A very iconic place. Even in these trying times it still looks beautiful. I guess they just started setting up the ice skating rink. Hopefully, they would put up a Christmas tree any time soon. Additionally, it is better to visit it now when are still not too many people and you can actually take nice photos
We visited Rockefeller center during Christmas holding prior to COVID-19 pandemic hit. What an amazing experience it was surrounded by thousands of people was a thrilling experience. Looking back at this was the last time we were around so many people without social distance and wearing preventive gear. The tree was just mesmerizing.
Well to start off.. I work here from 930pm to 5am.. and I have to say I love coming to work and seeing the light and music show at 5th Ave.. especially in a time like this. Its a must see.. the ice skating rink is open. And the Christmas Tree is up.. happy holidays..stay safe
The first day i visited Manhatten i went on top of the Rockerfeller center. im happy i did this instead of The Empire State Building. the way up was fast and briefly. i really enjoyed the view and got a good map of the city from above. I really recommend visiting The Rockefeller Center. Do not forget the shops at the bottom of The Rockefeller Center. In short a really nice place too visit on the first view days of staying in NYC, or in general really fun to get a view of the city.
The foods and drinks were tasty and OK. Besides, the waitress that entertained our order was helpful, informative, and nice. While waiting, we take a picture because of the nice design in the entire restaurant. Honestly, we greatly loved this place. It was satisfying. Thank you!
I’ve lived here. I’ve worked here. I always make it my first stop in the city, especially during Christmas. There is just something so magical about Rockefeller, between the tree, history, skating, and stores (FAO, Nintendo, and Lego basically a kid’s version of paradise). Rockefeller very much embodies the best of New York
Love this place and ILove it more when there’s not a million people there. The little courtyard is great place to take in the scenery. Even Prometheus and Atlas are wearing their masks! Common people do the smart and right thing. Awesome place to stop by.
Iconic landmark. Saw the Christmas Tree and the holiday displays. Due to the pandemic...the place was quite empty. Made for an enjoyable experience.
The most beautiful and exited experience in NY, the view from The Rockefeller Center Tower is amazing, you can appreciate whole NY, so definitely if you go to NY you have to take the tour to this tower, you going to love it, highly recommended... I ️
Best place to go in Christmas. Open for public, close to subway.
Such an interesting an iconic place. Always wanted to see this place with the Christmas tree lit up but it was still really cool to see in the beginning of October. Lots of underground shops as well. Public bathrooms are located here underground as well.
Very good experience when we went up to the observation deck. We had to go into the ground floor booking office and book a slot for a couple of hours later. Good system, as it lessens the queue when you go up. Once up, you get amazing views of the city. Better than the views from the Empire State building, not least because you get a view of that. You also get a better view of Central Park. Plenty of shops, restaurants and coffee places on the plaza level, and as we went over Christmas, the ice rink was on. If you can only fit in one trip up a skyscraper whilst in New York, this is definitely the better choice.
Amazing place especially during Christmas time. Lots of fun things to do. Dining, ice skating and coffee
Saw the Xmas tree for the first time and for someone that is not easily impressed and gives most things a “meh” “it was ok” rating, I have to saw it was pretty impressive. NUC is always pretty fun and festive and this is one of the centerpieces of the Holidays! Visit and enjoy! Was pretty busy so have to be careful with Covid world.
Beautiful beautiful view from the Top of the Rock. Enjoyed each bit of time we spent there. Although I wondered that the view from Empire State would be better... but no, this offers a great view of the entire downtown and uptown Manhattan with the Empire State in it! Pro tip- Make sure you plan your trip to the Top in a way where you see the colors change. Go during the sunset hours and see the city lights come to life.
Christmas tree looked great as it always does. Plenty of staff to direct people where to go for up close pictures. As well as great views from across the street.
Visited the Top of the Rock for the first time. Couldnt have been happier. Covid guidelines followed, made my reservation and it was sooo worth it. Staff were friendly and informative. Highly recommend.
My family and I enjoyed coming here. Rockefeller Center is huge and beautiful. We were able to visit the Nintendo store and FAO Schwartz and had a blast. Masks had to be worn during the visit at each of the stores. It was super cool to see all of the flags and witness this location in person.
Absolutely wonderful to see the tree with the scaffolding around it. was pretty sure they were going to not have the tree this year nor have the skaters something thats been around for decades nice to see a tradition is still alive and people are going to split experience to magic watching an orange the tree lights up thankfully its going to be continuing
Ice skating rink at Rockefeller center and large xmas tree just beautiful
Rockefeller Center is a large complex consisting of 19 commercial buildings covering 22 acres (89,000 m2) between 48th Street and 51st Street in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. The 14 original Art Deco buildings, commissioned by the Rockefeller family, span the area between Fifth Avenue and Sixth Avenue, split by a large sunken square and a private street called Rockefeller Plaza. Later additions include 75 Rockefeller Plaza across 51st Street at the north end of Rockefeller Plaza, and four International Style buildings located on the west side of Sixth Avenue.
Due to covid-19 restrictions Im souring on taking kids ages 5 and under here. The bannisters keep you from getting close to tree and you cant put a kid on your shoulders for safety reasons. Whats a 3 footer to do. Also the security is plain out rude. Silver lining. Go-to the city winery hot chocolate cafe downstairs. For s price of a hocho you get to see everything and stay warm
The NYC Christmas Tree was amazing!!! Im so glad, I came to see it in person.
In 1928, the sites then-owner, Columbia University, leased the land to John D. Rockefeller Jr., who was the main person behind the complexs construction. Originally envisioned as the site for a new Metropolitan Opera building, the current Rockefeller Center came about after the Met could not afford to move to the proposed new building. Various plans were discussed before the current one was approved in 1932. Construction of Rockefeller Center started in 1931, and the first buildings opened in 1933. The core of the complex was completed by 1939.The original center has several sections. Radio City, along Sixth Avenue and centered on 30 Rockefeller Plaza, includes Radio City Music Hall and was built for RCAs radio-related enterprises such as NBC. The International Complex along Fifth Avenue was built to house foreign-based tenants. The remainder of the original complex originally hosted printed media as well as Eastern Air Lines. While 600 Fifth Avenue is located at the southeast corner of the complex, it was built by private interests in the 1950s and was only acquired by the center in 1963.Described as one of the greatest projects of the Great Depression era, Rockefeller Center was declared a New York City landmark in 1985 and a National Historic Landmark in 1987. It is noted for the large quantities of art present in almost all of its Art Deco buildings, its expansive underground concourse, and its ice-skating rink. The complex is also famous for its annual lighting of the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree.HistoryEditFor more details on construction, see Construction of Rockefeller Center.ContextEditThe first private owner of the site was physician David Hosack, who purchased twenty acres of rural land from New York City in 1801 for $5,000 and opened the countrys first botanical garden, the Elgin Botanic Garden, on the site.[8][9][10] The gardens operated until 1811,[11][12] and by 1823, ended up in the ownership of Columbia University.[12][13] Columbia moved its main campus north to Morningside Heights by the turn of the century.[14][15]Rockefeller Center originated as a plan to replace the old Metropolitan Opera House (pictured).[16][17]In 1926, the Metropolitan Opera started looking for locations to build a new opera house to replace the existing building at 39th Street and Broadway.[16] By 1928, Benjamin Wistar Morris and designer Joseph Urban were hired to come up with blueprints for the house.[17][18] However, the new building was too expensive for the Met to fund by itself,[2] and John D. Rockefeller Jr. eventually gave his support to the project (John D. Rockefeller Sr., his father, was not involved).[2][19] Rockefeller hired Todd, Robertson and Todd as design consultants to determine its viability.[3][20] John R. Todd then put forth a plan for the Met.[21][22] Columbia leased the plot to Rockefeller for 87 years at a cost of $3 million per year.[21] The initial cost of acquiring the space, razing some of the existing buildings, and constructing new buildings was estimated at $250 million.[23] The lease initially excluded a strip along Sixth Avenue on the west side of the plot, as well as another property on Fifth Avenue between 48th and 49th streets.[9][24]Rockefeller hosted a symposium of architectural firms to solicit plans for the complex,[25][26] but it did not yield any meaningful plans.[27][28][29] He ultimately hired Corbett, Harrison & MacMurray; Hood, Godley & Fouilhoux; and Reinhard & Hofmeister, to design the buildings. They worked under the umbrella of Associated Architects so none of the buildings could be attributed to any specific firm.[1][4][2][3] The principal builder and managing agent for the massive project was John R. Todd, one of the co-founders of Todd, Robertson and Todd.[30] The principal architect and leader of the Associated Architects was Raymond Hood, a student of the Art Deco architectural movement.[5][6] The other architects included Harvey Wiley Corbett[5] and Wallace Harrison.[31] L. Andrew Reinhard and Henry Hofmeister had been hired by John Todd as t
If you’re still thinking of weather to go up or not: DO IT. It’s certainly the second best view in New York City, only a notch behind One World Observatory. You can see the Empire State Building, Central Park and many other major sights. There wasn’t a line when I was there but you just have to be lucky I guess. Great spot to take pictures as well
Really enjoy myself and niece.
I’ve been here in the past and it’s been so packed with people that it’s hard to look at anything. Came down here on a Sunday and I felt like I was the only one there because of the pandemic and I loved it. I was really able to take in all the great architecture. I know that it’s one of those places that mostly tourists visit but it really should be a place any New Yorker should visit.
Really amazing, looked nice to see everything on top and the major plus point is you get whatever time you need to stay up there unlike The Edge nyc. The staffs are humble. Overall a good experience
This was a very beautiful and magical place to be on Christmas night! The huge Christmas tree and all the decorations were breathtaking. Their was so many people every where, it would be easy to get lost in the huge crowd of people. Everyone seemed to be content and happy to be there. This is definitely a 5 star place. I recommend going here if you ever have the opportunity .
Beautiful structure that stands tall and proud in the city. The clouds reflect off of the building creating a spectacular view. There are many places to eat and shop in this center, also activities like ice skating. Absolutely a must visit, on a trip to NYC for any age.
Definitely alot more quiet these days....but we still love it!
A New York City icon. Beautifully decorated year-around. During Christmas, it can be very busy. Just go whenever it opens. Rich history and fantastic views of the city.
Wonderful time with my family. Fall decoration beautiful and great atmosphere. You will need to go there if you visit NY
I was trying to reach Simon and Schuster. My good fortune was speaking to the security guard in the lobby at RC & him then providing me with the number for the reception desk at S&S where my good fortune continued when I spoke to another gentleman. BOTH of these men could NOT have been any nicer. I am sorry to say I didnt get their names but it was in the afternoon on Thursday, Sept 3rd early afternoon 1-2 pm. I hope you are able to find them and recognize them for their kindness and above & beyond attitude!!
Wow wonderful and beautiful place, I really enjoyed the visit, I loved it, it is full of glamor, many lights stores. In general, I recommend visiting the entire complex, in every corner there is something interesting, I suppose that a very good time to visit is Christmas, when they place the big tree and the decoration must be spectacular
I love how they decorated for the holidays but I also loved going to the stores there 100% recommend coming here for the holidays
Rock Center is always a fun and exciting place to go, especially during the Thanksgiving to Christmas time frame.
Really nice experience to visit this...it was on my last list to visit in NY but its best skyscraper amongst all, its close to times sqaue and walkable, on the top of the building the view is pure scenics to see upper and mid downtown and of course view of the empire state building
Fantastic place. I personally had a really great experience. I would recommend people who visit NY City should definitely visit this place. Its crowded though but youll have fun there.
So much fun,so many things to do & beautiful decorationsGreat place for pics!
Had a great time site seeing. I felt very safe with the security around. No crowed when I went so that was a plus.
Love it no matter what! During Covid19, youll find people wearing masks and/or sitting far apart. Theres plenty of sanitizer throughout.
I wonder how they make skating place in winter.
I love Rockefeller Center even if its raining on a Sunday during COVID.
The details and architecture of this place is amazing. There’s a big path, leading you to the center. On both sides there are these shops such as; Lego shop, Clothes shop, etc. After walking down the path you will come to the Rockefeller Center. Under you is a bar, which is popular by both locals/ tourists. I would recommend visit this place at night time.
I was here to take photograph of Empire State Building. Its on the Rock observation deck on 70th floor. I like the architecture of the building, it is art deco and international? What a view!
It is a really cool place to visit with really nice people working there. Going to the top floor was also a cool experience. I would recommend checking it out.
Is it like in the movies? The answer to that is: How much are you into the movies? If youre into Hollywood alot, then you can totally imagine yourself part of that memorable scene. If youre not so much into it, then: Eh, meh! The ice rink is too small; Theres too much going in, Its tiny and cramped. Anyway, the place has good energy. Very touristic feel. Do the NBC Tour. Climb to Top of the Rock - That way you can have the Empire State Building in your photograph!
We went inside NBC Studios the staff was very welcoming and friendly. Everything was clean.
The Rockefeller Center. Do not forget the shops at the bottom of The Rockefeller Center. In short a really nice place too visit on the first view days of staying in NYC, or in general really fun to get a view of the city.
Absolutely stunning views. Wonderful staff. Overall great experience.
We had such a great time here. The weather was gorgeous and seeing all of the different countrys flags was just gorgeous! Loved that the statues were wearing masks.
Theyve set up tables and chairs at safe social distance that you can use to relax and enjoy your surroundings. Theyve also put a face mask on Prometheus!! Clever!
A classic Big Apple location which has not lost any of its magic during the pandemic!
12/2/20, Almost tree decorating time. Tree here!!
Lovely dinner with musicOnly 3 days per week
Love walking through the plaza after Sunday service at St. Patricks Cathedral. ️
Pretty, fun. Great for windows shopping. I havent eaten here in years, sho I cant comment about that. Nice atmosphere to enjoy with friends.
I choose this building over the Empire State because you can see the view of the Empire state from this one. Also closer to Central park and Time square so overall - this is my pick between the two.
My favorite dishes are The Wings, Philly Steak and those famous fries. What a great recipe, I had a huge Chinese Chicken Salad, French Fries and beer.Huge servings, great flavor, and super friendly service.
Im not from New York so I visited a lot of the regular touristy traps. Rockefeller Center was on my list of places to visit. I Loved it! The building is awesome to just hang around outside and people watch but its going to the top that youre there for. Its $45 to take an elevator ride to the top, which is worth it to go at least once. I went at night and wow! What a view! Its gorgeous from up there at night. It looks both alive with action and peaceful at the same time. When youre up there youre going to take a lot of pics and you should.
Didn’t know the view was going to be so great ! Specially of the entire Central Park
A little place at Christmas time. The ice rink is one of the biggest in New York and a lot of things to do around. Very close to Time Square. The view from Rockefeller Center Observatory is marvelous. The St. Patricks Church near the Center is beautiful and a very calming place to be at. The sacks building near it has a fantastic light show around the Christmas-New Year time.
Not much in the summer or fall. Then again, theres corona, so maybe that ruined it? I hear theres ice skating in the winter. Maybe that will make it nice.
The service was great as usually. The gentleman at the door open the door for the customer to get in and out, I was very thankful because these days I dont want to touch anything. The sales lady helped me to pick the right colors for me. Thank you everyone at Jcrew, my shopping experience was sweet and fast.
It was so much fun, had a blast
Love it! great place, have a lot of open spaces, shops and restaurants. easy to commute.
A very nice shopping complex. It has many service centres and clothing shops. It is one in all shopping complex that meets each and every persons needs
There are several things to do inside Rockefeller center. If youre a fan of many TV shows you should go to the NBC store that is inside, you can attend some live taping of some of the greatest live shows, you can go shopping and eating inside, and of course you can go up to the Observatory and see the magnificent view without missing out on seeing the building that you are in since the Rockefeller center is not that magnificent from outside unlike Empire State Building and One World Trade Center.
Its Rockefeller Center at Christmas! What more needs to be said? Its beautiful!
Superstore for all you puma fans very nicely done right on the corner of 5th avenue I have a big selection great staff
For a taste of art, history, and scenery, experience the Rockefeller Center and Top of the Rock tours. I’ve been coming to New York since I was a kid and have done most of the typical sightseeing a tourist can do in the city. These tours were exceptional and are something I now recommend to anyone looking for touristy things to do in the city. I gained a new perspective of the history and people who shaped some of New York’s famous landmarks and the city’s culture. The guides have a deep knowledge and interest in history so ask a lot of questions. Don’t sleep on this truly unique experience!
Make sure to visit it when you are in NY. During the winter it has an ice skating rink, which is very nice!
A must see if you are in the vicinity of midtown Manhattan.A series of deco buildings comprise the Rockefeller Center famous for its Christmas tree lighting and changing landscape designs.Famous mural by Diego Rivera are inside the hallways of the main building including the tourist destinations Top of the Rock and the Rainbow Room. The ice skating rink at ground level dominates during the winter season.
Love the courtyard. Nice place to hangout, read a book or just relax.
Went in the early spring season so the famous Christmas tree was already taken off, nonetheless the ice rink was still there and fully utilized and full. Its an absolutely charming, classy, and historically rich location. The only way to understand the history behind the sculptures and its founders is to take the rockefeller tour which can be bought from the At the Top ticket desk.
The guided tour was worthwhile and good value. The guide provides a first hand description of the history and current usage, by radio headsets and brings all 19 buildings to life! Undertake the tour before the observatory, this sequence provides a better perspective and allows you to appreciate the view over Manhattan and the Empire State.
Definitely would go back. Free parking is available at night, literally right next to it. 10pm seems like a great time to go.
Highlight of our NYC trip was the views from the Top of the Rock at night. Stunning. Finding where to pay and where to go from there could be better sign posted (is the route sign posted at all?) but well worth it when you see those city lights spread out below you everywhere you look
It was beautiful great place to take the family
Too bad the shops and the skating rink were closed. But despite that, Top Of The Rock does not. And it was incredible!
Visited this since this should be a notorious spot. The region is extraordinary to stroll around yet very little else to truly do here in the spring. Inside the structure has a visit yet that is nothing truly energizing or extraordinary. Extraordinary little bistro outside. In the event that you are visiting NYC and are on a tight timetable, dont squander your valuable time on this.
Nice cafe at the skating ring.
Very nice location, great place to take pictures and spend time with family
I love every single thing about Rockefeller Center, from skating on the ice rink with colorful world countries’ flags flapping in the wind, to slowly wandering the interior east-west retail and north-south transit corridors with a cup of coffee to see the historic 1930s murals on wall and ceilings to discover every nook and cranny of this place. I particularly love seeing where entrances poke up from the underground corridors to the street or even inside adjacent buildings.
Awesome experience.must visit once. Though shops are closed but food carts are available on Christmas. Also fun activity like skiing is the attraction though waiting time is too much which is quite obvious there. Light musical presentation is mind blowing
The view from the top of the rock looking back down on Manhattan and the empire state building is fantasticEspecially at Night, absolutely Magic
This is an unique experience for anyone who loves Christmas, tree, lights, and crowds. The tree is gigantic and looks the best in the evening when it is completely lit. The ice skating rink add to the feel. Try the rating opting available near by and also don’t miss the light show at Saks. This year the theme was Frozen and standing amidst the crowd is worth it. However Be prepared to walk and be a part of a slow moving crowd. But the crowd is well controlled and hence not very tiring.
When we went there it was COMPLETELY empty and we got such wonderful pictures! Its great!
One of the most iconic places in NYC. It is a pleasure to walk around this area
If you’re at all interested in the history of New York or America, take the guided walking tour. These buildings have some amazing secrets and are a crucial piece of Americana. The whole Rockefeller center is full of Art Deco design which has been virtually untouched for nearly a hundred years. If you go anywhere on your NYC visit, make it Rockefeller Center.
It is a Christmas must visit place in NYC. Our family visit it every year during Christmas time for the real Christmas tree, ice-skating rings and all the beautiful lighting around the whole center.
My favorite building in NYC! It never gets old! Gives you a superbly stunning view of the entire city that never sleeps! You have to go on the very top to check it out for yourself!
This is very special place! It’s surrounded by iconic stores! People come from all over the world to visit! The special time come is around Christmas. Simply beautiful! Enjoy!
Whether its Christmas time or not, Rockefeller Center is just a wonderful spot in the Midtown District. With a plethora of eateries and Shoppes in the area Rockefeller Center offers up a variety of sights. I for one love coming here after our Saturday 5:30 service @St. Patricks Cathedral with my wife and daughter. From 5 star restaurants to casual dining and many fine stores to just browse or shop from there is something for everyone.Come Christmas time its the jewel of Midtown. This years tree was topped with a Swarovski Crystal Star and they had a replica of the Star at ground level for passerby to take plenty of pictures of. Be prepared, it is crowded and the throngs of people can be overwhelming for those who dont like large crowds. The only drawback is that you have to be mindful of the barely 2 sidewalk curbs. I took a spill last Saturday night and fortunately I had not hurt myself too badly.Overall, its a must see spot in Manhattan. No trip is complete without a visit to Rockefeller Center. You can also go to the Top of The Rock viewing platform to get magnificent views of Manhattan but weve yet to do that. Perhaps the next time.Until then...
A cathedral to Art Decco, Rockeller center feels like the center of the universe. It is easy to loose yourself in the architecture while you imagine the number off people that this spot influenced over its tenure as the hub of American broadcasting.

I made it here for Christmas Eve. Accept the crowds and slow moving, but I promise you can get to where you are going to if you plan for it. Seeing the tree was a bucket list item. I heard 5 different languages from people me and loved knowing I was in a place where people from all over were joining in the same amazement I was experiencing. You can see some cool store fronts too! A must see ant time of year, but especially during Christmas.
