Good happy hour spot! I had the brown sugar plum wine which I thought was decent and my friend had the Clever cocktail, which he didn’t like (“there’s too much going on”). But the ambience is spot on. There was live jazz music as the night went by and that was really nice! Also loved their curry croquettes. Would definitely come back for those! We ordered the cod roe spaghetti because we saw so many reviews, but I honestly don’t think that was worth it. It didn’t have any protein or veggies apart from some alfalfa sprouts. The omurice was decent and the yaki udon as well.

So I went here, without a reservation on a Saturday. Yes, rookie move. They only do reservations on Saturday but I was lucky enough to get squeezed in for a night for great cocktails and sacks. The staff here is fluent in Japanese and English. They work hard. They always ready to help. I have to say, that this is a common theme in the area. Anyways, if you do go, I recommend you go early to beat the lines. Period. If youve been to Angel Share you know what I mean. Cheers.

Cute basement Asian jazz bar. What a combination, right? But it definitely worked! I actually passed right by this place but I heard the jazz music and did a double take to come in. At first we couldn’t open the door so make sure you ring the door bell! I posted the schedule of the live music schedule. Unfortunately for me I came as the musicians were wrapping up but this cozy place was a treat. The decor was very crowded but in an interesting way because there was a lot to look at. Each table is lit by an old fashion candle flame and is very intimate. We ordered the corn croquette which was tasty but burning hot so give it a minute. We also had the avocado spaghetti which I didn’t expect the dried seaweed and fish on top so beware!

Unapologetically pretentious, even during times of covid. You’d think that a business (especially restaurant) would be willing to make some kind of concessions for long time customers during the time of covid. Not them. God forbid. After my girlfriend and I were told there would be a 45 minute wait to go dine/drink indoors, we were told that we wouldn’t be able to sit down at one of the many empty tables outside on the makeshift poorly decorated patio of theirs on the sidewalk to have a few drinks while we waited. For no reason whatsoever.Keep in mind temperatures dipped in the 50’s last night.. even then, their arrogance would not let them break their made up, mindless rules.Place is overpriced . Staff is rude. And the food is almost inedible.Make sure to check out all the HEALTH VIOLATIONS BROKEN.“Presence of mice and droppings in and around areas of food preparation”NO THANKS. Saiyonara

Places like Tomi is the reason to live in NYC. A small hidden gem located in the Eastern part of Midtown, Tomi is a favorite of my wife and me. If you can get to Tomi before 7P, theres a very big discount for happy hour on booze and food. The place is quite small, so making a reservation is highly recommended. Otherwise, you may be able to get in on a time-limited seat, but most likely, youll be one of the many people standing outside on the stairs waiting to get in. The ambiance is very intimate and has an elegant chic vibe given the live jazz performance every night. Unlike most jazz clubs, the food here is to die for. Tomi serves up what I would classify as Japanese comfort food, and we have not found a place as good as Tomi despite all the places listed under the Japanese category in NYC. Our favorite things to order includes: gobo chips, any croquette, spam rice balls, avocado salad, cod roe spaghetti, gratin, doria milanese, and both versions of the omelet rice (om-rice). If youve never had om-rice, this is one of the first dishes you should try when visiting Tomi.

A cozy basement Japnese fusion restaurant with live Jazz performances almost every night. The food is a little pricey but pretty yummy. I wish that they have a better set up for the musicians though. C
Review №29

So-so. Entranceway is far too crowded: a narrow stairwell attempting to accommodate musicians and their large instruments squeezing past a long line of customers standing in the blistering cold for over an hour. The venue is very small and, again, very crowded; a maze to get to your seat and out again. Improvements to the venue such as a move to a better location should definitely be on the menu. Cod roe pasta was decent but Japanese curry rice tasted like a microwavable home meal. Jazz music is either your cup of tea or its not; either way there is a cover charge even if youre just there to eat.

I highly recommend to make reservation in advance, unless there’s no guarantee of getting inside.Luckily, there were two tables not show up so we got lucky to get in. The servers are kind- one server took pictures for us(i did not ask him, but he was passionately taking photos for us and that was greateful. In addition to that i saw one couple behind us being quite sensative and aggressive but the gate lady dealt with them pretty well. I tried highball(japanese cocktail mix of whiskey and soda) honestly it was first time for me to try it so no idea if the drink was fantastic or not but it was okay. My boyfriend ordered house warm sake- it was really good for no doubt. We had dinner already so just ordered fried brie cheese(recommened by server) and it was yummy. I would come back to try another cocktail.

This place is the epitome of what makes NYC, NYC. Its located in a low key spot on 53rd St. We barely found it as the signage isnt heavily pronounced. We waited outside with a few other couples and groups since the capacity is very small so prepare to be out in the cold till there is enough space. Almost claustrophobic feeling but not enough to make you feel uncomfortable. Once inside, youre taken into a chill dim world of jazz music, and candlelit tables. Its hard to be upset about the seating arrangements albeit you may be seated in a large communal table, bar stool seats, at a table with one very short barstool on one side, and a cushioned bench on the other. As uncomfortable the short stool was, I didnt care. I was enjoying minute of my fiancees company and the atmosphere. The food was fantastic. They have small Japanese plates where we were able to select a few interesting plates. I highly recommend the home-made spring rolls, baked chikuwa wrapped mozzeralla and shrimp croquette. Not one of these disappointed. If we hadnt eaten prior to coming to Tomi Jazz, we would have ordered more. By the end of the night, I had to try the green tea ice cream. Again, it was probably the best Ive tasted. Very well prepared, and served in a stainless steel cup to add that old school touch. All this and a live band after 9pm, is what you get at Tomi Jazz. A quaint, romantic, chill spot to hang out with the one you love or friends. Great food, the friendliest of servers Ive ever met, and great music.

Mini Oil lamps for candlelight, memoribilia on the wall, etc. Nake sure to make a reservation on their website, they run out of space fast. Even opening time on a Sunday was almost not allotted. I tried Hayashi Rice, Tanmen Ramen, sausages, and proscuito wrapped mozzarella. Nice little fused variation. The mozzarella and Hayashi Rice stood out! Was visiting NYC for the 2nd time ever and came here last Sunday the 26th for my first Jazz club/bar experience in the city. I will never forget this experience. It was like a movie scene. The romantic/cool atmosphere the place creates is off the charts. Kengo Yamada the live band/musician for that night played beautiful music and their female singer just had a phenomenal voice. Me and my girl had a wonderful time and both agreed this was the main highlight of our trip. One of the coolest bars Ive been to in the city.Food: 3/5. Its good, but the ambience isnt quite right. The ramen was quite excellent, but I wont eat here again. Try to eat elsewhere and come here to enjoy drinks and the music.Drinks: great selection of beer, cocktails, wine, and sake. Theres something for everyone and not overpriced for the city.Atmosphere: very cozy (aka tight), dark, and cool. Youre 6 inches away from your neighbors and can hear everything they say (my neighbors were on their first date and discussing exes in great detail and plans for kids), but its okay because its mostly drowned out by the excellent music. The wait: came on a Friday night and waited 30 mins to be seated on the first floor, NOT in the corner behind the main entrance where you couldnt see anything. Could have been worse.Cost: $10 cover Friday and Saturday nights, and a $10 minimum per person every night. For such a cool hangout, they could easily double or triple this and Id still come.Service: theyre masters at twisting and turning, somehow never knocking over any thing or person in the tiny space. Overall attentive and kind but understandably hurried and busy.

This has to be the biggest scam of a jazz club, ever. I went on a date. We went thru the whole comic of having to wait outside the door, etc. When our table was “ready” we walked in and it was a cool atmosphere. They bring us upstairs away from the music, you cant even see the band, no matter hear them. There was a minimum $$$ to stay, so we both ordered drinks. My friend did not drink alcohol so he ordered a juice. It was basically water with a little juice. This is 2019, what kind of d-list restaurant (that has a MINIMUM you have to spend) waters down your beverage you pay $6 for? I understand it’s a business and you have to make money but this was crazy.Next they asked us if we would like to move to a table closer to the music. They start to move our table downstairs and said that we have to pay a cash cover to sit downstairs by the music... this was the last disappointment. We just left and went to another place to listen to music. It’s too bad because the idea is cool and the atmosphere is nice but definitely not worth the hassle. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
