazing for my toddler! There are lots of fun activities for the little ones. It’s hard to find fun, playful places for a three-year-old, but this is the perfect place for toddlers! You pay the admission and can ride all the rides as many times as you want. It’s a really neat place! There are different fairytale-themed areas all over- Alice in Wonderland area, book reading places, slides, dragons, carousel, hill sliding area and much more!
Its a great place for toddlers and kids. Took our 17 month old here and she had a lot of fun. There is something for every age. Even though there were lots of families at the park, but the place is so big it didnt feel too crowded. Theres a food area but we didnt get anything from it. We will definitely come back and even consider getting yearly membership ($12 per person one time admission vs. $119 for two adults + three kids for a whole year).
The kiddos I was babysitting had a blast! I loved the troupe of actors that wrote and performed their own play. They even did free face painting.
An absolute treasure in one of the most beautiful locations in Oakland. Highly recommended if you have younger children who are tough to entertain.
I loved Fairyland as a child! Had to take a trip down memory lane from afar! I had my dog with me:)UPDATED REVIEW:My favorite place as a child I got to relive it as an adult! Fairytales 101 for the children now days! No one knows who Jack and the bean stalk is anymore! Regardless of what fairytales they know this is a must for children to attend! Created before Disneyland, this is one mans dream that has turned into a legacy for children to enjoy. With rides, puppet shows, slides and mazes for them to enjoy. See my pictures for more detail!I spent about 2 hours there and that included waiting in a long line for lunch. Several items they were out of so I settled on nachos and pizza. The healthy humus was no longer available! I was also surprised to hear they were out of milk! I did notice several people having a picnic lunch out on the grass and I wish I would of thought of that! Would of saved time and money! All in all...I throughly enjoyed my day and highly recommend visiting Fairyland. Its an inexpensive trip for children ages 2 - 10.
Great place to bring your kids
I loved Fairyland as a child, it is clearly built for children of all ages.! The magic keys that unlock the boxes are such a lovely touch As an adult, it is still whimsical and perfect! Cant wait to see how my child reacts to the park as time goes by!
This place only had 2 of the 3 rides working. It was a nice place for my toddler to run around in. I dont know why they charge adults when all we do is stand around. The only big issue is the neighborhood. We parked our car right next to it and it got broken into. Broke our glass to take my things from the trunk. We are tourists so be careful if you are one too. Oakland is not a safe place from my experience at all. Take all your belongings to the park.
Came here last week for my sons birthday party and it was amazing. him and all his friends and family all had a great time. will make an appearance here again very soon.
This is a good place for kids under 7 yr olds
This childrens park is exceptional. The children have so much fun.
Massively charming. Its a kids amusement park without all the garbage. Its simple and sweet. Disarmingly low tech, but painstakingly crafted. Each attraction is full of beautiful little details. Kids looove this place.
So quirky and fun. Love all the features and rides. Needs maintenance but its like whatever, the kids love it. Best age 1-3.
Great place for a day with the family! Fun for all and very reasonable. Littles maybe dont have quite as much to do as kindergarten ages, but the shows and different things to check out are great for the whole team.
Always fun, imaginative play space that is very diverse.
Great place to bring children ages 1 to 8. There are many attractions for little ones including a train, puppet theatre, crafts, and many other things. Parking is just 5 dollars and you can also buy food. It is in a park with a lake. It is a good idea to buy the membership for the year if you live in the area.
My kid loved it...
$2 for parking for 2 hours, $10 all day, great place for kids 1-8, bring a snack as the food can be a little pricey.
Great place, so much things for children.pack a lunch or you can buy food here. Good selection of food. You can reserve for birthdays and there is a first come first serve part where you can have a party..
Fun for everyone!! Of course kids absolutely love it here and could spend all day wandering around looking at all the funny characters, going inside the adorable little houses and playing on all the rides. And for grown-ups there is an unmistakable sense of nostalgia and you can feel like a kid again too :)
My kid loved it. I remember this place from my own childhood. Great memories.
A sweet gem. It was SO nice to have a fun filled day where we could say yes to everything. Can we climb on the pirate ship? YES! Can we watch the puppet show? You bet! Can we ride the carousel? Of course! We stayed until the park closed and the children were delighted by every nook and cranny of this place. Very charming.
Quaint. For$10, this is good entertainment for kids from 3-5 years. Simple recreation of classic childrens stories. Throwback to more simpler times. Plan to spend around 2-3 hours.
More compact than expected but the kiddo loved it. Might be a little boring for kids over 8ish
Its not new at 64 years old, but the kids in 2020 still love it. The puppet show is so classy and sweet, make sure you can enjoy this 15 mins of bliss! Bring a picnic lunch to eat at the Western town or buy hot dogs at the stand. The cowboy buildings are children only. The kids dont seem to mind the wait for the jolly trolly. Ideal day trip on a sunny day for the whole family.
Beautiful Relaxation LOVE ️️
Such great fun. Old-fashioned amusements, well-priced, and never too busy. A big highlight of our holiday. Great for younger kids up to about age 7.
Really a fun Eclectic fun place the whole family will enjoy. It’s sometimes the simple things in life that bring the best moments!
Fun place for kids to hangout, my 5yr old loved it
Kids love it. Good fun for all ages. Wish they opened earlier to get in a few hours before nap time.
I’ve had a family membership here for 5-6 years and it continues to be exciting for my kids every time we go. This is a real gem and has enough going on to keep the family entertained for a full day. Take advantage of the puppet show, children’s theater, story tellers, arts and crafts, and other activities they offer. They also offer sleep overs at the park during the summer that are well organized and a lot of fun!
The view is really nice and you can walk around lake ..
Its a miniature amusement park - but dont get the wrong idea; the rides and such are for kids (below 10). there is a coffee stand and a grill for food
A fun place for young children. Lots of variety. But, the place is run down and very much showing its age.
This is a great place to take your kids. Very fin and also cheap. A lot of things to do for kids.
Its a great little Indy proto-disneyland; humble, and cute with good slides
Very cute place for young children. This place is clearly a historic, must do activity.
This place was amazing for my toddler! There are lots of fun activities for the little ones. It’s hard to find fun, playful places for a three year old, but this is the perfect place for toddlers! You pay the admission and can ride all the rides as many times as you want. It’s a really neat place! There are different fairytale themed areas all over- Alice in Wonderland area, book reading places, slides, dragons, carousel, hill sliding area and much more!
This is an incredible, perfectly small kid sized amusement park. We took our twin 5 year olds and our 2.5 year old, and it was engaging for all of them. We made it through all of the park during the course of a fun day.Bonus points for having a coffee stand with good coffee for tired parents. :)
Had my two year old daughters birthday party here and Corinna did a fantastic job hosting!! The staff and customer service was excellent, and to top it off it is a very clean and organized environment. We will definitely be returning
A wonderful place. My children enjoy this to the fullest. This is a must go place for children.
Stopped here so our 2 year old could play. It is perfect for younger kids. The staff are all very friendly and there are plenty of activities for kids. Things could use some updating and a fresh coat of paint but its a great way to spend a few hours.
My kid liked it. I feel it needs a renovation since it looks like it is little bit old.
Perfect for toddlers!
This is a fun place to take kids. We went for our first time recently and just had to buy the passes to keep coming back. There is fun stuff for little kids to do probably through grade school age. Nice fun little place by Lake Merritt.
Fun! Fun! Puppet live show! Games active just maybe pack ur own Lunchs food cus that isnt their thing! so best idea cheap also is to bring ur snacks drinks food make a fun outdoor picnic ;)
Great place for younger children. Age 3-5 is probably a good time. The food was not overpriced.
Super fun place to let the kids run and play
Really fun time and lots of other kids to play with. They had a puppet show the day we went and it was really great.
Fantastic for little kids 1 to 6, although some.of the older kids also had fun at the pirate ship playground area. They have all sorts of little houses with a magic key used to turn on speakers that recite a story that our 3 year old loved, a couple of rides, a puppet show and a few other things.
I WAS BORN AND RAISED IN BEAUTIFUL BERKELEY, DURING THE LATE SIXTIES AND EARLY SEVENTIES. CHILDRENS FAIRY LAND WAS MY ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE PLACE ON EARTH. MY DAD AND I WENT TOGETHER AND HAD GREAT FUNI HAVE A HUGE SOFT SPOT FOR FAIRY LAND; I ENJOY IT VICARIOUSLY WHEN EVER I AM IN THE PARK. {OFTEN} I WOULD BE ECSTATIC TO TAKE A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE AND VISIT, UNFORTUNATELY, AS I AM NOT A PARENT, I AM DENIED ACCESS. BOO~HOOONCE SEVERAL YEARS AGO, FAIRY LAND HELD A FUND~RAISER FOR ADULTS ONLY. THIS WAS HELD AT NIGHT, ALCOHOL WAS SERVED, {GASP}FANCY DRESS WAS ENCOURAGED. UNFORTUNATELY FOR ME, I HAD PREVIOUSLY COMMITTED TO A FUNDRAISER FOR PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA ON THE SAME NIGHTYIKES I CHOSE PRESIDENT OBAMA, A CHOICE THAT I STAND BY. PERHAPS I WILL BE FORTUNATE AND RECEIVE ANOTHER OPPORTUNITYHOPE SPRINGS ETERNAL. I HEARTILY RECOMMEND CHILDRENS FAIRY LAND I LOVE YOU, FAIRY LAND
Had a great time with my eight year old daughter. Feels like old Disneyland. Fun old kiddy rides. A kiddy train. Nostalgic. Discovered Bri Crabtree there. She was a blast. Great performer.
Historical icon of our childhood. Very simple basic areas with nursury rhyme themed play stations for little ones to enjoy. Cute train that circles the park. Insect snake house that thrills. Picnic tables through out. No high tech anything.. Puppet plays. Keep a close eye as these are old exhibits uneven cobbled paths. A low-key inexpensive place to bring your family.
Been going here for years great little play place for the kids and right on the lake. This place needs to stick around.
Great place for little ones! My 16 month old had lots of fun, there was so much he was able to do. Hell have even more fun when hes 3 and can really appreciate the park. Well be back for sure.
Many, many years ago I used to bring my kids here. One of them celebrated his second birthday here, and now he is in college and doesnt spend as much time with Mom and Dad. It seems like yesterday. We kept the key, i wonder if it still works? It brings me tears of joy to read all the positive reviews. I just read a review about Fairyland for grownups, what?!Another one is coming up on Friday September 27th called Drawn together Will have to check it out. I would choose to spend a day here rather than Disneyland...
Great for kids, I would say up to 6 or 7 years old. My 4 year old had lots of fun. But the parents are not allowed on any rides except the trolly train, so he was scared the do some stuff by himself.
TRADITION !Im 70.I visited and enjoyed it when I was a kid........(when Jim Henson was first starting out)......Naturally when my son was little Itook him. He liked it.Recently my son,. his family and Itook my 3 year old grandson. He loved it.Not much has changed.GOOD WHOLESOME FUN in Oakland.
Enchanting (albeit little run down) place to bring young kids to enjoy the magic of nursery rhymes and fairy tales. There are only a few rides, a few animals (no petting or feeding), and a couple of food shops. Running around and exploring the exhibits are the main attractions.
Wonderful place to take your child for visits are birthday parties. Live animals, rides, puppy shows, food and souvenir store. Price is fair. This place has been around for years. I remember going there when I was a kid 50 years ago. Brought back memories when I brought my child and again with bringing my grandchildren. Start a tradition with your family.
Awesome place and great attractions
Wow if you are lucky enough to know a kid make sure to go with them!
Great place for young kids! Lots of different storybook exhibits for the kids to run around and explore. The Alice in Wonderland maze is my 2 year olds favorite. Bring in a lunch and eat at the many picnic tables.
Such a fun place!
Historic, but classic fun for the 8 and under set. Something fun around every corner. My whole family really enjoyed it!
Fantastic spot, didnt realize it was right on the lake.
