One of the greatest things that the US has ever done is creation of the United Nations! To marvel at the aquamarine glass of the UN Secretariat Building, is to marvel at the power, influence, diplomacy and greatness of America. While there, you can take one of their tours. Nothing like it. This is where the world comes to say what it wants to say. The freedom of this place is matched only by the prestige all the flags bring to America each time they flutter and herald names of lands distant and foreign - but very much a part of the great commity of nations that together comprise our world!

Ago They provide guided tours with those who want more detailed features in the headquarters. The tours are, of course, not for free and can be applied for online but they are totally worthy. For those who are travelling NYC in not enough budgets, this is not sure but I assume you can just go in the buildings. During the security check at the building right across the HQ, you can say the purpose is for tour. But you would not be able to enter the specially purposed places, but the first floor and the souvenir shop downstairs possibly. Not sure, so please check with others!

Tours are very professional, and informative. The UN itself does such important work; and getting in and visiting helps to show how much they do! I’d recommend this even to those who don’t have a particular interest in politics or governance. The artwork, architecture, concept, and beautiful vistas are amazing.

If you are in NYC and have time this is a must visit. Definitely book one of the tours in advance from the website. Make sure to get there early as you have to check in across the road in a separate building first and ensure you have your passport. The tour is very informative and its great to see everything in person that you see on TV. It also gives you an appreciation and better understanding of everything the UN does. After the tour it finishes near some gift shops that sell items from all the member states and a great cafe. We really enjoyed and spent a few hours after the tour just walking about and looking at all the various displays etc. Once you are in as a guest and after the tour ends you can stay for as long as you like essential (or at least until it closes lol).Plenty of great photo ops aswell. Definitely an A+.

It was one of the highlights of our New York trip to be at the UN building. Can you imagine being right at the center of the Worlds Stage? We got a guided tour to learn all about what UNs mission is and does. We were lucky to witness the General Assembly is session. There are 193 countries that are represented at the UN from permanent to non-permanent members. If you have not been to NY or the UN building, you owe it to yourself to go there. They are involved in worldwide peacekeeping missions to ensuring health and education and food and safety and planets future and more.

It has three high rise buildings in very posh area of Manhattan. Visitors are allowed in one if them. It was great from outside, however inside wasnt as great as I was expecting. Inside interior is quite humble and simplistically designed. Just like any posh building in Islamabad. There were quotes on the walls from people around the world who contributed for the betterment of the world somehow. From Pakistan, it was Malalas...Then, there were souvenir shops and a little cafe. Walls were decorated with portraits of various world leaders. I liked the outer area more than the inner one. Its recommended to visit here if visiting New York because of its historical importance and for the sake of experience.

It was a great experience to be part of history. United Nations as it stands has been a great initiative by mankind. We went on a weekday for the tours which are $20 / Adult and $12 / students. When we initially checked online a week before, there were no tickets available but the night before they opened up. So make sure you check the website regularly. Otherwise you can go there and buy the ticket for the next available tour.Make sure you go to the Visitor center across the street from the UN building to check in and get your hand band. They only allow 1 person in the group/family to go in. Kids are welcome to go with parents so they can get a nice experience. Then you go across the street to the UN Building through security. No water bottles just like airline security. There are water fountains inside the UN building to fill them up.The tours start inside the building and run every 15 minutes and they last around 45 minutes to 1 hour. Some tour guides see good; ours was ok. We had a hard time understanding her with her accent. They take you through the various rooms where the delegates meet and discuss and provide a history of each of the initiatives of the UN. Dont miss the stone statue which was scarred from the atomic bomb. It was smooth on the side that fell and faced the ground and scarred on the back due to the intense heat. After the tour, there is a cafe and a gift shop in the basement. You can stay as long as you want afterwards, but there really isnt much to see.

One of the best experiences in my life . It was on the 9th of August. I visited the Head quarters of the United States on a program of Indigenous People. The security of the UN HQ is so protective and they are so serious about their duties. But, friendly and helpful. Before you walk in youll see a lot of monuments and statues gifted to UN from other countries. After walking in youll discover a lot of architectural stuff. Nice gifts from Nations to the United Nations. Very satisfying. Also, they have a store you can buy stuff as a memory. The programs are very well organized and a lot of stuff to learn from people.Great memory!

Don’t bother coming on the weekends, there really isn’t much to do other than walk around the General Assembly and the courtyard. Try getting a tour if you can. This is truly a unique experience if youre somewhat interested in politics, international cooperation or similar. We were able to pre-order the tickets for the tour online. Actually, this was so seamless that we made the order on the subway on our way there, on the subway between Times Square and Grand Central. The price was about $30 per person.Afterwards, we had to assign one leader of our group to go for a security check inn. The assigned person needs to provide ID such as passport. Once this process is done, the group can proceed to the next security check point, at the UN building itself. Once done, your group may enter the building and proceed to the tour area. The tour itself was quite inspirational. We ended up with a very energetic and dedicated tour guide. Which I believe enhanced the experience. Very informative. Its also nice that we were given plenty of time to take pictures within the different chambers of the building.I will gladly recommend this experience to others.

The tour is fine. You get to see the general assembly, security council and trusteeship council halls.Beware that in one or more of these halls, meetings might be ongoing and you may not get to see it.Also, although some people get to visit the floor of these halls, visitors on tours are not allowed to even get close to the floor.Im still wondering who were the others who could tour the floor - which is actually what I was expecting of a tour of the UN.Theres a check-in and a security check before you can enter the building, too. So, if you have purchased your ticket online, prepare to be there about half an hour early.

The United Nations is headquartered in New York City in a complex designed by a board of architects led by Wallace Harrison and built by the architectural firm Harrison & Abramovitz. The complex has served as the official headquarters of the United Nations since its completion in 1952. It is in the Turtle Bay neighborhood of Manhattan, on 17 to 18 acres (6.9 to 7.3 ha) of grounds overlooking the East River. Its borders are First Avenue on the west, East 42nd Street to the south, East 48th Street on the north, and the East River to the east. The term Turtle Bay is occasionally used as a metonym for the UN headquarters or for the United Nations as a whole.

It is a great place to work! I mean there is no bigger stage in the world than the UN. I grew up in a culture where everyone asks you when you are a kid, whether you want to be a doctor, engineer, lawyer or play cricket for Sri Lanka when you grow up? When I said that I want to play cricket, work at @unitednations and be a diplomat one day, people laughed at my last two ambitions. Every Sri Lankan is born with the dream of playing cricket for Sri Lanka and so did I, but only a very few get the chance to fulfill the dream at once and I was not one of them. Yet here I am today at a UN General Assembly. There are so many tourists who come and visit NYC and i think visiting the UN is a must but please make sure you get tickets early.

That would be the best as you could go to the UN bar, which the tour does not take you to! Either way better to visit it when is warm so you can walk outside without freeze. You will visit the multiple meeting and conference rooms, of different sizes, and each of them with a different decoration. The General Assembly is the biggest and probably the most famous one as we have seen it multiple times on TV.
