Cool little underground comedy club. Usually good comics, there are several shows per night. The early shows are new talent shows and can be fun to see new comics trying their stuff out. Later shows have some well known names and usually listed on the board outside the club. The shows i have been to (+25 times) are new talent shows and are much fun. 2 drink minimum (standard). Good eats in the area too- certainly worth going for some laugh.
Had a great time here watching a friend. A little small, but it was fine. Love the comedians they had up there. I’ll definitely will be returning.
Went to the Friday Night 6.30 show and although there was only about half a dozen of us in the audience we had a fine time. Comedians were funny and engaging. Even though my party of 3 tried to hide in the shadows most of the comics still engaged with us! Dont get the neg reviews about prices. All comedy clubs in NYC expect a 2 drink minimum and prices were no more expensive than any other downtown joint youd visit. We booked in advance but couldve walked in, though the show after us looked much busier. Recommended.
Full marks to the brave and creative comics here who line up to make us laugh. The world needs more comedians and this is a great place to support them. Can be rude, crude and cringey. 2 drink minimum. Try to get a seat facing the front so you don’t get a sore neck.
There is a cowboy at this comedy club. Hes Dustin and he talks jokes. Yippee Ki Yay. One time I was there and he was on stage telling jokes but a steer walked in and Dustin roped him and then we all had steaks. Go to this comedy club, friends and lovers.
The comics were ok. Some better than others. It was not a good investment of $25 with a 2 drink minimum.
In a city of talent, this was disappointing. The comedians missed the mark and I don’t think anyone laughed until about the 4 or 5th act. I’d venture there’s a lot of talent in this city, just didn’t find it here.
Awesome Time went there for my BFF Bday
Setting: a dark basement with cozy candles. It was raining and chilly outside so it made it nicer to be inside. I went alone and was seated by the organizers with 3 nice strangers from MA and NJ.Content: I had never been to a comedy club before and hence the 5 stars for the unique experience. The content varies as there are multiple comedians presenting. I enjoyed the Asian guy with the deep voice the most since he had some creative/philosophical remarks and his jokes were the outliers. I enjoyed jokes about life and casual stuff like the CVS toilet paper joke.Everybody talked about racism and liberal sex habits, which just made me feel tired or sorry about the protagonist in the stories since I listen to these themes everywhere and it makes me wonder and worry about society. So I felt sad for the person talking instead of focusing on the joke. And I found myself psychoanalyzing the comedian and the audience according to their demographics instead when these jokes were said. I honestly suffered through some good part. But I laughed hard when they could extract the funny out of the ordinary and leave my heart and morals at ease.Price: $20 entrance, $22 for drinks, and tip.
Awesome comics. They were all very funny. Really good time. Drinks are very limited and overpriced, but would definitely go back again. Quality show.
Had a good time at this place. We didnt have tickets, but we were able to get in on the standby list by stopping by an hour or so before the show. Nice mix of comedians and the crowd was great. Would recommend.
Nice underground small comedy Club! A bunch of comedians, 70% of them nailed it and the others werent bad, just too crude for the soft audience this night (mostly married couples). 2 drinks minimum, 8 - 12 USD on average. Ticket was 10 USD on a january monday. Friendly service. We had fun and would recommend it!
We started out the night trying to get into Comedy Cellar, but they didnt have availability. As we were walking back, someone stopped us and asked us if we wanted to see a comedy show. We were skeptical, but went with it. We had a great time, was able to sit right up front, and got a big surprise when comedian/actor TJ Miller stepped onstage. Thank you for the laughs and memorable experience!
Came here for the free comedy show. There was a 2 drink minimum (the cheapest drink was $8) and the comedy was not great. Wouldnt recommend, especially if youre on vacation. There are many places that have much better stand up comedians.
If you are looking for the Greenwich village experience, and a classic NYC underground comedy club, then this is the place for you. Super friendly group working the door to make you feel welcome. $20 a head and a 2 drink minimum make this about $100 for a couple. Do yourself a favor and grab a slice of pizza at one of the many shops near by and snack while waiting in line to be seated. Be prepared for a very interactive show, as about 8 comedians roll through 10 minute sets. We had a couple guys bomb, but we also had a couple kill it which made the night.
This is where you were stuck going when you cannot get tickets to the Comedy CellarWant to listen to amateur acts in the pitch black dark in a 300 square-foot studio basement apartment?Tonight one of the acts actually acknowledged the water dripping on one of the tables from the air-conditioner mounted on the wall with the peeling paintIts a sad option. Notice the multiple reviewers including myself who are frustrated by the $15 non-alcoholic package where they bring you out one bottle of water and will purposely forget to bring you out the “included” nachos
Good lineup. But drinks in plastic cups.
Great comics, nice atmosphere, good crowd. This comedy club provides equal talent with no reservation issues, lower costs and ridiculous wait lines like surrounding comedy clubs. Come andnget your laugh on.
Great place to see both start-up comics and those who have made their mark. Very enjoyable time!
Great energy in a tiny space. But the staff is top notch.
Had a blast with all my friends! It was cool to get up close and personal with famous comedians. Favorite comedy club in NYC by far, great ticket deals!!
They MAKE you to pay for two or more stupid drinks. My friend and I paid $34 for 4 water bottles that we didnt need. The waitress was super mean. The jokes and roasting were not funny at all. The comedian from Indiana ran out of jokes so did the other young boy they brought to waste our time. Go to the Comedy Cellar or some other places that are good so your money is worth spending. In this club, ONLY 6 people showed up.
Stopped in spur of the moment- not a huge fan of the 2 drink/person minimum, but also not a big city person and this seems to be the norm here. Most acts were entertaining and funny, even with a diverse crowd. Would’ve been nice to have a set list to remember everyone’s names but overall had a great time.
Enjoyed the comedy.. Small place
Had wonderful time at the club. The comedy sketches were good and original. Beside the host there were 6 performances. Definitely worth the price. Got to buy two drinks though which isnt too bad. The place is small but I didnt mind it. Would comeback.
Went to a show last night and our group of 5 were the only people there (except for one very drunk man who came alone)! So awkward!
Terrible club. They tried to sell me a 30 dollar ticket. I managed to get the price down to 10 dollars. There was a 2 drink minimum . 19 dollars for 2 cokes.Comedy was below average at best. Avoid this place.
Excellent club. Highly recommend it
Avoid! This is a scam!! They pretend to have celebrity comedians but they don’t and they over charge you for drinks. Also, there are local guides being paid to put good reviews here which is all part of the scam. Those reviews are fake and it’s obvious.
It was a great time, great comics!
One-way door to the darkness. enter at your own risk
I enjoyed date night here! lots of fun for a good deal!
This place is scam. Line ups subject to change on the door once you start lining up. They make up fake celebrity appearances. Avoid!
I think it is overpriced. Less than a handful of comedians were funny on the night we went. In my opinion, the Comedy Cellar is better. Not that many people were in the audience that night. I went with a group of 5 people, and there were two other couples in the audience. I would say that their margaritas were damn delicious.
This is an NYC scam. The comedians are all right but the prices compete with the Campbell on Vanderbilt. Its $20 to get in, and once you pay you will be told it is a two drink minimum. While that doesnt too bad, a Coors Lite is $8 and a Gin&Tonic is $14. On top of that, there is no bar, everything is made in the back. You can’t see what they make it with. I would avoid this place.
Great line up. Good energy. The basement was pretty hot, but the day was too. $20 tickets + 2 drink minimum. Very small/limited seating. Worth the experience.
Dark, small and have no food there. Comedians was funny though.
I bought two tickets online and Ive been calling for a week to make the reservations and they never pick up the phone. Ive left messages and they dont call you back. Whats the point of having a phone number in the first place?
Great time! Tasty beers and loved the comedy! Cozy fun vibe.
Comedians varied in talent and the bar is a basement dump. At least it is not too expensive.
Jill Stassler! Need I say more?
Mediocre comedy venue, very touristy, seems people(tourists) don’t care where to go as long as its “comedy club” .The line up was poor . Worth 3 stars the most .
Incredible talent in a reasonable but intimate space, this show made it a night I will never forget.
Avoid! Super expensive. Pay attention its minimum 2 drinks per person (at 6$ for a soda), and they will try to get your gratuity twice, once added automatically, and one on the receipt. Also, they have 0 respect to your time, and will open doors 30 minutes late, when its minus 10 Celsius outside.Try to find the comedians you love somewhere else.
The comedy is good but the way the venue is set up is not good for most people in the audience. Theres no where you can sit for a good view. But the staff were super nice.
Great little place for comedy. We went for a string of stand up comdeians and were not disappointed. Some were definitely better than others, but a great experience overall. I think there may be a rule that you have to buy two drinks inside, so keep that in mind. Also check Groupon for deals on tickets :)
Hilarious and good time
Show was less than funny. The host was the best part. Drinks were watered down but its the city so what can you expect
Second time here. It was hilarious. Very small place but its worth what you pay for and the comedians are great.
Absolute waste of time and money. Terrible and disrespectful service. Outrageous prices and below average comedy. Both my friends and me quite literally wanted to swing on the manager because we were misled, condescended to, and ripped off.
Had a blast! Took the Mrs with me. The comedians were great! If you sit close to the stage be prepared to interact. not for the faint of heart.
Great comedians, very chill place.
Each experience is different with comedy clubs, depends on the crowd, the comedians and you! For me, I found 4.5/7 of the comics were hilarious and the host was great too! Its a plain, intimate space that fits about 20-30 people, but not so crowded that youre hot or stuffy. I got discounted 2 tix for $20 +2 drink min which was the perfect cost for the venue and the show (I would not have paid more). Overall, fun experience.
Fresh acts that are just learning their routine. Good, intimate environment but dont expect polished comedy routine
Had a good time despite being told the 1st two drinks were complimentary with the purchase of tickets. Host was not funny. Found only two comedians funny in a 5 person line up. But I will go back. Hopefully Greenwich Village Comedy Club will redeem itself.
GIVE IT A TRY**** First time in NYC, I was very sketchy of the location. We go down to the basement and have the best time. I almost gave it a 4 star just because I wish the comedians would have stayed out longer. I was crying (from laughing) when I left the building. We bought 2 tickets for $30. There was a 2 drink minimum. The drinks were rather high. I was so focused on the comedian that I only had 1 drink. GREAT TIME!
Comedians were great but quite a work-in-progress spot. Drop the prices for your early shows that don’t get attendance anyway. Cmon people.
All the comedians were really funny! Get the drinks but not the food.
2 drinks minimum is rude, $10 for a beer bottle is expensive. There were a few good comedians
We bought tickets on the street and entered an empty basement room, which gradually filled up with an audience of young people. Seven comedians from the States and Canada raised some laughs and the jokes were OK. It was mandatory to purchase two drinks whilst there and we left pretty soberly. The event for two of us was around eighty dollars.
Small, cozy, intimate. Great comics
Hreat Atmosphere and amazing comedians
This club is a scam! Bought tickets online for the comedy show and it wasnt even what was advertised. Tickets online were more expensive then if we had just bought at the door. 2 drink minimum per person on top of the door charge. Stay away from this club and go someplace else on the street for something funny.
I love this room. the wall behind the stage reminds me of silent hill. Its the best
Very close quarters. Dark but worth the $15/$20 price of admission. No real food menu except nachos. Comics are funny...again...worth the price of admission!
It is a basement, hole in the wall spot and I enjoyed every minute of it!
NYE comedy show was fun and a great deal with champagne toasts and great comics
Small intimate club worth checking out.
1st time was years ago & it was the BEST :)But tonight was my 2nd time ...it wasnt the bestThere was only 2 or 3 funny comedians, out of 10? I don’t know. Several of them werent laughableSo only 4 stars because of my 1st time with Maurica•google &/or YouTube, if you don’t know who it is; you won’t regret it•
I was lucky enough to perform there many times. I love the vibe. I love how intimate it is. Great night out.
Variable talent combined with staff that refused to kick out an obnoxious couple that interrupted every comedian made for an underwhelming performance. Im surprised that after a comedian simply left the stage because of how loud this couple was they were still allowed to stay and continue ruining the night for all.
Delicious pizza. Somewhat slow service.
What an waste of money and time. Acts where looking at jokes on their phones...including the Host. They wanted to seat us with half the table unable to see the stage because of the column in the way. Service was horrific and gratuity is included, so you can’t express your displeasure at the service financially. It was my first and last time at this terrible venue! Got to any other comedy club in the city instead of this one!
If I could give this place fewer stars I would. As far as I can see the only reason it exists is to catch tourists and the overspill from the hopeful walk-ups to sold out shows at the Comedy Cellar. The whole ordeal was like watching an emotional snuff movie - tacky, hacky over the hill nobodies offering sloppy and unfunny, purely bad comedy. Go to Carolines or the Comedy Cellar for masters of the art at a similar price - just plan ahead. My visit to Greenwich Comedy Cellar was a strong contender for one of the loneliest, most depressing experiences of my life. I didnt laugh once, and I tried. I felt I had to hide the fact I wasnt after a point. A tip to all the comics: martyring yourself for our entertainment and struggling to sell overpriced drinks with your art is not tragically romantic or existentially vindicating; its embarrassing. Go get a day job.As for prices, I can only further confirm what everyone else has stated; theyre ludicrous. I managed to sneak out before they demanded my two drink minimum order - the cheapest of which being a deal for two soft drinks/juices/mineral water, for the low low price of $15.From the bottom of my heart, I hope they turn this place into a Starbucks.
The Friday night show was super. 1145. Our host and all were funny. Wear a bikini cuz it is hot inside.Check Groupon savings.
Intimate setting with attentive wait staff! My girlfriend and I had an awesome time at the 8pm show.
I’m from Norway, Scandinavia, and if I’m bloody disgusted by prices on beer, people better listen. The comedy was okay. I wasnt bored. It did make me laugh at intervals. I feel for the second to last act though, as everyone was so busy with the disgrace that was the check, that they forgot to listen to his jokes. We paid God damn $9 for one 0.33 dl of beer, and the minimum order was two drinks (which they forgot to tell us about when they sold us our tickets). I was mortified, and all in all it left me with a bad taste in my mouth. If I’m coming back I’m bringing my own drinks.
Underrated comedy club. Ive been there 2-3 times and not been disappointed, great entertainment for half the price of the big name places.
Great for new comers
Nice night and very fun comedians! We enjoyed it very much :)
Loved it here. A great date night with constant laughs and the best selection of preshow dining options on macdougle st.
Really great place, great talent, but gets really hot and sweaty
We came here with friends after winning free tickets. Let me start off by saying it was hot as balls in there. They must have given away a lot of free tickets, because they jam packed the place. We ended up having people we didnt know sit with us. They drinks were horrible amd and expensive. The show was not even funny. Terrible!!!!
Funny and smart comedians...learned a lot from them about life. Loved it!!!
DRINKS TASTE DISGUSTING I DIDNT EVEN DRINK IT BECAUSE I COULDNT & STILL HAD TO PAY. ASKED IF THEY HAD FOOD THEY SAID YES &THEY ONLY HAD CHIPS. COMEDY was good. Paid about 60$ in drinks &CHIPS &was DISGUSTING.
Honestly the only decent thing was the cover charge. The jokes were not good, the drinks are expensive, and the room was not great. Would highly recommend other comedy spots on the same street.
Decent comedy club that hosts some good comedy shows.
The owner was very racist and disrespectful
They really need to get better chairs and food selections. Comics too!
There were at least 6 comedians during the show -which is cool, so you don’t get stuck listening to someone that isn’t that great for too long .Ok vibe, intimate setting. Nearly all the comedians were funny .I didn’t like that gratuity is already included on the bill though
We had reservations for the Comedy Cellar on the next night, but we were walking in the neighbourhood and sellers got my friend to buy 2 tickets for this (dump) place and gave her an amazing deal of 2 for $40 instead of $50, but the show was in an hour, so we went walking around (in the bitterly freezing damp cold february night) and came back on time, but NO ONE was there...We waited, then someone came and said that they had to clean the snow and ice off from the stairs, and to come back in 20 minutes!By now you can guess where this review is going, and CHANGE YOUR MIND about giving this place a shot....but I will continue. We come back and walk down to this disgusting basement dump (compared to the Comedy Cellar, even street alleys are warmer and cleaner than this!) only to find out that there is only one other couple in the club.I ask when the show will start and the (creepy)door man/seller/manager says in about 20 minutes!By now I knew that this was a BIG MISTAKE and I wasnt gonna sit on their dirty chairs, in their cold, damp, cruddy basement, all 4 of us, waiting for a possibility that in another 20 min. there could be more people and there might be an actual show going on!I asked the couple if they had a good feeling about all this, and decided to get our money back and go to the COMEDY CELLAR instead. And we did just that and had an amazing time at the COMEDY CELLAR.How this place is this up and running is a mystery. It will cost you as much money to go to either one, so the decision is ultimately yours.Do you wanna go to a CREEPY BASEMENT DUMP or to a (world) renowned comedy club?We never saw any acts at this place, because we were wise enough to figure that this place was a scam.Visited February 2015
Good show, but forced 74 bucks for drinks and chips for the four of us, even when we ordered only drinks
Terrible comedians, and pretty expensive for a poor venue space as well
